Am joining you on this sober weekend purplirks. What a merry band we will make.

Fatigued
Anxious
Hopeful
Depressed
Body hurts
Brain hurts
Scared
Determined
And have I missed anything?

Might have to sit down with Emzeh and have a Ploughman's Lunch

Good to see you purple.

Thanks Kiki, much appreciated

Maybe to be more open, which I am trying to do, my Mum is an alcoholic awaiting a liver transplant because of cirrhosis...she doesn't expect to take the liver if one does come up

Do you mean that your Mum will refuse the transplant Em, or that her body will "reject" it?

Gastro doctors are really good at it now and I'd bet that most, if not all recipients would feel the same. I know I would. What if it fails? That sort of thing.

A friend of mine has never looked back since she received a liver transplant over two years ago. I wish the same for your Mum.

I don't think she will relapse Em, she has too much to lose and I reckon she'd know that. Focus on your own wellbeing.

Just take it slow and all of the funeral arrangements will fall into place. Organising a funeral sober is very achievable. Organising a funeral drunk is impossible.

You can do do it Em.

She doesnt want to accept the liver, its a long chance that she will get one any time soon anyway as you're kind of bumped down the list if its self inflicted unfortunately. My elder brother had a liver transplant at 16 years old (34 now) for cirrhosis, nothing related to my Mums habit with alcohol, but I think she has a non deserving attitude towards it now. I guess thats a bit of a motivating factor for me as well

Hope i didn't put a downer on the thread for anyone!

Two things I have noticed being sober for such an amount of time...my skin is much more 'plush' if that's the right word to use - it used to be flakey and oily at the same time, how is that even a thing. And I have very very long hair and it feels AMAZING now

No downer Em.

We have Senator here (he used to be a radio talk show host) who had a transplant a few years back and he swore he would never to drink again. Since being elected as Senator he has picked up again. Gotta have a scotch with the boys, hey?

It made me angry, and thought about the donor's family and how incensed they would be. Wonder how it will pan out?

George Best the soccer player did the same, and it killed him. Good grief, all for the price of a drink.

Yeah I have a massive respect for my mum for saying she will pass the opportunity on to someone else, shes always very open about it. But our opportunity is to not get to the point where we have to make that decision!
