Congrats on Day 3 Chinaski. I find that reading/posting here first thing in the morning helps me too. The first week is always so hard. I know, from experience, that once I get some good time under my belt it gets a little easier. This is by far the hardest time I have had trying to quit. I guess what they say about this disease being progressive is true. Sigh.

Sounds like overall everyone is doing well today! It truly is wonderful to wake up sober. Even though I didn't sleep well last night I still feel 1000 times better than if I had drank.

Thanks everyone for supporting each other let's keep grinding toward long-term sobriety together. Keep upmthe awesome work!

Hello everyone. I would like to join this class. Im still struggling, and I really do want a sober life. Im sick of this cycle, it only brings pain and destruction. So, today begins my day one.

Looking forward to sharing this journey with all of you. Thanks.

The AV had its way with me lately. I have to learn how to tell it NO No matter what, drinking is not the solution. I really need all your support guys, a lot.

I'm plugging thru this day, as best as I can. My danger usually lies on day 3 and beyond. So, I will be here a lot, for awhile.

Hi LadyBug! Congrats on your new wee one. I was in the moms club with you for awhile. I have also had another baby and was completely sober while pregnant with him. He's 16 month now. I've never drank while pregnant with any of my kids, it's like flipping a switch, I can turn it off but only while pregnant. I am just soooooo fricken tired of this ride.

Hi PeacefulRain, I remember you! Congrats on your new baby too. I hear you on the not drinking while being pregnant. It was so easy stay sober while pregnant with my 2 - I never even thought about it. I loved being pregnant and I felt so good. I often kid and say I just need to stay pregnant haha, but at 44 I am done so I need to find a way to do this on my own. Anyway, good to see you

That's exactly what I said but I'm almost 42 and while I love being pregnant I am sooooooo done with kids. That train derailed and there were no survivors 😝 So I too will have to do it on my own.

There are a lot of familiar names in this class so hopefully we can all help each other. We all know how hard this is and I feel less alone when I come here. No one else gets it, even though they try to. I am just so tired of feeling bad, physically and mentally.

Hi, everyone! Just finished catching up on all your posts. Chinaski, I'm impressed by how you responded to everyone! My mind isn't clear enough yet. I think it's really helpful to respond personally to people.

I got a lot out of the posts and can relate to all of them. Virginia Woof and keeppushing, I have the same idea: counseling and making a plan. VW I really liked what you said about sobriety having more appeal than drinking. I think that's why I stopped this time. FABL, I often have that thought that I COULD drink when there is a great opportunity for it, like a day off. This time I'm telling myself I absolutely have the freedom to do it (I'm rebellious, so that' s important to me), but I'm choosing not to. It will not make my life better and will most likely make it worse. It relates to what kittycat said: "drinking is a very short term release, with long-term consequences" (and btw like others, I can totally relate to doing too much at once--thinking I can change every bad habit in my life in a single day. It never works. I'm allowing myself to just focus on not drinking this time, too.) Welcome, maximus. Mel, I had to laugh at your "racing to the movies" Whatever works to distract ourselves, I think. Ladybug, I think I might remember you from one of my three previous attempts on SR. I agree that it gets harder and harder!! This past week has been pretty awful: depression, rages, grief, cravings, shaking, headaches, etc, etc, But I'm on Day 8 now, and I feel calm for the first time.

Went to my second SOS meeting last night. It is SO different from AA. I'm not knocking AA because I know it works for some people, just not for me. Anyway, it's a very small group, so I was able to open up, as did everyone else. It felt very safe. I was able to be myself. Today I'm working on "homework" from my counselor that involves recognizing triggers and developing specific ways of responding to them--I see a lot of others are doing the same thing.

Feeling good for the first time since quitting! Bonus--my skin is usually red and patchy from drinking. Today I noticed it is completely clear and even!!

Happy Wednesday. So glad we can support each other.

Thanks chinaski and super. Im glad to be here. Super, way to go on day 10.

Ladybug, I echo what you said about being sick of this cycle, of feeling bad in everyway. Its time to remove this albatross. I was having a few good days, till yesterday, I got all jacked up over stupid stuff, and let myself drink. And drink, and drink some more. I cant wait till this poison is out of my system. Couldnt wait to drink yesterday, now I cant wait to be sober. Counting down the hours, mins. I should be alcohol free by 7 pm. Yep, it was an all day binge yesterday, unfortunately.

Hi safeandsound, congrats on Day 8! I will be exactly 1 week sober next week on my daughter's 6th bd and I am using that as my motivation to get through the horrible first week. Days 3 or 4 seem to be days I cave, but not this time.

safeandsound. thats awesome that you are feeling like SOS is a good fit. unfortunately where i am , there doesn't seem to be any other groups besides AA. like you said, not knocking it, but i don't know how good a fit AA is for me ... i did go to a meeting and I'm glad i did. if I'm struggling id def go again

Hi Januarians

Wet morning here but warm.

Been away for work, came home late last night caught up with all the posts but was too tired to respond.

BeerBGone and Kittycat3 hope you're feeling better. Chocolate does wonders.

AV hit me a few times yesterday, you know the old one of, "Just ONE isn't going to hurt".

Wish AV would give up. Alcohol hasn't done me any favours.

Woke up this morning with a 'hangover', till i realised it was from a lack of sleep from not drinking. Got a big day at work again today, have a hour drive to a country town to negotiate new jobs. Early to bed tonight.

Got to run.

Have a great sober day everyone!

JS
