My buddy that I went to help the other day called me last night. Drunk, slurring and rambling. I know he meant well but... Before yesterday I hadn't talked to him for about 7 months. I think I might end up having to splain things to him. I had to wait till he wasn't toasted.

PJ, I don't think I saw it on this thread, but I did see somewhere that you got the art volunteer position you were hoping for.

Congratulations!

Del, SG, and Cour, I hope things are good for you today.

I'm doing 100x better now than I was this morning.

I struggled and struggled and finally I managed to find a chart in my notes that my mind could grab onto. From there, I found myself able to concentrate on some other things--and now I'm doing what I'd planned to do yesterday, listening to my professor's lecture for this week.

I'm halfway through now.

Now my mood is completely normal. I was really whipping myself into a frenzy earlier!

PJ, thanks for the story of the anti-barbaric-tsar -- I suppose barbarism has an etymological connection to beard, yes?

Thanks for the debilarette typos too -- I spent a couple of minutes wondering where in Russia there's something that has an acronym "sae" where people can be catapulted. There are worse ways to spend minutes.

Gilmer, I feel your pain. Especially the car accident -- that would screw up my aches, pains, and head for days! But also just the hustling of errand-running & other people when what you really want to do is shut yourself in a room and concentrate your mind on Greek. If you're keeping your temper, you're doing way better than I would in your position.

PJ, my first coffee of the day is extra large with lots of cream and sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon

And I missed tom's post and the news about PJ's gig.

Congratulations PJ -- what will you be doing?

tom, just wondering... you hadn't talked to him in 7 months. Then you get together & you're you, straight, not partaking, you-wonderful-you, friend in need etc. Then all of a sudden he's wasted and reaching out again. Maybe he's unconsciously looking for more help than just truck-fixing? (not to minimize truck-fixing)

Or, maybe he just plain misses you.

allo! This place is an interactive 24/7 space. It is a dedicated huge projection screen with multi-m images (3d) and sound..that can be viewed by the public through a huge window. It has lots of plays of light and sound because of where it is centred. I am not sure yet exactly what I do- but it does involve setting up stuff- exhibits- in 2 or 3 places, including normal pictures. A great way to learn. Especially from young people who perhaps are not tainted by the 'old freak' brush.

Beards..hmmm. The rage here- young blokes with perfectly clipped bushranger beards- wearing expensive 'bushie' clothes and very short hair. Apparently beards equates to manliness. I have had one now for 37 years..so do not care. I am a life support system for my beard.,
Alexander the G. prohibited his men on growing beards because the enemy could yank on them in close body fighting.
In middle English (circa 1200 ad) it comes from the word 'berd' which is attributed to an old expression for 'oppose openly' or to confront. Manly indeed.

I'm one step closer to exercise: a yoga outfit and a purple mat arrived in today's mail.

What? You wouldn't want me to hurt my neck on the bare floor, would you?

I did do something physical today: I stripped two beds, plus I pulled weeds.

Next I have to go to the supermarket for a couple items--then I'll come back and make the beds.

After that, I plan to watch an hour-long Netflix show and get some needlework done. Then I plan to do the neck and shoulders yoga DVD my daughter bought me two Christmases ago.

They say yoga is relaxing. I'll try it--Lord knows I need to do something!

A purple mat, Gilly?? The Emperor will have you executed for this. VIE! VIE!
I bought some sunflower seeds in a packet from 'the reject shop'. Not for a moment believing they would grow. Put them in a pot. They started to grow. Lots. Checked the packet- up to 3-4m. So now will plant them in the 10 inch 2 metre strip of earth between my unit and the 12 inch footpath. Kind of my tribute to Van-G.

I'm glad your accident just was a fender bender, Gilmer, and not something more serious. I have had three accidents, and in each, my car was standing still at a light and yet I got plowed into.

Congrats PJ!

Feeling a little better today. A combination of extreme fatigue, horrendous news, dark skies here and tons to do just sort of overwhelmed me a bit. Getting some things done and a better night's sleep have helped, as well as cranking some tunes.

We co host a big Memorial Day BBQ and picnic with my in laws whom live next door to us. This started as an all day drinkfest for me, starting well before noon and often still drinking around the bonfire as the sun came up. My BIL gave up drinking 10 years ago, and we all started having kids which makes things more sedate. I used to look forward to inviting folks over to drink. I would get 7-8 cases of beer, and plenty of wine and booze. This year, I bought just two cases. The whole weekend is a lot of work getting everything ready, and I commented to my wife that I am at the point that I really don't care if this event slipped into history. However, after 18 years, people would probably just automatically show up anyway.

Just bought some beautiful Hibiscus plants and Mandevilla plants at Produce Junction that need to be planted. And another trip to the store. Just wanted to say hi to everyone!

Enjoy the rest of the day!

SG, I know what you mean when you say you wish a "great family tradition" would just fade away!

Congratulations on the sunflowers, PJ. What else do they sell at the "Reject Shop?"

Got dressed and popped in the DVD.

During the introduction the doctor said, "If you have herniated discs in your neck, see your spine doctor before pursuing this program!"

Nothing on the video seems to be related to my original physical therapy, so I think I'm just going to wear the outfit and resume my regular old neck exercises.

I don't know what I'm supposed to do with the mat!

I guess I'll take it down to the Salvation Army.
