Just passing- VC, the asthma storm hit Melbourne very quickly with up to 100k winds. The hospitals were swamped with people having distress, most of it respiratory. One hospital had 300 people in 24 hours. 2

oops- 2 people died. There are several investigations happening about admission waiting times and the ability of the ambulance service to cope. One survivor of an asthma attack (young, healthy- fit looking guy) which very nearly took his life described it. It sounded terrifying.

Well, they ran out of ambulances, so I don't know why there would be an investigation. What were the emergency services supposed to do?

One of my friends is a paramedic....those guys and girls work harder than anyone on the planet. I know this sounds callous, but thank God it was only two people.

You got engaged!!! Congratulations, Suze!!! And congrats to that super lucky future husband of yours! I can't wait to hear the details <3

And Happy early Thanksgiving, group! I thought I was being smart by getting out to the store yesterday before the crowds...I wasn't the only one with that idea. Pure craziness everywhere. Today I'm thankful though. We've got all we need and can just chill at home. Tomorrow we'll be at my parents' about twenty minutes away. My goal is to get the outdoor lights hung today...at least where I can reach (short people problems lol).

Lotsa love all around!

I Googled 'thunderstorm asthma'; good grief, how awful. I am so sorry for the people who were affected by the storm.

Sadly, I am afraid that most hospitals, world wide, are ill-prepared for large scale disasters. I am wondering if people in 'thunderstorm asthma' prone areas should carry a particulate mask or have them handy - in their offices, homes, desks, cars, purses, etc.

Nothing like this has ever happened before in Melbourne to my knowledge Leigh, certainly not in my memory anyway. It must have been terrifying.

I had no idea that Melbourne is considered the 'allergy capital of the world'....I suffer so terribly there. I don't even have asthma at all now. Nothing. Interesting huh?

Conquest huny ~ thank you love. We won't be able to plan anything until we get the visa. And to be honest, it is stressing us both out right now. We have 5 days left together until God knows when....this is the hard part.

I hope the red tape will not be too onerous...but yeah, it may take a little while Suze.

You'll have a lot of things to wrap up here in Aus anyway

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate it

Happy Thanksgiving folks! We're finally settled into our cabin for the holiday. Wow traffic was a bear but the sound of the creek just outside is melting all that stress away. I hope y'all are all enjoying a time of relaxation and gratitude.
