Brilliant BD. And nice compromise.

(And completely off topic, but I am dying to talk to someone about Grey's).

Venuscat, how is your class going? How much time do you put into it each day?

It's hardly important....except to me. And anyone who loves Grey's. No spoilers though, so I'll be quiet.

Well Leigh, I ran into a problem. Long-story short, I am having USB driver issues with my PC that are causing me to almost pull my hair out. I need to sort it out finally (I may ask Findingtheway to help me), because so far, no one seems to be able to work out what is wrong.

Do I buy a new computer? I don't know....but I need to go and buy an external hard drive next week so that I can back everything up before I try the next fix.

After that, I will know how much time I'm going to put in each day. Really, two hours is plenty. It's supposedly 8-12 hours a week.

Aren't you glad you asked?

USB drives are intermittently failing (I use a USB mouse rather than the mouse pad). The mouse is fine.

If I restart, it's all good. The driver software is all working correctly. (Apparently).
I have done all of the troubleshooting Microsoft will let me do, including checking for hardware issues.

I think I should re-install the USB drivers anyway. But of course, I could stuff it up even more.

EDIT: I have checked with two computer techs re do I use the Windows 7 drivers or download the ASUS ones....answer is, bring it in and I will look at it. NO!

That seems to be an issue for a lot of win7 users.

you could try this

Reinstall USB controllers

===========================

Use the Mouse

=============

First, please disconnect all USB devices and then perform the following steps:

1. Click "Start", type in Device Manager the Search bar and press "Enter". Click Continue if necessary.

2. In Device Manager, double click to expand "Universal Serial Bus controllers", right click on the "Host Controller", click "Uninstall" and click "OK".

3. Repeat the step 2 to uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus controllers".

Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

Use the Keyboard

=============

First, please disconnect all USB devices. Then, go through the following steps:

1. Press "Ctrl + Esc" to open the Start Menu.

2. Type Device Manager in the Search bar and press "Enter". Click Continue if necessary.

3. In Device Manger, press Tab and use "Up" and "Down" to move the highlight to "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".

4. Press "Right" and expand it.

5. Press "Down" to move to the first item and press "Delete" to remove it.

6. Repeat the step 5 and uninstall all items under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".

Then, restart your computer and Windows 7 will reinstall all controllers automatically.
trouble is you'd have to do it the clunky keyboard way if the mouse is usb.

if it was me I'd probably try the win 7 drivers first.

Ya never know

OK....that's awesome. I got to the Universal Serial Bus Controllers, and did a test.
It said all working fine, but I guess that's not necessarily true.
I can do what you suggest, except there is a warning that they may not reinstall.

I can use the mouse pad NP, so I would do it that way....

Thank you so much for looking this up for me Dee.
I can only get so far on my own (self-trained).

I may have fixed it....I went into that article, and got to the part about USB Selective Suspend. I had it turned off for when I'm plugged in, and I have a feeling a Windows update may have reset it.

TY once again, and if it doesn't work, I now know what to try next.

Morning guys. A cold winter mornin for us in the northeast. Caught some snow squalls early as the boy was up bright and early, 6am. The sun is shining and it gives me some hope for a better day (and night).

Have a great weekend!

Hi gang,

The temps in store for you guys in the northeast are surreal to me. We'd be shut in here with weather like that. I certainly don't have the proper clothing for it. 20s for tonight and then I didn't see anything below freezing in the 10 day forecast. Pollen season will be here all too soon.

So pruning shrubs here and will soon tackle the crepe myrtles that line the drive. Yes, very exciting stuff.....but I like it.

Wishing y'all warmth and serenity.

Oh dear; I'd be truly dead in the water.

I hope that you find the solution soon without expense, venuscat.
