Hi all,
Trying to shake off some disappointment in my son's behavior of late. His lack of progress was evident on the west coast, my mom even mentioned it. And finding out about a recent turn of events has me reeling a bit. I get so exasperated with him it's a wonder my head doesn't blow off! Sucks the life out of me at times but I ain't gonna drink.
It's a lovely warm evening with a nice breeze. The birdsong is constant and speaks to me. On my immediate agenda is prepping the grill for an alfresco surf-n- turf meal of steak, shrimp and a nice batch of fried oysters. I wish I could gather y'all here on my patio and share.
Wishing each of you the best week.

That sounds good, Mark. How do you fry your oysters up?
Sorry about your son. Must be tough to see them at that age wasting time. But I guess we all learn our own way. Some things school can't teach. Frustrating!
Enjoy your evenings all...

Frustrating for sure. Found out last night he'd lost his steady job so now l'm just waiting for the call that he's broke.....again. Of course I had to be guarantor for his rent so in the end I'm responsible for that. Lot and lots of back story to it all, so a restless agitated night it was. Should be better tonight as I'm so tired.
The oysters were so good. I'm the only one that'll eat them in this house. I use a packaged fish fry product from Zatarain's (not sure if that's national or regional) to coat them and then fry them in 375 degree peanut oil using a cast iron pot on the side burner of my grill. I prefer the oysters approximately 'bite size' so if they're big I use kitchen scissors to size them. This process really grosses my youngest therefore adding to my enjoyment. I've yet to keep my oil temp from dropping more than I'd like after adding a batch. I guess I need to fry fewer at a time. Not something I do that often so I haven't honed my skills.
So with a satisfied and full tummy I've gotten my mind in a better place and look forward to drifting off here pretty soon.

I am very sorry to hear about your son, Mark.
As parents we worry a great deal about our children and it is so easy to 'project' current behavior into concerns for consequential and future behavior (the old "if he is doing this now, what will happen when" kind of thinking - I am so very guilty of that and have such a hard time staying in the moment and with the current challenge only.)
Some things are best left to our children (young adults) to figure out themselves, hard as it may be.
Sending love your way.
