Sass, guess what I did yesterday?

I went back up to Baltimore and had a crabcake--this time at a different restaurant. You'll be relieved to know that my friend drove, so I managed to get up and back without crashing!

We went to a different restaurant than you and I went to because my friend said the crab cakes were a little better. Actually, I liked ours better: the crab seemed much fresher. Plus ours were a dollar cheaper and were bigger.

But either way, any crabcakes are better than a sharp stick in the eye!

I thought of our lunch throughout the meal.

That's for sure, Gilmer. I very much enjoyed our meet-up and lunch! My daughter now lives in Silver Spring. Is that any closer to you?

I worked in Silver Spring when I was in law school and right after. A neat area near Bethesda and, of course, D.C.

well, this is the second time I have started writing this.
Anyway----Just got back from taking my Stepdaughter and Son to the airport to fly back to Utah. Remember the times when you had gone through a stress full moment and you were going to reward yourself with a drink the minute things got back to normal? ? ? ? Well, it happened to me again for sure. I just remembered what it was like after the fact and like you guys said. Think it through. so, here I'm sober. YES ! Doing great.
Hi Budd ! Nice to hear from everyone else also.
Babs

That's great, Babs--and I'm glad the stepdaughter flew off on her broom!

I bet you handled her much better than in the past too Babs. I know I am able to deal with my father better. And so proud of you for recognising the changes in how you cope with stresses like that. I know it was a huge leap forward for me in my recovery.
At one time in my active drinking, I would see no other response to negative situations than to drink into oblivion. It was my succour, my understanding friend bolstering my self riteous pity rants. Learning not to turn to alcohol, made me have to become more aware of the fullness of my involvement with the initial issue. Through that personal growth, I can now decide whether a situation needs me to stand up and speak out, or whether it is easier all round for me just to nod and smile and walk away feeling holier than thou!!!!

Silver Spring is a lovely sounding name for a place!

Babs, great going! Over time it gets easier to say "NO" to those thoughts.

I'll be visiting daughter in August but won't have car. Parking in Silver Spring is apparently abominable. Will be taking shuttle from and to BWI (since I find Dulles too confusing and stressful and have never been to Reagan). Short visit - 2 nights but could perhaps add another day the following year.

How is your daughter doing, Sass? I hope you have a nice visit with her, August will be here before we know it.

Isn't it great, Babs, when we realize we don't need that crutch to cope. And before you know it you don't even give it a second thought. I'm so thankful that I'm not drinking during this time. I think it's allowing me to heal more quickly by forcing me to feel the emotions and to face them head on. Great job!

If you come to Silver Spring next year, Sass, I can get to you completely by public transportation; right now the drive to the nearest Metro station is an easy 20 minutes. By next year they will hopefully have finished a new Metro station that comes within two miles of my house!

hi SASS ! ! ! ! This Marcher is doing great ! ! Going to mow the back yard this afternoon and looking forward to a little exercise. I went to AA yesterday and heard some things that make a person stop and think. We are so lucky to have each other. I appreciate this thread sooo much. and I have learned a lot. I made the comment that we are all in this together and several came up to me afterwards and thanked me. Isn't it funny how some times a person can say just the right thing and it clicks ? It sure made my day.
