Just got back from Minnesota. The weather cooperated for my drives to and fro. Had a great X-mas with the family. Went to pick up my Mom on Saturday and she said that one of the staff members at the home was giving a little concert with his saxophone. My Dad used to play sax, so Mom wanted to go listen. The young man did a great job with some classic X-mas tunes and I even got to dance with Mom...some great new memories made there. One of Mom's most prized possessions is a Raggedy Ann doll and she told me several months ago that she'd like a Raggedy Andy to go with it. So, that was my gift to her this year and she said it was the best present she ever got! I also got some nice gifts this year, but as I get older, I have more fun giving than receiving. We also had our annual family cribbage tournament. Me and my nephew were the big winners this year. I ate too much, as usual, but it was well worth it.

Hope all the overs also had a Merry Christmas!

FBL, your mom is one very lucky lady to have you in her life!

Manz, I so get it. My issues with drinking tend to pop up when my ptsd is triggered. But, drinking just makes it worse so I keep on reminding myself. Coming here helps me stay on track. Had a brief flare this holiday but made it through without a drop of the bad stuff. You all help so much!

Andy, I've never heard the term "clustermess" before though I expect you used that as a euphemism for the other wonderfully descriptive term that also starts with "cluster".

I was sad to read about George Michael's death. I very much enjoyed his singing! So young, too. I had congestive heart failure around his age but was lucky enough to survive and get better.

Happy Monday to all!

Just a quick note that I read and loved the posts and the endurance so many are showing this year.

FBL,
Good job! Cribbage and music trivia champeen!

Manz,
Good job, like the previous years you can get through this back to your life.

Wolf,
I still have no idea what boxing day is, how it started (and neither do the experts) or why it is wished as a happy public holiday?
For my fellow cornfused non brit, common or not wealth, and US friends here is the best they can do to explain it?? AP EXPLAINS: What is Boxing Day and how did it get its name? | Fox News

Sassy,
Hot here, the A/C is on all day, and the heater at night set to 64 degrees does not kick on at all! The bugs are all having lots of hatchlings that also reproduce to bite the heck out of us come late spring. I liked Wham and George Michael's solo work as well.

Mags,
Yes it is a shame that he died so young. I'd like to hear the pathologist's report on it. Gay or not no one dies of AIDs today that stays on the antivirals and other meds we now have.

Wolf!
Hey bud! Here is an article you might like explaining the must binge shows there to be watched:
https://www.cnet.com/news/best-tv-sh...17807471581031

Toots,
Me too normally especially the cold callers that are live, and say thank you instead of pushing on thinking I will be intimidated. They get both barrels. I also take the time to ask for a supervisor when I get superior customer service. Supervisors need love too as they usually only field complaints. I used to love getting the one or two a year compliments on my people and you can bet I recognized them. I would buy these cheap: https://www.branders.com/product/6-p...tballs-130465/
Those cheap tiny air filled footballs and spray paint them gold. Then with a black Sharpie write "Game Ball" on it, along with the person's name and the date on it for their unit game saving service. They really took them to heart.

It is easier to be nice, and my self is happier when I am.

HI FG!

Gil,
Still running.

Me too RZ! I even took to using arse instead of ass. Royal arse sounds so much more formally appointed!

Andy et al,
In the military we used our phonetics to say what wee needed and without offending any civilians in hearing. A cluster is a Charlie Foxtrot, I got in the habit of saying phonetics even when angry or goofed and hit my finger instead of the nail.

Sierra Hotel India Tango!!

That wasn't just my generation as SNAFU and ROAD were already in use with about a hundred more. If some one didn't like it, Tango Sierra!

We had the same from my BIL and his wife yesterday. Their drama took precedence and they forgot about their end of cooking Christmas dinner and my wife I found over there helping her clean her house and no apology or concern for Christmas.

On the way home she offered for us to get Subway so she did not have to cook after I suggested we see if any restaurant was open so we could get our turkey dinner. I was angry but drinking never entered my mind. Nor acting out.

So I left their house and I brought part of the problem home with me.

Kris,
Hi!

I will be so glad in a few months when I am totally recovered in eyes and spine. No pain meds other than Naproxin and a 5 mg Flexeril. daily. No alcohol. Despite the first empty Christmas, with no Christmas dinner in my life.

We ended up finding a Chinese place open and we ate Chinese Christmas dinner.

Manz - Yikes, sounds like a rough situation at your parents' house.

Andy - Not your monkeys, not your circus. Good job not letting toxic, dysfunctional behaviors influence your decisions.

Saskia - Glad you found peace throughout the holidays.

Fbl - Sounds like a lovely trip to see your mom.

Toots - I like what you said about having choices on how to react to people. So true. If I realized that when I was younger, I could have avoided me years (upon years) of heartache and confusion and self-blame over my stepmother's behavior. Like you said regarding your father, though, I can now see her behavior for what it is. I'm grateful for that. It's given me the freedom to hold myself in much higher regard.

Today I cleaned and organized my kids' rooms and closets. Out with the old, in with the new. Afterwards I treated myself to a quasi spa trwatment, and moisturized from head to toe with as many potions as I could find!!

I hope everyone has a nice day!!

Getting an early start to my shortened work week. Just working mornings the next few days.

We're back to normal temps after a high of 48F yesterday! I wouldn't mind more days like that during winter.

Have a Terrific and/or Tolerable Tuesday, overs!

Morning overs

Itch, I'll be interested to read the coroners report too. Hopefully not because of morbidness. I think it's more to understand.Sorry you didn't get a turkey dinne! Chinese Christmas dinner sounds good though!

Off to my inlaws later today. My mil invites a few of the grown ups every Christmas and she has a buffet. I don't know why but I always feel like we're in a doctors surgery, sat waiting for our turn. I must start improving my visiting outlook!

Hope it's a good day for everyone.

Good morning, Overs!

I hope that those of you who had far less than ideal family holidays have a better one next year.

Coming here I find I'm expanding my vocabulary for polite company
Charlie Foxtrot it is.
