[QUOTE=JL2014;5815763]I've started reading articles and more links that ppl posted on here. 1 of them said that there's absolutely no way you can start and succeed at sobriety unless you go through a 30 day inpatient program. The person that wrote this said they themselves went through a 20 month inpatient program.
That was kind of a hope crasher for me to read that. There are people that get sober without having to lose everything to do it, aren't there?[/

I know many people in AA who didn't lose everything to get sober. Some of them still had their home job family car etc .

But I do agree that one needs to change ones attitude towards stress and know what to let go of .

I really want to watch at least one more Oscar film before the awards Sunday night. I read Room, and would love to watch it or something else.

Enjoy the movie, Cute!

When it comes to nosy nellies inquiring about not drinking, I'm a big fan of the broken record technique, repeat as needed:
"You aren't drinking?" "No thanks I'm not drinking." "Why aren't you drinking?" "No thanks, I'm not drinking." "Really? Can't you have just one?" "No thanks, I'm not drinking."

A few cycles and most will move on, and you have not revealed anything you didn't want to....yeah!

Hi Kitty

You have been 3 weeks sober today kitty. That's amazing. Take yourself out for a nice lunch, or buy something from a fancy deli or bakery.

That sounds like a good technique. Some people have a burning desire to know everybody elses private business.

How are you going?

How is the non smoking going?

Day 23. I was stressed this morning, but I'm on track. I'm worried about becoming complacent. I know I'm going to tempt fate this summer and say yes. I really need to address this and be ready. The fear that I had at the beginning is slowly going away and I don't want to become overconfident.

I have the EXACT same fear. I've been really bothered by it for 2 days. I was talking to a long time sober person last night. He told me he thinks it's freaking me out because I'm serious and dedicated. But that doesn't give me a solution. I'm scared too!

Hello everyone! I had to rush out the door this morning so I didn't have time to make a post! I didn't get a lot of sleep last night and had a long day, I found myself at work wishing I could sneak some vodka into the bathroom. It just makes me crabbier and even more tired, alcoholic logic right there. Still sober though and getting an early night tonight.

Congrats to all the milestoners!

JL - The idea that you have to hit rock bottom before getting sober is an outdated view. I never hit rock bottom but it was in sight, I knew exactly where my life would end up going if I carried on and I felt so ill I had to stop.

OOTT - Avoid your triggers, take care of yourself, and keep sharing here. You're right, I've heard people share at meetings that becoming overconfident is what lead to their relapse. We don't need to let our alcoholism define us, but we can't ignore it either. Congrats on Day 23!

safeandsound - Well done on Day 2, you're doing great!
