Six months...can you believe it? It just wasn't that long ago that six DAYS was an eternity!

Ironically, last night I had my first drinking dream in months and I was horrified that I had messed up right before this milestone...

This board is why I'm still sober. Thank you, all, so much.

I also had a horrible and vivid drinking dream last night Aries!
Maybe something about this milestone? Woke up with heart pounding and so glad it was just a dream. Whew!

Just left my cat at the vet, he is blocked and will need a procedure, and then a night in the pet emergency.

Vet bills are ridiculously expensive.

Oh, dear that's too bad. Crystals?

The good news is that it can be controlled pretty well with special food and since it's been a while since I was a vet tech, they probably have better solutions now.

I feel your pain...last fall two of my dogs were quilled by porcupines within two weeks of each other...both on weekends, which meant the emergency vet and over a thousand dollars.

Sending you and kitty a hug...

Thanks Aries, do you think wet food would help? I was reading online earlier.

The last time he got sick was Christmas Eve of 2014. He has a wonderful knack for getting sick holiday weekends! We have two dogs as well, they better remain healthy!!

I love my pets, they can be very expensive though!!

Hope your kitty feels better soon Delilah and that the vet bill isn't too much of a shock.

Good night all....

Congrats to all six-monthers, you guys are amazing.

Sunny's profile shows her last activity as 1:20 pm yesterday here. Drop in and say something, hon, we miss you.

Things are going well here, the long holiday weekend promises hard work, I'm just looking to get through it without wanting to choke the living crap out of the partiers who have already started driving through our beer-stock and spewing themselves upon the unwary. So glad I'm not there any more.

What kind of blockage is it? There are three kinds of crystals IIRC, and they all are less likely to form in acidic urine. So whatever your vet says you should do about getting his internal environment less alkaline...

There are prescription diets for this and this is just me, canned is better because they get more water in their systems and because they have much less grain in them. Cats are carnivores and have zero need for corn in their systems and many of them develop a sensitivity to it in their older years. Most kibbles are corn-based.

There is a school of thought that says a higher protein diet is hard on aging kidneys, but my kidney failure cats have all seemed to do better on canned high-end food.

This concludes our Veterinary Diet Seminar, part I.

Aries, thank you for the vet tip. My problem is that I can't get my cats to eat canned food; they like to lick at the broth, but leave the food. Luckily, the older, rescue cat, drinks a lot of water, the younger doesn't though. Any tips on which is the better insurance plan? I have the older one on a Banfield wellness plan right now, but I'm interested in getting insurance.

Morning Jannies,

We miss you (((Sunflower))). Please drop in to just say hey. xxxx
And Nic, you too. Hope all is okay with you, our dear Aussie friend.

Thump....gotta say I really admire you for holding your ground and staying sober in your work environment. Stay strong and view the antics from a distance. You got this and perhaps there is some writing material in there somewhere? - Take care friend!

For us in the U.S., Happy 4th! Wishing everyone a safe & Sober holiday weekend.
It's unusually cool and rainy here and forecast that way all weekend so our outdoor plans may be foiled. Hope the forecasters are wrong about Sun. & Mon.

Take care all...

Odelle, I have only one of my pets on insurance, the puppy, because it was relatively inexpensive to put him on it at age three months and because Goldens are notorious for swallowing large indigestible nonfood things that put them in the vet's office needing emergency surgery. I have a $200 deductible per condition/illness and a 20% copay and it's about $25 a month.

They're very nice at Petplan...but then I've never had a claim, so...

If your cats are healthy, I wouldn't worry about it too much. If you really wanted to go all out, you could add warm water and either blenderized the canned food or just stir it...yes I do this for my 18-year-old...or you can just give them what they'll eat.

It's socked in fog here this morning...here's hoping that will cut down on the noise and nonsense. The great state of Maine legalized fireworks here three years ago and it's insanity here every weekend and even worse right now...plus we had a thunderstorm roll slowly through around 2 a.m. which meant we were all up. Yawn.

Happy sober weekend, all...

Evening all.

Bandi/Delilah - sorry, few days late but thoughts for you and yours!

In fact thoughts for the whole group, esp those MIA... Sunny... Nic...

Congrats to the other 6 monthers and those approaching it.

Went out all day drinking with some friends today. They were good - didn't even try and get me to drink. They got pissed and started talking rubbish. I drove them home after! One drink might have been nice... But I am not jealous of how they're going to feel tomorrow.

Carry on all xx

Hello Jannies,

Spent several hours at the Y swimming and hanging out with the kids, I even went down the water slide a few times. It helps that I have lost weight and in better shape than last year, and I also decided to just enjoy spending time with the kids rather than what I look like in my bathing suit. I am still working on being kind to myself, it is easy for me to be encouraging and kind to others, I still struggle with me, but I am getting better!

Now the kids and I are at Friday's for a late lunch/early dinner, then we are heading to pick out cat up from the vet and we are going to rent Ghostbusters on Amazon Prime.

My Hubby is working all weekend, so the kids and I are enjoying the beautiful weather. I am making every last minute of vacation, back to work on Wednesday for me!

Hope everyone is doing well.

Mav, nicely done today. You will definitely be feeling better than your friends tomorrow!!!
