“To me, there are three things we all should do every day. We should do this every day of our lives. Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is, you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy. But think about it. If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that’s a full day. That’s a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you’re going to have something special.” - Jim Valvano

Oh, ChucktownMC! That is awesome! I love this quote. I definitely had a heck of a day, and hoping for another tomorrow.

A big wahoo to everyone here, keep making the choice to stay sober! 💪❤

Hey y'all closing out Day 5 for me. I'm away at the moment but made a promise that each day of my holiday I will check in here with you-gotta see how the gang is doing-I look forward to reading the posts-good or bad-we're not alone.

ChickenLady-having a good cry is healing. I think it's a sign of a functioning emotional system. When I'm sad I'll cry, when I'm sadder than sad I disassociate and that's when things are dangerous. But enough about me-you have achieved something pretty huge-things got the better of you and you got right back in the game! That shows grit, strength and resilience. You should applaud yourself-we should all applaud you!!

Welcome to the newbs-stick around!

Night all

Day 5

Hello everyone! I'm ending day 5 and going to bed sober! It is a wonderful thing. I was part of the September group but messed up last week and drank. I wanted to get myself in the correct months group.

Feeling very bad about the situation I have put myself and my daughter in by drinking. I am going to try to be more active on here this time around and less active on facebook. I'm going to see a specialist this week for post partum depression I really hope she can help pull me out of this for both me and my daughter. I'm very close to losing her and my marriage, so drinking is not even an option anymore. I'm 100% sure one more drink would mean everything I love being taken from me, I'm lucky that it hasn't already.

I look forward to reading through all the posts and getting to know everyone as we pull ourselves out of this vicious cycle.

I love books. And yet I so often end up watching TV or playing Candy Crush or something stupid instead. I'm about to finish Songs of Three Islands, about descendants of Thomas Carnegie (Andrew's brother) who suffered from mental illness.

It intrigued me because it was several years ago, in magazine article from around 1970, that I learned about Cumberland Island and Dungeness, the enormous mansion he built there that burned in the '50s, I think. But the ruins still stand. And Robert E. Lee's father died and was buried there for decades (they ultimately exhumed and moved him to Lexington, Virginia, to rest next to his son).

On my to-read list -- Doris Kearns Goodwin's No Ordinary Time and Team of Rivals (each of those will take a while), Annie Dillard's Pilgrim at Tinker Creek, Laura Hillenbrand's Unbroken, and Peter Matthiessen's The Snow Leopard.

I love Goodwill stores for book shopping. You never know what you'll find, and hardcovers are $2.

It sounds like everyone's holding their own. Illuminate, I'm sorry about your breakup. That's painful. But maybe you getting sober is the silver lining to that cloud, and maybe with that and some time you two can work things out.

I don't feel good, exactly, but a HELL of a lot better than I did last night. Volunteering at a downtown soup kitchen is going to be part of my plan, going to visit my aunt every week or two, posting and reading here DAILY, walking and eating more healthfully, and maybe some journalling, which I've done in the past.

Thanks for checking in everyone. Let's KEEP GOING.

I love Salvation Army for books, super cheap plus they have them half off sometimes! Just picked up a ton, I have a lot of reading to do! :-). At least it keeps us busy!

Morning all!! Thank you for all the support yesterday. I even got added support from the hubs, he's ready for me to leave this job too, I just have to he smart about it, I have 6 months till I can officially start looking, but there's light at the end of the tunnel and I can work on my resume. 🎉

Elfie, so glad to hear you are getting help. We have to do what's best for our littles and getting help is a huge first step. Ppd is no joke, and so few recognize it. Keep coming here and sharing and we'll be here to listen.

Time to attack the day, y'all! Stay positive and stay sober!

ChickenLady - why do you need to wait six months before you can move on? Especially if it's making you so unhappy?

They didn't, but if I got pulled over, they would have run my licence, and seen that my it was suspended, BUT, at court they gave me a card that said I could drive at such-and-such time to and from work, and the 3 hour personal block for shopping. My workplace was listed and my address was on the licence. Obviously, as long as you don't get pulled over, no one will know if you have a licence or not. Hope this helps. Hang in there, drinking would make things so much worse, you know that...
