Hey folks. Just passing an invitation. Whenever you need, there are other Marchers available. The Marcher 2013 thread is full of the most helpful people in the world. And there's a member here: sleepie, who does the most amazing avatars. She did mine.

Hi, new here today is only half over but made it all day yesterday. Yesterday was my sons birthday and we even went out to celebrate and I didn't even think about it. Trying to get through today.

Welcome first posters!

SR will save your life if you take advantage of it.
Read, read, and read some more. Then post, post, and post some more.

You just joined a group who has been there and done that.

Post what ever you want. NOTHING will be shocking or disturbing here. It helps to get it out.

Like, for example, I was an all day drinker. I did door 2 door sales....drunk. Mixed drinks in my car. Always had a bottle.

Before that, I worked brick and mortar. I drank on lunch.

I stole pain pills from family before. Some from my Ex's grandmom who really needed them and was always confused when she'd run out early.

I broke into my brothers house when he was at work to steal some pills he had.

I lied constantly. My life was nothing but a lie.

Point is...
Say what you want. Get those self damaging thoughts out. It helped me.

My group (April15) got to know the real me and watched me grow. Got some solid support as a result.

Quit on!

None for me today.

I posted this on the Feb forum, but I since I slipped up yesterday, this is day 1 for me.

I'm going on Campral tonight. I really, really hope it works!! I'll do some searching on this site for folks' experiences.

Campral Treatment for Alcoholism

AV was strong today, but I beat it. Just as I was going to pull into the store after my appointments, I continued on home. Going to pick up my son sober today, and hopefully every day for a long time!

Gotta keep up the hope. Once that's gone, I guess so am I.

Are you working with a Dr with the Campral GG?

I hope so

I think it's important people do that. What works for others may not work or even be suitable for us.

Never heard of campral. Smokers I've known who went on chantix had a wide range of side effects including crazy dreams and paranoia, so I'm a little cautious. If it works though, that's great.

I medicate with food, and try to be mindful of HALT in the hours right after work and on weekends. I grab a snack as soon as I get home. I need to do some shopping and get some diet soda though; not much left in the house.

Hi cococo. Let's not meet in the April class too, deal?

Slowly winding down day 2. Something feels different this time.

Keep on keepin' on everyone. Play the tape through to the end.

Hello Marchers of 2016! You have picked an awesome month to get sober. As you can probably tell from my screen-name I arrived at SR three years ago. We 2013 Marchers are a strong bunch who get a lot of strength and support from each other, just as I'm sure the 2016 March class will do for each other.

You probably think that three years sounds forever away but it isn't, it goes fast and sobriety really does rock. The hardest thing in the first few days and weeks is the not drinking. Prepare for it by thinking about what you will do instead.

I still pour my favourite soft drink at 5.45pm (with ice and lemon) before my witching hour of 6pm. These days it's a pleasant habit but in the old days it was a much needed change. I am a real foodie but I didn't go to restaurants for about six months until I was used to not drinking.

You might think that things won't be as good without your DOC but I'm here to tell you that not drinking has given me my life,my health and real enjoyment.

I wish the same for each one of you.

----- I see Trachy dropped in at the top of the page, he is my favourite southern gentleman.

Yeah, I've been in a few classes myself. The only reunion I want to have with everyone here is the may 2016 one though. :-) let's make it happen!

Yep, it's my shrink. Campral is more appealing to me than Naltrexone, but yes, people have different reactions and may need to switch. Many clients at my private recovery center are on one or the other of these, and I was told today with good results. So, fingers crossed!! I wish I'd asked for it sooner, sigh. Well, better late than never.

Most [good] docs won't prescribe it right away. They want you to go to counseling, AA, etc first and do the hard work before getting a magic pill.

I'm off the ADHD med. She thought it might help to calm my brain, thereby reducing cravings, but I couldn't see that it was helping, and I don't want to be a walking pill box!

p.s. Hi, Coco! Ben & Jerry's New York Super Fudge Chunk is helping! I saw that you also like cats. I had 3 [I've rescued many ferals], and now it's down to one, Fritz, a very affectionate and demanding cat. I lost his brother very recently, and was quite sad.
