Strat, that's great cake and great advice from both you and Kaneda.....and as an example, I have really gotten into the ancestry/DNA stuff. You can really dive into that as much/little as you want and it can be as time consuming as you want.

Congrats to our milestone celebrants today!

That is awesome that you do ancestry stuff Mark, and I love that you shared that with us. Maybe we could all share interests and activities we enjoy being sober? I'm into zumba.

Thanks for sharing Kaneda what has worked for you.
I agree we all need a definite plan for recovery and we must follow it.
What works for one may not work for another but still I believe one must pull out all the stops when it comes to staying sober. I tried far too long working a program half heartedly, thought I could moderate, thought I was strong enough in early sobriety to avoid some of the pitfalls. I found out differently. I found out I had to use every tool in the toolbox and use them daily.
I have heard many recovering alcoholics say that the first year is a physical healing and that the second year is a mental healing. I only know one thing for sure. It took God, myself, my sponsor, other alcoholics, AA, SR and many other tools to get me to where I am today. I get a daily reprieve by working this program/plan ODAAT. You are not cured of alcoholism but you can heal. For that I am forever Grateful. And I continue to work on myself everyday.

That's great strat.....and quite a workout I imagine! I like fitness stuff too. Weights specifically. It's rewarding to see how much progress can be made when alcohol is no longer in the diet.

Just to add to Kaneda's awesome and wise post, one of the things that was really helpful for me, was building a sober life. Explore new activities and hobbies that you think you may enjoy during the time you'd normally drink. Even if you're not sure you like the activities at first, stick with them (unless you really hate the activity). I've been able to build a new network of friends, have accountability in other ways, and none of it involves drinking. Additionally, if I had cravings and wanted to drink, I had those activities and didn't have the time to drink. By the time I was done, the craving was generally gone.

Awesome post Strat. Distraction was key for me also. Finding new things to do and accomplish was vital and still is.

Wise words indeed. Plus I like the above quote. It has a ring of truth about it.

Just a couple more hours and Day 2 is over. Work went ok; better than I expected though I had a mood swing, just like so many times over the past couple of months..one that I keep inside. Frustrated with my job, like at wit's end and ready to walk out. What fixed it was LUNCH. Blood sugar..it's Day 2! And not once did I consider drinking. Because I know that nothing can ever change or be fixed without sobriety. Eat, and get through the day.

I got through it. And maybe those feelings will get better soon, maybe it will take a long time, but with sobriety I will have options. Without it, I won't. I just need to hold on and get better. I remembered that. Thank you 24 hour friends.

24 more!

7:39 pm

Love and strength to all,

RBJ

So happy to hear you had such a positive day RBJ.
You are right, of course. Every day we stay sober, it gets better. We cope better. We get stronger.
Sending more love. ♥
