Hi guys,

hi Dee

Hugs right back Sass, how are you doing now that you have learned the word 'No'? Or are you still taking on too much at the OFH ??

Babs, glad you got through the craving, as Sass says, Urge Surfing is a great way of dealing. I know you have seen me write it before on the Undies thread, but those AV moments in the approach to the first year can be just awful. I can't remember who wrote it (Stargazer I think) about all the AV's at AV school learning how best to get at us! I thought that was so funny, and such a wonderful visual... I could imagine their tutor telling them 'look they get so much stronger after a year, you have to throw everything you've got at them now. Babs AV? Your human has a year approaching, what have you done lately to try and catch her out? What do you mean you snuck up on her doing the laundry? Ok I guess it might have worked, but you must try harder or its detention again!'

Keep strong Babs. You have more people cheering you from the sidelines than your AV has. You can and will do this girlfriend. Xx

Yes, Toots, the temptation to take on too much is still there but I am resisting mightily!

I dragged my winter depressed self out of the hole, at least partly, and have started cleaning up the Augean Stables that is my apartment. Starting to feel halfway human again at last.

hi guys ! We went to a double retirement party last night and these two girls are ones that I hang around with in the summer. anyway it was held in a bar and of course everyone was drinking and I said in the undies thread I usually look and see what everyone is drinking but, last night I was having such a good time visiting that I didn't even notice. One of the guys was standing next to me and his wife and bought drinks for us in the circle and I just said I would have a coke and no one blinked a eye and just kept on talking. Normally that would make me tense but, again it didn't bother me. I see more and more how things are actually getting easier. I can't tell you guys how much fun I actually had. There was one guy who looked down to see what I was drinking but, that was just fine. I was actually very proud of myself.
anywhoooo====Have a great day Marchers.
hugs
Babs

Yes! Isn't it great when we get to this point, Babs?? And you begin to notice that most people, unless they themselves have an issue, could care less what you're drinking (or not drinking I should say). It becomes easier and easier to the point that it just is, suddenly you realize that you're a non-drinker. I'm glad you had such a good time!

That's gray, Babs. I'm so glad that the evening ended up as a joy and not a struggle!

I actually meant to say, "That's great," not "that's gray!"

Babs, that's terrific! Until we experience that ourselves it can be hard to imagine. It's a wonderful marker of how far you have come

I think it is, Babs - I still occasionally wish I could have a drink but know deep down that I not only can't but I don't want to ever go back there again. For me it has been a gradual process but most definitely worth it. No more really awful cravings.

Yeah, every once in awhile when I'm really frazzled and emotionally spent, the thought, "I could really go for a stiff drink!" pops into my head--but it doesn't stay. Now after three+ years, it's not a serious temptation that genuinely influences me.

It carries no weight in my real world. The momentary thought of drinking is a silly thought from Fantasyland, just like "That's it! I'm going to Hawaii!" or "Wouldn't it be great to win the lottery?"

For me, those exclamations are just one of my less mature ways of blowing off steam--I never meditate on them. They're out of my head as soon as they pop in! I know they're ridiculous thoughts!

Great way of putting it Gilmer!

For me, I occasionally wish I were someone who could have a drink, but I'm not & that's all there is to it. I once told hubby that I drank my entire life allowance too quickly so now I have to just watch others sip at theirs!

Yes, Toots - well put. I feel a strong sense of acceptance now with an occasional wish it could be different. No more thoughts about maybe being able to drink normally. That illusion has been shattered!

yes, no kidding you guys. I gulped enough while everyone sipped.
But, now being around some of my friends I see that they haven't noticed
that there is a difference. I won't begin to say something that is for them to decide. Have a great day Marchers.
