peacefulintent, I like the image that I'm giving myself a special gift every time I don't pic.

SandyO and everyone else who mentioned thinking about the day after, yes I do feel 100 times better today for not drinking.

And Outonthetiles, you hit it on the head: "The extra reinforcement from people at SR, even if we haven't met, makes all the difference for me."

Take for example, when I did drink a week ago last Sunday.

I had eight drinks of my favorite hard liquor, and--happy that I had left five in the bottle (twisted, right?)--I went to bed. Came down the next day, bottle was in the recycle bin. It was empty. Clearly, blackout Args decided they wanted more to drink and came down to finish the bottle. My heart sunk.

But that became my new Day 1.

This week was different because I did post on SR. The more time I spend here— posting and reading—the more I hesitate to give into AV. You guys are all starting to gather in my head now (don't worry, given the brain cells I've likely killed off, there's plenty of room), so I can hear you pipe up as the thoughts start to come about drinking.

And that extra little moment of pause gives me enough time to reconsider, or to post. Even if anyone can't answer right away, just by posting I am putting myself one more step accountable.

I'm a lucky Marcher, I am.

Welcome RyGuy83. You've joined a great group.

CaseyW, haven't officially welcomed you back (so...drum roll please....welcome back!). We missed you and it's great to see you posting again (you seem even nuttier with your avatar upside down now...)

jacktryingagain, a week is a great hallmark. Congratulations.

I know how loud AV can be, lookinforward. Keep posting and reading.

And sunshine72, I'm so glad you found a way to do lunch instead of drinks. It sounds like you and this woman shared and supported each other. If the subject of drinks comes up I'm confident you'll find the right words.

Ciao for now.

I'm glad your lunch went well sunshine72 and it's cool that drinking didn't even come up.

It's been 18 days for me and I'm getting pretty regular headaches which I rarely did before. I hope this is a passing phase. Fought off some cravings earlier, seems so easy to slip and stop for a bottle on the way home from work. I'm trying to hold myself accountable and stay strong. Playing the scenario through in my head does help to make the right choices.

I hope everybody had a great day!

Hey All, back from Spain and jug remained plugged, lads started of with some good natured arm twisting but that stopped after day 3 and they just accepted it after that, my putting in some quick lap times while they were struggling with hangovers was all the valediction needed, lol, just got back so will catch up on posts tomorrow.

Hello everyone! Nice to see everyone doing well and fighting off the cravings. It's amazing how all of our hard work can be shattered in a moment of weakness soooo quickly. I have to remind myself that I don't drink.
Great work Sunshine with the lunch. I found that I only need to tell people once. In my past attempts I've made up an excuse, but this time I'm just saying that I'm not drinking. Followed by a few "No, thank you's" if still persistent.
I don't have to explain myself and anyone who knows me well should be more than aware of why it's a good idea. I understand it's a good excuse for them to drink a lot but I do not want to be drunk ever again!! This is the biggest motivation for me this time and the more I read about what is happening to us, the easier it is to believe that sobriety is the only way. My husband has finally caught on as my books are arriving in the post and he can see how serious I am. Days are adding up pretty slowly it seems. However, it's by far better than the drinking days when days disappeared and it was suddenly Monday again!
Feeling good today although my new job is quite physical and I'm going home with sore legs and sore back!
Back to work. Enjoy your day all 😊

17 days here. I'm getting more and more anxious about starting my new job on monday. I'm tired all the damn time and bored.
Wedding planning has me stressed and house hunting even more stressed. And yet all I want is to down a bottle of wine and take the edge off.

I've been battling myself with the idea of a cheat day. Maybe one cheat day a month so that it's not as desirable because it's 100% off limits. But I know it's a terrible idea.

It is a terrible idea because it predisposes that you have a measure of control to only stick to one day....None of us have that control - if we did none of us would be here.

Sounds like you need a little more balance maybe?

goofing off every so often is not bad if it helps you deal with the other stresses of your life?

Definitely a terrible idea Mainecoonmama, I've tried having a 'one off' every once in a while, within a month or so I was always back to drinking and every time I started again it got worse and worse. I didn't realise it at the time, but stopping and starting does so much damage. I agree with Dee, find something else that feels like an indulgence or treat. What else do you enjoy?

Day 10 sober and accountable.

Just over stressed at work. No time to drink which is good. Still trying to get some exercise in. That's helps. I had a cookie and ice cream the other night yummy.

Mainecoonmama that idea does sound terrible.
It's the AV trying to rationalize a break to drink. Unfortunately normalies do not need to plan one day a month to drink. I agree with Immri. In my own experience it will start a snowball into an avalanche. A few drinks today, more tomorrow and ect.. the cravings get worse. If you drink then they keep coming back and stronger. Like kindling.

Happy hump day all!

50 days sober today 3rd or 300th attempt.

Hi all I have been in recovery before but this time I went to rehab for proper help as I was addicted to prescription pills and alcohol. I am 50 days sober today and struggling with my weight cause I had bulimia in the past and put on 7 kg in rehab. Now I quit smoking, drinking and pills I can't help but eat and it's really getting to me.

Hi all,

Just checking in. Day 16 today. I feel more or less OK. The usual stresses of life but nothing that I can't handle. AV is relatively quiet. Crops up now and then but it's been easy to fight off. I suppose i'm neither excited nor depressed. I'm just....blah!

I've been going to AA meetings, which has been so far so good. I just need to hold on to my sobriety. All the best, SR family! Till later.

Good morning everyone! So many good posts. I tried to come up with individual answers to everyone, but my DH keeps interrupting me!

Jack tryingagain and LazyChemist, congrats on your milestones. I hope you made it through your cravings LookingForward. Just ask yourself, "what would Jeremiah Johnson do?" I crack myself up.

Sunshine72, glad you had a good lunch. It's great to have someone to talk to about kids.

Argi--I appreciate your honest telling of your relapse. I'm sure many of us can relate. Sounds like you really learned from it.

JCNY -- play it through! Drinking will not help and you'll feel the same crappy way you did before you quit.

Hello to all the Marchers-- have a great sober day-- 26 for me.

Quick check-in to start day 6 as I've got to leave the house early this morning.

Welcome to kahlia01!

Congrats to everyone else who is sober right now. Remember a drink is not the answer to any of our life's problems. Our addiction is a symptom, not the solution.

25 days back on the sober bus. So... after nearly 3 weeks of sick ick I returned to Jazzercise today (aerobics). I barely made it through but I did it! It's ironic that almost to the day I decided to quit entertaining the idea of drinking I got sick. Not Detox sick but like the Flu sick. So I haven't even really had a chance to feel excited to be back on this journey. But I'm getting there now.

Mainecoonmama that is a slippery slope you are about to head down. I had a year and a half sober and my AV told me I could handle just one day...a month later I was right back where I had started. Actually worse off. Please reconsider.
Thank you everyone for the support yesterday...Kept myself busy and doing good. Stay strong and keep on keepin on.
