The Power Of Sobriety Thread (POST!) #3
Didn't know The Saints -- listening to Eternally Yours. Sounds kind of like the Stooges sometimes. Thanks Dee!
Something that's really getting me through the days these days -- listening to a really long Victorian novel in mp3. While walking to work (probably dangerous) and riding elevators, particularly away-taking. Bleak House now. If I pursue this, and mix in some printed text, the Victorians can take me through the rest of my life.

I have about 10,000 songs on my hard drive. Pretty much every Top 20 U.S. hit single from 1950-present. My favorite years are 1975-84, but I can always find something good in any year.
Am planning on visiting Fran at the hospital this afternoon. I'll get a first-hand look at how she's doing.
Have a great weekend, all!

I hope Fran's able to enjoy your visit, FBL.
Today is better than a day has opened up to be in a while. All the things on my list to do are at my own discretion, and my head is not circling its own carcass.
I hope everyone is ok. ((Gilmer))

I was whining in my mind about how worn out I was, and how I didn’t feel like making such a Labor-intensive meal—when suddenly it hit me! No wonder I’m tired: I got up at 2 this morning!
By the time I bought the lunch and dinner supplies, I was ready for bed!
Knowing that there was a reason behind it made things 100% better!
I don’t know if you guys realize—I mentioned it on other threads—but the greatly beloved dog in my avatar died last night.
My daughter was a mess, but I just had an occasional tear and kept putting it out of my mind, even though I was devastated.
Courage sent me a beautiful poem which really moved me and opened the floodgates:
From James Dickey’s “The Heaven of Animals”:
Here they are. The soft eyes open.
If they have lived in a wood
It is a wood.
If they have lived on plains
It is grass rolling
Under their feet forever..
It’s always a knee-jerk reaction to stuff my emotions IRL; but I’ve been bringing this poem to mind throughout the day and it chokes me up every time. I am encouraging myself to go ahead and live the grief till it fades on its own.

Had a very encouraging visit with Fran yesterday. She was sitting in her souped-up wheelchair. She was able to talk a bit and she was even smiling and laughing as we visited. There were 5 of us there and when the nurse came in, she said it sounded like we were having a party! We stayed for over an hour and it was so good to see much of the "old" Fran once again. She still has a long road of recovery ahead, but I have no doubts she'll make it.
Have a great Sunday, all!

Gil, you've probably seen this one before, but it's still my favorite:
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
Author unknown...
I have no doubt that the cat I rescued and grew up with is waiting there for me.
