Knb02.. Thanks for the posts. Glad you are doing well. Today is day 19 for me. I have similar feeling like yourself. It gets easier everyday yet me AV screamed at me last evening. Guess it knows this time might be for real and it is upset. The evenings are starting to seem 'normal' without drinking. Yet I know thus journey is in its infancy. For myself I am going to develop better skills at handling stress rather than opening up bottles of wine. This weekend will present challenges yet I want to make this 3 weekends in a row. I have also developed a taste for dark chocolate ju-jubes. Have a good Thursday everyone.

It never occurred to me that I can check in here on my phone from work! Thanks Tiredofme, that's a great idea and I'm going to do it before I leave work to help with the dreaded drive home.

Good morning and congrats to everyone for making it another day!

Today is 11 for me. I wanted to post in the store last night. I always rush in to this specific store, grab something for dinner and beer of course. Well I didn't buy beer, didn't even want to. I also found myself taking my time doing my shopping, smiling at the people around me, no rush. Even visited with the ladies at the register.

I didn't realize until yesterday that I made a daily rush home, not enjoying life or those around me, because I needed to get home to my beer. It was a humbling realization. How selfish of me!

Good for you soberjim. I battle my boredom and cravings with heaps of sugary foods. Not happy about it but you got to start somewhere I guess. I have my forth weekend coming up and I intend to keep busy. I never drove anywhere on the weekends because I wanted to stay at home and drink. But now I go for long walks or see a movie

30startstoday. Know what you mean by centering your life around drink. Its a horrible addiction. I feel like I have been let out of jail!

Happy Thursday OldSkoolFool!

It occurred to me this morning...I really like being able to look my family in the face in the morning without any shame and not try to hide my face with my long hair and avoiding eye contact hoping they cannot seeing how puffy I am!

Morning! Got a great night sleep last night, woke up feeling good. It almost feels weird. I'm so used to waking up, head throbbing and in a fog all day and feeling tired and nauseaus. My AV is saying, Something wrong! No AV, it's so right.

Day 6. It's gonna take some time, but I can get used to this.

Good morning, everyone. I'm way behind on posts so I'll have to catch up with what's going on with all of you a bit later when I have more time.

I've gotten back up to a week sober today. I'm having a hard time accepting being sober though. I keep going back and forth as to whether I really want sobriety more than I want to drink. Thoughts of drinking are pretty constant in my mind. I keep finding myself planning how I'm going to drink around my obligations. I keep thinking that my next drink will be the one that makes the difference, that will make me happy. I think the biggest thing is I'm just not convinced sobriety is going to make me happy. Even in my extended periods of sobriety I only had very fleeting bouts of contentment. I just figure if I'm going to be miserable, I might as well drink because at least then I have a reason to be miserable and know what to expect. Any perspective or encouragement would be super appreciated. I'm in a bit of a dark place.

Starting day 4, my last of four days in a row off work. This little mini-vacation has been nice, especially after last weekend's awfulness at work.

No real plans for today. I might go browse some antique and junk stores. Haven't done that in a while.

Woke up feeling kinda hungover this morning. Very dry mouth. I had too much salt in my diet yesterday. I tried pan searing some tuna last night and didn't get the spice mixture right. It was still edible but a little disappointing. The salad I made with it was great though.

KarenOskie -- Thanks for your honest post. Alcohol ceased being a reward for me a long time ago. It was just a burden, one of those things I had to do whether I really wanted to or not. Sorry you're down right now, maybe you could start a new hobby or something, find a new reward to take booze's place?

mns1 -- Hope school is still going well for you. Great job going to school while dealing with the stresses of early sobriety.

FacingFuture -- Thanks for the kind words.

Carlygirl -- Great job immediately recognizing an uncomfortable situation and leaving it! There are plenty of restaurants to eat at that don't have those old drinking associations for us.

JamesSquire -- Glad you were able to check in finally and that you made it through this past rough weekend with your sobriety intact. Wish I could say the same about myself.

tiredofme -- It is wonderful to have this support system available 24/7, isn't it?

Oroszlan -- Congrats to my fellow day 4'er!

HighDraw18 -- I always enjoy your positivity. Hope all is well with you!

knb02 -- That point of "not drinking seeming normal" sounds wonderful to me. I have felt it in the past, hope I get there again soon. I know the only way I am going to get there is if i don't drink today.

JL2014 -- Maybe this is just me, but I'm trying not to think of my recovery as a fight this time. Fights only happen when both sides choose to engage. I no longer want to engage with my addiction. I'm done listening to it. It's not worth my time.

soberjim -- Congrats on 19 days!

njdellis -- Two weeks today! That's huge. Great job.

360startstoday -- Cool story about your realization at the store. Thanks for sharing!

OldSkoolFool -- Thanks for checking in. 13 days is amazing!

amazingjoy -- Clear-headed mornings is probably the best reward I receive in early sobriety. Hope all is OK with you.

bluedog97 -- Six days is awesome. You've got this!

Camryn474 -- One week! Congratulations! I bet if you really think about it, you'll find that you also have only had fleeting moments of contentment while drinking. You wouldn't have searched out a sobriety message board if your drinking was all hunky dory. Recovery is a process, it's going to take time for my ways of thinking to change. I've been addicted to a depressant in alcohol for a long time. I trust in Dee and others with some long term sobriety that it does get better if we give it time and put some work into our recovery. Wishing you the best today.

Hope everyone has a happy and sober Thursday!

Chinaski that's a good idea. I'm having a crap week at work but I'll be glad to be off tomorrow. That usually is when I drink though. Gonna post a lot through tomorrow I think.

Hi guys- I'm day 20! Feeling such a range of emotions over these past 20 days it's confusing. I know I have no real inclination to drink so far, and haven't found it too difficult but still have that feeling like I'm hiding from life a little.
I feel really content at times and have a real inner happiness and kind of 'buzz' that I'm not drinking and other times I just feel this irrational anger and irritation with everyone and everything- wondering why I can't just be 'normal' and not have to have this thing governing my thoughts so much.
I do think giving up an addiction and being successful has a lot to do with how you enter in to it. I really have taken the approach of 'yay, bring it on I'm so happy to be sober!!!' Rather than seeing it as a punishment I have to somehow endure and it definitely helps. Sometimes there's no escaping the anger and low moods this addiction causes and I just try to do something to take my mind off it and it usually passes.
It's my birthday on Sunday and was going to lie low and stay home but am going to my my mums for lunch instead. I've requested that she doesn't have any wine there as I think I could easily talk myself into 'one glass, it is my birthday after all' kind of brainwashing!

Anyway well done and keep strong to the old and new class mates

By the way I'm sorry if it seems like I blurt out random stuff here and there- I don't mean to be insensitive if I haven't commented or supported anyone who's having a rough time but I don't always get a chance to catch up and read through and sometimes I just need to write things down quickly!
Camyrn I'm sorry your feeling this way- the only way to combat is to get busy- do anything- tackle something that's been bothering you for ages (sock drawer?!) that was a joke, but seriously just move and take your mind nd from it. The more you distract the more it will eventually pass and you'll think 'thank god I didn't do that now'. Stay strong, you and your life are more than worth it!

Good morning all! Lots of good discussions here today.

Day 4 for me, and feeling more healthy and able to focus.

Njdellis: Congrats on making it to day 14! That's quite an accomplishment!

Joy: I get the puffy face thing! I feel like my face is finally starting to look normal after 4 days. Jeez, if we're seeing that on the outside, what is alcohol doing on the inside?

Thanks for all the great posts everyone! We can do this today, together!
