My advice is to not engage at all.
Let the AV rage and rail - it will tire itself out like any toddler.

The AV has no arms or legs...its totally dependent on us to get what it wants - if we refuse..it's thwarted...

and each time it's denied we grow a little stronger and it grows a little weaker.

There are some great ideas on dealing with cravings here:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...-cravings.html

I particularly recommend urge surfing which is included in that link...observing the craving but not being a part of it.

It may sound all metaphysical, even airy fairy, but it really worked for me.

Day 1

I will not drink tonight. Even if GF is stressed. Even if it hot. Even if I
have to watch The Bachelorette to keep GF happy. I look forward to
the gym in the AM, even if I am tired, and being really honest and
direct with everyone at work tomorrow, and really enjoying my books
on tape rather than worrying that my dizziness is making my driving
unsafe.

So I look really forward to not drinking tonight.

My AV is a ***** and
it's going to stay in its hole.
No more days like today
If the AV is permanently put away.

Evenin' Jules!

Another dry day in the books! Congrats to all who made it through, and courage to all of us as we look to a new day!

Thanks for the support guys it means a lot. Well done to everyone and Bib!
Just a quick check in on Day 2 10am, going fine atm.
Yesterday a drinking buddy cut ties with me, really this is a blessing. This is a big chance for me to concentrate on my family life and not my social circles.
Kids are at school all day today so i'm free to relax. Might have a nap then watch a movie.

Bib 07-17-2017 11:19 PM

Morning all. Thanks for the tips Dee I've read that and will give it a go today. Yesterday I was very busy and this didn't help - today I have more time and so will acknowledge and surf my cravings when they come. (Someone asked about going back to work - for me personally i am finding work very hard alongside my number one priority of being sober! I'm too busy building resilience, eating well, walking etc for work, but then i need the money...)

I'm not going to drink alcohol today. I don't count the days but the opportunity to go to bed sober is my one goal and prize. Nobody is going to force me to drink and I am developing tools and mind sets so that I never have to make that choice myself.

I'm taking kids to school, then going to walk for an hour if my legs ok, if not going to chill at home. Going to read and write this morning, have some nice lunch and maybe sleep this afternoon. Cooking chicken curry for tea, lush!

Have a good one people

Good morning all

Got home from work at just before 1am, was asleep around 1:20am (according to my Fitbit), grabbed a cup of hot chocolate around 6am, dozed again, and now up drinking a cup of tea at 9:15am with plans to get all my packing done bar clothes for the next few days.

This time last week I would have got home, drunk wine, been restless for a few hours, not felt like doing anything and gone to work. Then repeated.

MY AB did whisper on the way home in the early hours suggesting I nip to the supermarket for a bottle of wine, after all I could drink it over 3 sessions (like that would ever happen!) but I banished that well away!

Hang on in there people, it is worth it x

Hahahahaha I'm glad your AV is as much of a bull-******* as mine!! Mine says stuff like that ('just drink today' is it's favourite -I have NEVER drunk one day and next day thought, 'that was nice I'll go back to being sober now!). Hahahaha the AV is a fool and more fool me for listening.

Well done startanew your name is deep. Every day - startanew

Morning Bib, finally I've started to do what my 'name' tells me to do. And it is such a great feeling. Yup, the AV is a total tart but - as you say - also a fool.

Somebody else said your AV doesn't have arms and legs so we control it. There are times it doesn't feel like it but it is true!

Have a great day

Day 2 has posed no major problems so far. Stress levels high, but that's been the same every day for a long time anyway. I was doing a pretty good job of engaging in various activities to keep stress in check but my free time has just become less and less.

Having drinks while either relaxing with a movie or not relaxing doing work/housework was keeping me sane. But I could feel my health decreasing as I got busier, and I was taking time out of sleep to have drinks and quiet time.

Felt pretty rubbish in general at times today but cleaning the shower and hosing myself every few minutes while doing that actually worked well to improve my mood.

No rest for the wicked, off to do some cooking.

Susiegirl 07-18-2017 02:31 AM

Day 2 today - had a good nights sleep so feeling pretty good. Will check in later X

SeanFox87 07-18-2017 03:25 AM

Day 13 for me, this is where it gets tough for me, I've normally caved around the 3 week Mark in previous attempts but not this time. I'm just sticking to my routine and I'm not going to let my guard down.

ClearPath64 07-18-2017 03:35 AM

Good morning all. Day 8 in the books. Super sore this morning as my 15 year old son put me through an evil leg workout last night. Trying to get this 53 year old body in shape for a 5K race in the fall. Never would have even considered it while I was drinking. This sobriety is going to do wonders for my health, and I'm going to show that son of mine that I've still got something in the tank when I beat him across that finish line! Have a great day everyone. Sobriety is wonderful!
