Class of August 2013 - Part 16
Hi all, just wanted to pop in to say hello. Yay us on 7 years no alcohol, woohoo. I almost can't believe it's been that long. Also, I am now just over one year, five months no mj. I love, love being free and clear of all substances. Thank you all for your kind replies last year, and I am glad that the conversation resonated with others.
What a journey this has been! I hope you are all doing well. Dee, thank you so much for all of your support for so many people over the years.
Much love.

Simply Marvelous, V!!! You have really put this thing to bed, and while dealing with so many other things along the way. But you never wavered. I applaud your strength and commitment, and wish you the best in your future endeavors.
I am so happy to see the other members of our small group doing so well over the years (yes I stop in from time to time).. I want to share that I relapsed while in Thailand in 2017, after over 3 years of sobriety. I had become complacent, was not on SR much, but got involved with AA and then felt obligated to do the step work, at the urging of sponsors. It did not go well, especially my 9th step, as I had a long list of those I felt I had wronged over the years, mostly due to my overactive sense of guilt and shame, which has proven difficult. I also drank due to frustration with my inability to resolve my codependency issues (with my brother and girlfriend), and anxiety, which remain problematic.
I never drink when I am in the Philippines with my adopted family (due to kids) but did return to occasional drinking when here in the States (3-5 drinks a week) or traveling in other countries overseas. Quitting completely just ramps everything else up for me, especially my other issues. I have spent significant effort with therapy and even ACOA, but it seems a chaotic and loss-filled childhood = problems later in life. Of course any dependence on a substance diminishes our ability to address those underlying issues, so I returned to SR last November. I still bike 6 hours a week on average, plus do some hiking in the canyons here in Tucson, where I moved after getting tired of the constant rain in the PNW. I do miss my travel but the desert is so amazing and we have had a spectacular monsoon this year.
I hope everyone has survived the pandemic, gotten vaccinated and remain healthy and enjoying life! As best we can these days, lol.
My best to all of you. Keep up the great work!

Eight years!
Eight years with no alcohol or pot!!
My wife and I celebrated 21 years of marriage earlier this year and we dropped our 18 year-old daughter off at college last week. Life is beautiful.
I hope everyone from our small class is doing well and finding peace.

Hey guys! Nine years tomorrow.
Life is good. Enjoyed a trip to Italy this spring, my first time there. Wow! It was lovely, interesting and delicious!
Continue to enjoy hiking, though the summers here aren't super-conducive to fun hikes (bugs, heat). Looking forward to fall.
Sending my best to all of you. Hope all are well!

Nine years!
Congrats Venecia! We’ve made it nine years. Life is good. I was in Rome for six days in May, maybe we crossed paths? I take my daughter back to college tomorrow; she spent the summer studying in Florence. I fill my days with meditation, exercise, listening to music, and growing older with my wife. I’m glad you are doing well.
