Evening all, I'm feeling really good about myself today. I've heard a lot of nice comments from people and I'm starting my Friday night in high spirits. A new opportunity has arisen in my life that could be great but is also really scary. I'm pondering it for now.

So many new faces have popped up since I left the house this morning, welcome everyone!!!

Freedom - Congrats on making it through Day 11! Enjoy that BBQ!

Mia - Day 27 is great, keep fighting those cravings. Like the others said, for sure get rid of that bottle of wine! Looking back at your drinking days with rose tinted spectacles is common, but if they were that great you wouldn't be trying to quit! Reading through your old posts is a good idea - I have a few diary entries I glance over to remind myself how miserable I actually was.

Auggie - Winding down on a Friday night sounds like a much better plan than working your way through a 12 pack.

OOTT - You're right that I would advise against going, but unfortunately you can't press the pause button on life during recovery. As long as you're sure, stay strong and keep us updated. Well done on Day 24, don't throw that away!

Jeni - Congrats on Day 25! You're not stupid or weak, addiction can creep up on anyone. You're actually VERY strong for beating it, it's one of the hardest things to go through in my opinion.

New here today

Hi, after finding this site yesterday and lurking for hours, this is my 2nd post. I will post more later -- I need to go pick up my son after not seeing him all week (6th grade camp). This was extremely hard on me, as he has never been away from home, and he has Asperger's Syndrome. My husband was also away on a business trip, so yeah, I drank. And I feel really horrible about it. After struggling for months to quit for good, yesterday I felt like I really mean it now. So it's day 2 for me.

I'm in private rehab, see a counselor, get help from a shrink, and have been to both AA and Al-Anon, once. I need to go more, but not to Al-Anon yet. That was way too stressful. I've been told I need both.

I ended up starting to get help months ago when the school called CPS because I showed up intoxicated. Nothing has come of it, so I guess I passed the interview...

I'm glad I found this site. I found it because my blood pressure is through the roof [very scary, I have my own monitor], and I'm dealing with some withdrawal symptoms. Hope they soon will pass.

Thank you. It's in the red zone. I couldn't sleep last night, but read not to take Nytol if your BP is high. I'm a bit shaky and feel kind of hyper/ heart racing. Yesterday morning I had a few panic/ anxiety attacks. I see the doc on Tuesday. I'm guessing they will put me on meds to lower the BP, but from what I gleaned here, it typically goes down on its own after a couple of weeks of not drinking [?]. I've never had high BP in my life, so it's scary.

I've only been a serious alcoholic for a few years [but got to drinking a LOT], so I hope there isn't too much organ damage. My recent blood tests came out pretty normal.

How does one "thank" a post? *nevermind* I found it!

Welcome GardenGal. Careful with that BP. If you are concerned can you go to urgent care? Deep slow belly breathing may help.

Good job on Day 6, CuteNGay, and absolutely stay close to SR this weekend.

Welcome, GardenGirl, I'm glad you posted. If you are concerned about your blood pressure or other symptoms, don't hesitate to go to an ER. Detoxing from alcohol can be dangerous.

GardenGal - Welcome. Check in often. Sounds like a close call with CPS. For me it was DWI. I think sometimes maybe we just need that slap in the face.

CuteNGay - I'm with you. I'll stay close this weekend. Today has been difficult.

Welcome gardengal. Hi everyone. I've got my son's 7th birthday party today. So looking forward to spending some quality sober time with my beautiful boy. We are making a mario kart cake lol. Really beginning to enjoy and appreciate the small things. Alcohol is not needed and just makes life more chaotic. Keep strong team feb

Picked up a bottle of cherry fizzante and hope hope hoping kids will go to bed by 8 and we can put on a grownup movie lol! Those are my tentative plans.

Also - anyone an 80s/90s kid who grew up watching Full House?! Nerd alert - Fuller House premiers on Netflix today. I will be using that as a craving curbing strategy lol!!

JL - how ya doing?

Day 21 here! And rolling along strong.
I even went out on a couple of dates this week and no alcohol. That was a milestone. I was thinking to myself... Can I be interesting without a few martinis down the hatch??And the answer was a resounding YES!

My 7 yr olds jumping to watch the latest " the flash" episode on hulu. I honestly usually drink when I'm watching it on Friday nights, but I'll probably skip it tonight.
I'm off in 30 minutes, but not feeling the "want a break" for whatever reason. I'm taking full advantage of it. Still thinking about pizza, actually.

Sounds like we're all starting the weekend off with positivity!

I realized the other day when the my AV started back with the persuasion that it was because my roommates were drinking wine. The cravings came back pretty strong. They keep their alcohol up in their room but made no effort to hide the drinking in front of me.

I still have my leftovers as mental insurance. Eventually I will get to the dumping out point, but right now it's keeping me mindful of my thoughts and actions.
I'm thinking a move back home to the farm may be in order soon. I need to remove myself from this toxic situation and get back on my feet and have my family home back so I can have my two oldest kids back.

Happy friday all, and happy thoughts to you all.

Dump your leftovers. There's no mental insurance allowed here. No stashes, no safety nets, no "emergency snakebite medicine!"

Just as an aside, one thing I haven't mentioned is that during the first week I dumped a certain smoking device (I live in a state where pot is legal).
It wasn't very difficult--- I never really liked pot, it just wasn't my thing.
