Nice to see you again, Max.

360 I have been plagued by thoughts of my past every time I've quit drinking--and it doesn't happen right away, either. My brain has to de-fog just enough so that I can start remembering the horrible things I did. But from my experience, it gets easier. I stopped dwelling on them and learned to see what Dee talked about. I couldn't change the past, but I had a shot at my future if I stayed sober.

This time it happened early on, but then disappeared. But then again, I'm still in a fog for some reason!

Day 8. Today I registered for a really interesting conference that involves getting up at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday! When I was drinking, I either 1) would not have registered at all 2) I'd register with high hopes but then the day would come, and I'd be physically unable to go due to a raging hangover.

Have a good night, everyone.
Thanks! I talk to myself allot these days, tell my brain to shut up, you know. Congrats on 8 days! I did the conference thing last weekend, it turned out awesome, and just the same as you, I never would have gone if I was still drinking.

I love this max. I feel the same. And you can do it with Him. We all can.

Dee thanks for your response yesterday!! I'm really working on living in the now and not in the past.

Prayers for Karen!

Congrats OOTT!! 30 IS AWESOME.

Knb... Great job on 38. Glad you're strong today. I really hope our class doesn't diminish. Seems to me like we're pretty strong, I look forward to seeing what you all have to say.

Day 25, about halfway through "under the influence" if I ever considered drinking again, I wouldn't after reading this. What we have done to our bodies is really insane!

Have a great sober day guys!

I just found a useful and motivating account of alcohol withdrawal symptoms day by day, based on a compilation of actual testimonials. For instance, you can look up "day 4" symptoms, mild, moderate, or severe, as reported by people. Interestingly, it continues to compile accounts of people even for day counts higher than 30.

JL well done friend! I'm really rooting for you! Great stuff.

I'm still around, reading. Just been more mellow. I think maybe WHEN I make it through this weekend I'll have some more energy and confidence.

I'd like to think my mental faculties will return one day.
My old dream of getting a college degree feels moot at age 44, but it's there still lurking beneath the kids, jobs, wife's emotional health worries.
I used to get online, start to sign up, even for a diploma mill, and start drinking again and forget about it. Wow. That's sad to admit that !! There it is though. Now it really is more plausible to invest in my children I think. I don't know. So much has changed with the drinking damage I think I've done.
Ok enough depressing stuff
This is just my opinion - although there is value in an education - I think there is more value in putting yourself out there being confident and being willing to start lower than you want to get where you want to be. (Not having any idea what your background or current job is)

Hey guys, I'm back! I tried to get to my detox meeting but got completely lost and just came home instead. On the bright side, I found a shortcut to work! I don't think it was worth me going anyway, the whole point was that I get help detoxing with Librium. I detoxed from home instead. I'll phone them up later and tell them this, I want them to give someone else my place ASAP if I don't need it.

I think I've got a bit of what AA call pink cloud syndrome, I start working through the steps with my sponsor in 2 days time so hopefully that won't be too detrimental. I feel great right now but I know things can get ugly really quickly.

OOTT - Day 30 is brilliant! Congratulations on reaching that milestone.

Karen - Keeping busy is a great thing as long as it distracts you from drinking. Get to meetings when you can, even if it's just once a week or once every couple of weeks. Do you work with AA? I find the daily reflections really helpful if I don't have time to get to a meeting. You can download an app or buy a book for it.

JL - Double digits! Well done!! I've consumed a lot of ice cream these past two weeks, I'm allowing the sugar cravings for now.

Optimist - I'm glad you're in a good place, and I hope you start to feel better soon. I had a stinking cold when I decided to quit, I think it actually got me through that first week!

360 - Congrats on reaching 25 days! It's great that you made it to a conference, we're so much more productive when we're sober, it's great.

Mel - Thanks for the link, it's really interesting, most articles only seem to cover the first few days of physical withdrawal. I like how that one goes beyond that.

Applekat - Great to hear from you! Keep checking back when you can.

You'll drink virgin margaritas, and no one will know the difference. ˇOlé!

My husband told me that he has observed that the higher-ups in his company will nurse one drink the entire night at a conference. They want the appearance of looking like they're 'partying' with you, but really they are watching you very closely.

I thought about what that drink would do to me and also about you guys... no thanks, not today. I'm going to be sober for me. For that scared person inside of me, I'm not going to hurt him anymore. Thank you for all your kind words they mean so much to me. I hope everyone is hanging tough today, 8 days for me and I don't think I could have done it without you guys...
Hooray!! That's great news, on both fronts. So glad to hear it. Celebrate with a fizzy water! I've been drinking a lot of that.

Hang in there, Ddee! It will get better, especially without alcohol; deep down we all know that, even if the desire to escape is strong! Stay in the fight. We're all here to support one another.

I tried to get in contact with Coco earlier, I don't think she's been online much today though. Time zones are confusing.

Thankful to be sober with y'all !!!
Ditto here, I have a huge appetite now, and some sweet cravings, and I've never really had a sweet tooth.

Ditto also on the immune system. I have a terrible cold, but my private recovery counselor still wants to see me today!

I was hard to see "EtOH abuse" on my online medical record just now. Can't let it trigger me though -- I remind myself that the docs need to know. They want to help!

OT, I'm really proud of you for going into detox, good job! *edit, ah, I see you got lost. Well, sounds like you're motivated and doing ok without the meds.
