Hi all,
It's been some time since I posted on SR but I just wanted to share where I am at and my gratitude.
My last drink was 24 December 2015 and so I am now 15 months sober!! In my very early days SR was my lifeline, keeping me company during the long, dark, lonely, desperate days of staying away from the drink. I was in a terrible state physically, mentally and spiritually. I had been dismissed from my job due to being drunk on duty and I was at my rock bottom. I had to choose between suicide (hypothermia a result of into the local river), drinking myself to death or getting sober. Thankfully, I chose getting sober!!
15 months on??! I am happy, sober and following the 12 step programme of recovery. I understand AA is not for everyone but I believe it has saved my life. I have an understanding of my illness now, how to treat it and how to live a sober life. I have friends, true caring friends, that I have met in sobriety and who are also recovering alcoholics so they understand my addiction. I give back to the fellowship as much as I can with service and regular attendance at meetings keeps me mentally and spiritually well.
Thank you all at SR who have helped me on my road to recovery.
