Well, it seems the family dog is doing well on steroids and that perhaps he doesn't have cancer and he is to be seen again in two weeks' time. So that is good news and I am glad of that.

Hugs to all who need one.

Itchy,

I had exactly the same choices to make before I had my cataract surgeries last summer. I opted for the seeing distance, glasses close approach. I figured that I wouldn't need glasses to drive or do yard work any longer.

Post surgery, I tried just carrying around reading glasses for close up work. Part of my job involves taking shelf inventories, so it was a lot of glasses on to look at my clip board, glasses off to see the shelf. I eventually opted for a pair of progressive glasses that were basically plain glass on top and 3.5X magnifiers on the bottom. Problems solved!

Good luck with your medical procedures! It is amazing what can be done these days!

Good Evening Overs,

Gleefan - the bed is going well. We took a day off to walk part of the Leeds Liverpool Canal. I hope you get the job

Rusty - good tip.

Went to visit the in-laws today, one conversation went:

FIL - Sorry Andy can't hear you. Hearing aid isn't working.

Me - Are the batteries okay?

FIL - Yes the rain is awful.

Me - THE HEARING AID BATTERIES ARE THEY OK?

FIL - Yes they are fine. I changed them yesterday.

Me - ARE THEY IN THE CORRECT WAY AROUND?

FIL - Yes. I changed them yesterday.

Me - BUT ARE THEY IN THE CORRECT WAY AROUND?

FIL - Yes the hearing aid just isn't working.

~time passes~

FIL - These hearing aids are great. I'd put the batteries in the wrong way around.

Have a calm evening everyone.

I've been watching Strictly, too. Yeah, give it a go, Wolfie. Keeps romance alive.
Husband watching X factor but I get a bit tired of it. Like some of the singers though, there's a lot of talent out there! I can't sing for toffee!

Suze,
Thanks, glad it was useful. Just PM'd you too. It ended in doo doo.

Far,
It's a bad day kiddo, that's all. We all have them and they feel devastating when we feel them. Then we get a good night's sleep and a new day happens all on its own.

And Far, trust me on this - if you don't sound daft once in a while, or even do something that in hindsight seems daft when we are sober and really trying, you are not normal. It is normal to goof things up once in a while. I am sorry you feel down today. Do your phone companies there offer you a big trade in for your old phone if you switch to them? I got our two new last year Lumia 735 phones essentially free because they gave us $200 credit for each of ours. They only had to turn on to qualify, which yours would qualify for here in the states. Suze gave you all the advice I would have for a water damaged phone. I don't do phone just Windows computers, laptops, and tablets. The phone repairs are a pain so I pay to get them fixed if out of warranty too. I have done one screen and it is just so tedious I leave it to the folks who do it daily.

Get out of the house, go to a film or tea shop, library or church, etch some gravestones as you have lovely cemeteries over there I know. Got any old folks homes there? Visit an old person who's given up on their worthiness of visitors. You may find you both were waiting for just that human contact.

We all need to throw a good self pity party once in a while to remember why we don't choose that as our first choice anymore as there is a bottle at the end of that garden path.

It is proven when you force a smile your body reacts to it and releases some endorphins. Think of it like those pain killer buttons they give some in hospital for pain as needed. Force a smile now and hold it for 30 seconds. Really! Repeat as necessary. Then go out and share it with others as you pass by. Give them a big smile and a hearty how do you do! Watch them smile whether they like to or not. Warm the hearts of others then warm yourself by that fire you kindled. It does work. Even better, some will think you ARE daft!

On edit Far - the others posted before I read the further posts and I agree with the other folks here.

Mags,
Not being familiar with your phones over there all I can say is to get them on the ball with a visit? Just ask that they hurry it up a bit because it is your only. No need to rant or assault them yet. I hope they respond in kind. Good luck on the new job Monaday

Sassy,
Yeppers my doc, Chris, will use a laser guided by a computer robotic dealy-whopper thingamajig. He explains it in his video here: Christopher L. Shelby, M.D. - Our Doctors - WK Eye Institute - TOP Eye Doctors - TOP Ophthalmologists - TOP Optometrists - Your Eye Specialists in Shreveport Bossier City - Best Eye Care Center - Shreveport - Bossier City Louisiana - A Part of the Wi
He does Laser as it is much better. I am getting two different lenses from Acrisoft to give me better detail in all distances. You don't notice the difference once in. He does his own phones as his kids break their screens and also is an amateur archaeologist who cleans them out of surrounding rock manually as a hobby. Since I work on tiny things too he is giving me what he would give himself. But dagnabbit don't get me to lying, ophthalmology is not one of my hobbies. I'll let ya know if they let me watch. I used to assist in surgery (Medic 5 years)and was a Med Lab technologist (3 years after school completed) in two of my lives. I hope I can watch too.

RZ!
I wouldn't worry about it either. That is no more than what I taste when I use my mouthwash. I used non alcohol for several years then switched back as it is no big deal for me, and Listerine works better for me. (No, I don't swallow!) Yeah I almost choked when my wife used the same design glass as I was using for my Crystal Light, and once a few years ago I picked hers up and almost sprayed all over before I got to the sink and spit it out. No one has handed me a drink knowing it was alcohol and I don't drink however. Was that intentional on someone's part? I'd be opening a Number 10 can o whupazz if that was the case.

Good new FG! Glad for you guys.

Star,
Yeah I have the bucks so am eliminating the glasses entirely. I was going to go for the glasses for long distance as I am near sighted and take my glasses off to read and I read a lot. But we both agreed, in for a penny, in for a pound.
Amen on amazing medical tech these days. The prices are down where even a pensioner with good insurance can afford the co pay and the extra out of pocket for the good lenses. It is a once in a lifetime surgery too. Good times to be alive, and get mended when broken.

"Strictly?" I guess we don't have that in the old colonies.

I got my new toy, a quad copter with wheels that also drives on the ground with the same controller. It has a camera with HD recording to a micro SD card. Here is a video review of it flying and driving. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_Qn4Sxd0gA
Now guys, I have never done RC anything. I got it in the mail today and battery'd it up and it worked! But after almost flying into the ceiling fan which was also on I needed to go outside and do my virgin flight. Regardless of how many times you see little kids flying these with ease, they are a bit foreign. But I got her up in the air fine and back down in one piece.

It is like patting your head, while rubbing your belly, and having to switch directions of each from visual cues. I am sure with practice I will be swooping around at full speed in no time. I got it up to about 75 feet and hovered sort of stable and had a few rough landings, but found it much easier than I thought. I am going to have to spend a full day learning it and then flying daily. It isn't that it is hard, but they are so fast and responsive it is like putting a beginner driver in a Ferrari with a manual tranny. The quad is very responsive and very fast. It will climb out of range in no time and thinking in three dimensions is a trip. I will have the altitude right but be flying forward or sideways too fast and then grab the wrong control or backwards and then just do a fast hard landing before I hit the power lines or trees or me! I have found a new hobby that is anything but boring. I did manage to get about ten seconds of video and some stills from above and the quality of the video is great! Very sharp. IT only flies for five minutes and drops down to the ground when the batteries get low and will not do flips when low on battery. Since it takes 60 minutes to recharge the batteries, I will need a full day to go through self taught flight school. At least I am confident that I will not wreck it, it was that easy from first lift off. It has auto return so I can have it fly back to me automatically, and also on the ground the front wheels turn with the same joystick as flying turns are made. I can't believe the technology. I got it to fly over the woods and around the property. But I have to get a lot better before I will fly around and through obstacles.

Anyone else fly quads?

Have a great Labor Day three or four day holiday weekend folks!

Whoops, I can "see" that I didn't do a terrific job of describing how I watched my cataract surgery! I was wide awake and when he vacuumed out my original lens, I could tell that my vision was kaput for a few minutes All I could see was the bright light. After it was finished, the doc played the video of my surgery so I could see how it was done :-). It would have been brave if I had watched it before my surgery but afterwards it was kinda interesting.

I have the Crystallens which is a bit tricky to do right. When correct, it flexes to provide both good near and distance vision. Not all surgeons are good at doing them.

Itchy, your quadcopter's smart! I'd like a drone or something like but I know I'd get it stuck up a tree!!

And it worked........... never underestimate the power of a good workout, for me anyway. Can now see all the love and beauty again. Yesterday seems I was feeling sorry for myself, or as my friend said, just a few cracks starting to show. Thank you for being there for me, you truly lovely folk.
Think I got chatted up a bit this morning too, hard to tell I've been out of the "game" so long. Felt very nice anyway. Meaningless as I'm not anywhere near ready to think of anything partner wise, but hey, take the nice where you can.
Happy Sunday all.
xx
