Thanks, Dee.

Congrats, FBL!

Welcome, Kris :-). I had cataract surgery around 8 years ago. Paid a bundle for fancy lenses. It turned out well but a close friend had the same doc and regular lenses and had just about the same results.

Manz, I hope we'll see more of you. I suspect most if not all of us have difficulties valuing ourselves. I feel very fortunate to have had a wonderful therapist for 20 years who helped me learn to value myself. For me, coming here daily is my touchstone and I am so grateful for the many terrific human beings I have met here. One of the very special things about the Overs for me is that we deal with life in general and dealing with our addictions Is a normal part of that.

Thanks, SG - I do occasionally suspect that perhaps I am just talking to myself and then I read a lovely comment like yours :-)

Hi PJ!

IP, love the avatar 😃

Mags, Parkin sounds yummy. Yes, my AV tries but I don't listen. It's like the ancient thing about the Sirens (was that Homer?). For me it works better not to listen.

Hi Toots dear friend, I completely agree about rewarding ourselves. Some of us as children were told repeatedly not to be selfish and then took it to extremes.

Hi Andy - longer days, yea.

Hi GHD and RZ :-)

Gilmer - better fat than drunk in my book :-)

Hi Wolfie!

Itchy, sounds like a wonderful honor for your FIL. Good luck with the doc.

Hi Glee, Carlos and anyone else I haven't named!

I was let out from work early.....Good Behaviour
So no panic getting to hospital.

See you later overs.

Itchy, I am glad your FIL had the send off that he deserved and that you had envisioned. It is the very least that we can do for folks who had dedicated their lives to our country and the freedoms that we currently enjoy.

Good luck at the hospital Mags!

Being at twenty months, I feel pretty comfortable being around alcohol and people whom drink it. Yesterday, I was the designated beer and wine shopper for Christmas gifts for alcohol loving relatives. I generally have no issue running in and grabbing something needed for a special occasion, or grabbing a random six pack of NA beer every so often. Yesterday, however, I had to actually had to spend time thinking about things.

Person A loves Chardonnay, and I used to drink Brand X, so will they like this bottle? Person B only drinks microbrew beers, and I used to drink other beers from this brewery. On and on. While I had no urge at all to drink, the alcoholic mindset that used to dominate my thinking popped up in my mind like it never went away. I clearly remember thinking how I used to think shopping for alcohol and it was a bit unsettling. I am sure my AV was trying to tell me " You used to get pounded drinking this, wouldn't it be fun to join in and do that once again?" Hell no, it wouldn't be at all.

I spent most of last evening on SR reading Newcomers and especially stories of folks whom relapsed after significant sober time. No way in the world do I want to go down that path and throw away the amazing progress that I am making. It was unsettling to me finding my old way of thinking reappear.

I feel back to being solid in my thinking and sobriety today. I realize it was probably foolish for me to think that holiday booze shopping would not bring back memories from the past decades.

My takeaway is to be ever vigilant. Complacency can only lead to trouble.

Have a great day all!

Thanks Stargazer for those thoughts.
Mags---glad the hospital was OK!
Itchy I'm glad that your FIL's funeral was an honourable experience.
My grandfather was a Knight of Columbus for decades and they were represented at his funeral in full finery.
Manz, it wasn't you, but now I do remember you from the Undies, I remember you talking about your Weeman and going off to school! It's so great to see you here at the other end and doing well, congratulations! And of course you deserve everything, you worked for it, you earned it. You must give others credit, they wouldn't give someone a job who they didn't feel confident could do it.
FBL congrats on the milestone!
And Treerat on 190 weeks.

Wishing all of you a lovely day!

Stargazer, I can handle having beer in the house over the holidays but if my drug of choice (Brandy) was in house I might squirm a little. Off limits on that one!

Just had a great session with my physical therapist. He's very uplifting. But he said I can only run from 12-20 minutes!
