More work on my side book project this weekend. Am nearing completion on the initial research, but still a little ways to go.

Have a great weekend, gang!

I’m glad you’re getting a lot done, FBL.

I started my new class last Monday, and there seemed to be so many assignments that it was confusing to figure out where to start.

And when I did start, it was a detailed reiteration of the very categories I hated most! So far I’ve made notes on 23 different categories, and I’m not even done!

I almost died when I realized what this class was going to demand of me. I understand how grammar works instinctively, but identifying categories of all the different noun types is nearly impossible for me.

I took a quick glance at the material and immediately set about procrastinating and crying, “Woe is me!” I even considered dropping the class (it’s an elective for me).

But finally yesterday I sat down and read the textbook. I was pleased to see that this author includes buzzwords to tip us off about which category is which.

And I decided last night to take the extra time to write everything relevant down in my notes in an easy-to-digest outline. Once I sat down and did it, I found that I reinforced my understanding by leaps and bounds.

So now it’s just after 9 am and I’m feeling good, and I’m well on my way to “conquering” this week’s assignment.

I’m cranked up now! I’ll work all morning till I burn out, then I’ll watch a quality movie (all I’d been doing so far is binge-watching both Netflix seasons of MST3K).

Moral of the story: the anticipation is always worse than actually taking that first baby step. As soon as I committed to act, I found that I was much more capable than I thought. Success breeds success!

(It’s the same with conquering temptations to drink).

I know I’m repeating myself: I feel like this is the only thing I ever say!

But I always lose sight of it because fear and worry overcome me.

The difference it makes when I just put my neck to take that first step never ceases to amaze me!

Hi everyone,

FBL - 99 months of sobriety is awesome!

JL - Happy bday to your middle son. For the teenager, maybe saying the serenity prayer will help you let go of worry and focus on what you can do to help guide him?

Gilmer - I can get caught in my head too. I'm glad you just kept moving!

My husband is hungover this morning and he reeks. The whole room reeks. The last several weekends he's seemed dazed the entire next day after his drinking. While he would deny it - and probably doesn't recognize it because he putters about and gets stuff done - I see it and ..... it's gross.

But alas it's not my problem. It's his. Nothing I can do about it. All I can control is my behavior, and there's plenty I need to address to stay on MY beam. Thanks for being a place I can unload.

I'm about to head out to the grocery store.

Hi everyone!
Not much going on here, Gilmer. Day 3 of no smoking, but it seems to be going well. I have a dinner tonight with some coworkers that I don't really love, but I have to show my face every now and again outside of work hours for my job. We have a busy week though so I'm going to see plenty of them. Kind of wishing the dinner was another time. I need a lot of 'me' time or I get grumpy. My boss hates it when I'm grumpy, but gives me h*ll for never coming out with them. He can't seem to figure out that it's one or the other haha

Spent most of the day reading - it's amazing to me how fast I blow through a book I really enjoy.
Haven't seen MST3K yet, I'll add it to the list right now though!

Glee, does your husband support your own progress in sobriety? No need to answer if that's too personal. I really respect the way you *just* *keep* *going*!

site, do you know the introvert bubble cartoon? Check it out: How to Understand an Introvert

Gilmer, I'm glad you're attacking your challenges with energy.

Hi All,

Congrats on the 99, FBL.

Was just another post Irma busy week of work from dawn to dusk with a few training and one morning jog on the beach. AZ and I agreed that we were heading to a really nice friendship - period, yesterday, so it's back to the dating thing again. Who knows, OH just might be the one? Well, there are 50 states, countless countries...etc.

There must be at least one other kinda like my ex out there? I say that because at Glee's suggestion I sent her this pretty mean spirited email that my oldest sent me so I might get her feedback. Ex and I had a very long talk and she was as sweet as ever, saying that oldest is just wrong in the way she has been treating me. It doesn't fix things with oldest, but, I feel much less this terrible father. Turned out that Glee's suggestion really helped...thanks, 19!

GG, my friend, real Carlos, from my AA home group, recently went back to college. He was asked to write this like 2000 word essay the first day in this class. Haha, he told us that all he could think about was 2000, until he finally realized it was one word at a time. I dig real Carlos.

Having lunch with OH tomorrow. Haha, we do know each other and have worked out together in the past and were planning a beach jog tomorrow, but, she had a facial chemical peel and must not exercise for a few more days. She said that she may scare me...lol. Hey, whatever she does works for her desired goal because she really looks young. When I asked how she looked so good when we met, she said...proudly, I might add, "I've had a lot of work done." Crazy - but true.

I must dash for now. Hope all are well at that DZ has checked in...I only read from the start of this 20 page thing for now.

Carlos

Just got back from serving hot dogs at a soccer game.

I was mentally wiped out from homework, and I almost died when I got the email reminder that I had to go set up and serve food at 5:00, plus schlep over and pick up Halal takeout sandwiches.

Quite a few Muslim families bring their kids to play. Last time all we had was pork hot dogs to offer—who knew they’d come to an event sponsored by a Christian church?

So last time I approached one lady and apologized for only having hot dogs. I asked her if there was a place in town that served Halal takeout. Sure enough, there’s a place that serves frozen yogurt in the front and makes all kinds of American, Italian, and Middle Eastern sandwiches in the back! All with Halal meat (even Halal turkey capicola, salami, and pepperoni for Italian hoagies!).

At first hardly anyone showed up at the game except for about six kids. About halfway through some non-Muslims saw the tray of untouched sandwiches and helped themselves.

Finally at the very end a large Pakistani family came. There was just enough left for everyone to get a piece of a sandwich.

It was about 90 degrees. I had to cut out—I’m really dead!

I talked to a guy in my church whose extremely frail elderly parents are trapped in Puerto Rico. A team from our church was supposed to charter a plane to go to and from the States, transporting the needy off the island.

There is no fuel, no power, and the roads are all washed out. Thousands of people are stuck in shelters, but they have no food. because there are no passable roads to get it there. The Navy has tried to send ships, but there’s no place to dock: the harbors are clogged with other ships that have sunk in the storm.

The US military is taking steps to drop food shipments by air.

My friend says that all hell might break loose in the next 48 hours. Thus far, many are housebound wit no communication, so many don’t know just how desperate the situation is all over the island.

The team from our church wasn’t able to charter the plane after all; to get to the US territory of Puerto Rico, it would have to fly over international waters, and it isn’t authorized for that.

So please offer up thoughts and prayers for the people in Puerto Rico (as well as everywhere else).

Haha courage! That bubble cartoon is great! I need to get a bunch of copies and just start handing them out. I am 100% the only introvert in the group of people I work with, and we all travel together which can make it very challenging at times.

Carlos, sounds like you're staying pretty busy with the dating game these days! That's one thing I still need to figure out when I'm not drinking. There's always something to work on!

Gilmer, that's so crazy to me that they wouldn't let your church's plane fly over international waters to help with a crisis like that. Like you said, there isn't anywhere to land, but what if there was and someone as silly as that was holding them back?! I really hope your church friend's parents are alright... I feel so bad for everyone down there. I was just there a few months ago and to think most of that is gone now... nuts.

Dinner last night was okay. It was a smaller group, which is much more comfortable to me, even if I don't really enjoy spending time with everyone there. The food was great and honestly it was nice to have a distraction for a few hours. I've had a lot on my mind lately! I have a few busy days at work starting today, and some traveling as well, but I'm kind of looking forward to it. I've been waking up early every morning to exercise a bit and while the first 5 minutes is awful I am finding I have a lot more energy throughout the day...

It's pretty funny that California is complaining about cold and rainy and Wisconsin is complaining about hot and humid.

I'm Washington and it's moderate and blue skies.
