Thanks! I probably should have clarified; it's not being sober that isn't all that great, it's the feelings (physical, psychological, emotional, etc.) that come with it. Fortunately, when I made a thread before going to detox, several folks told me to have a plan. That was stellar advice and I prepared for this as best as I could. Doctors and counselors have helped a lot too.

I know what you mean, Zeebs, at least with the early physical detox, you feel better by one week. The ups and downs that follow are part of the healing process and can be challenging at times. Just remember, it is a temporary phase and you must go through it to emerge on the other side.

Lots of exercising today. Add my morning yoga practice to all you cardio and gym goers. I haven't been practicing since I stopped teaching in December... trying to let my body heal from over teaching and a lot of injuries last and this year. Just a 45 minute session doing whatever I felt like. Gosh I'm so weak from not doing it. My plan is to do something on the mat at least 4 times a week before work. Hold me to that!

Good day at training. Fun but utter chaos... no one knows what the heck we're doing lol. And they're firing people already for being late, missing the meeting last nigh, not being able to stay past 3 (which is what the schedule said)... cut throat. Me? I'm a goody 2 shoes. Plan on being an hour early. That's mostly due to the bus schedule though .

Hi to the new peeps. I'm not good like Nic about a personal shout out unless it's on the same page I am so sorry about that. My focus isn't all the way back. I did read the past few pages though.

SH I think you're trying to quit smoking? Please do. My mother died of lung cancer like your father. My Aunt has empasema and one of my Uncles died of that too. It was a horribly painful way to go. Both.

Lulu I'm sure the interview went better than you think. I'm glad you're not going to drink.

Withdrawals for a month Zeebs? I hope I'm through mine. I'm glad detox helped some at least.

So I worked all day...on my feet. I'm not used to that, and learning new things is making my head want to explode (in a good way if there's such a thing). I just wanted to chill and listen to some music with earphones on, check email etc on the bed and relax. The bf comes in to hug me... nice right? Yes, until he asked if I finished the deer. WTF! Come on! Let me rest! No, there are 2 hind quarters out there and the ribs. I asked if he expected me to hurry out there to finish breaking it down...and his hesitation suggested yes. So, I huffed out to put on my hiking boots and old jacket with deer bits on it already and flung the garage door open strongly. It got stuck and a little mad, he tried sending me back in but I was like, no way. I'm out here now and I have a knife and the bone saw so get out of my way. I cut off the ribs, he took the quarters down and inside while I trimmed some neck meat. Until the knife slipped and cut 2 of my fingers. That was is for me. Now I'm in here with you under medical leave lol.

Apologies to any vegans or vegetarians. Just describing my day. I was a vegetarian for about 15 years, went back to a little meat but mostly veg... then I was vegan, then raw vegan until I started dating a hunter. Too much excitement here to consider drinking .

Just checking in to stay accountable. Last Monday, I was already wasted by this point. I'm not drinking tonight.

I think I need to buck up and find a therapist. I feel like I have my issues as corralled as they can be but I'm not really able to solve them all on my own. But that's scary / expensive / time consuming / etc so I'm putting it off.

I have considered a therapist as well. I need to get moving on it. I'm not sure of low-cost therapy, and I don't have insurance for it.

JL, sorry to hear about the sledding injuries. I hope you are healing up.

Benice, sorry to hear you are back on Day 1. I hope it is the last one for you!

Thump, sorry to hear about your hip. I used to feel so sorry for people who have chronic pain. Now I am one too. Growing older sucks.

Your post about oxy reminded me that I had a Xanax dream last night. In the dream, I was being prescribed them by a dentist, and knew I shouldn’t do it, but I took the bottle of pills with me. I’ve never been on Xanax in my life!

ChickChick, I love naps! I think it is wrong that only children get them. Everyone should siesta, IMO. The world would be a better place. Good job on using SMART.

Lulu, sorry to hear that the interview did not feel good. If you do not get this job, another will come along.

Dickenson, congrats on Day 14! Thanks for the quit smoking tip. I did pretty good today. Found a cig in the car and smoked it in about two minutes flat. LOL. I’m giving myself a break about it.

Jim, your brain will heal!

Odelle, thanks for the kind words and the link. Nicotine is a mean addiction, but my lungs already feel better just not smoking today. When spring comes, I really want to be able to breathe, to suck in all that fresh air and be able to smell the flowers. This fall, I planted a bunch of early-blooming bulbs, helter skelter, in our lawn. I cannot wait to see what they look like.

Lisa, congrats on Day 9. I am glad exercise is helping you feel better. I really want to join ya’ll on the exercise train. Maybe after a few more days letting my lungs recover. Today, I took my dogs for a nice, long walk. It felt really good.

Zeebs, congrats on Day 12. It seems to me that coming up on the two-week mark, a lot of people struggle. It does get better!

Gypsy, sorry to hear about your finger. I live in hunting country but have never done it. I think there is something honest and clean about it. Buying packaged meat from the store is too easy, and it just is not real to me that it used to be an animal. There is something wrong with that. Besides, venison is healthy, and the deer did not live in torture.

The noon meeting was excellent. I am hoping that the Alanon meeting is good too.

I bought a big ham bone from Honey Baked Ham this morning, a real treat. I made a nice pot of beans, and took the ham out to cool off so I could cut the meat off it. My dang dog stole it!

I owe my agnostica sponsor an email. She is really neat, from the UK but living in Denver. She’s a left-wing liberal, who loves to talk politics, and we share a couple other things: We both love to hate the Catholic church (the institution, not the people or the pope). We both think AA’s Big Book is deeply misogynist. On top of that, she has been married almost as long as I have. That’s cool. I am excited to work with her.

I got very little done in the house. I wish I could invite Nic over since she’s on a cleaning jag – LOL.

Keep it up, class! We are trudging the road to happy destiny.

There must be some sliding scale counselors out there Thump? I was going to one for other issues a while back. It was so reasonable I couldn't justify NOT going at the time.

I can't even afford the super reduced rate now though so that's off the table for me.

Nah Gypsy, I meant I was going through bad withdrawals since October but was drinking when I woke up (if I slept) to keep it somewhat at bay. Most of that is gone now, mainly nightmares and armpits sweating like a fountain. Don't expect that to go away anytime soon.

I've just been trying to work my issues myself, but although I got off to a good start, I don't feel like my own efforts are getting as much traction as they were.

I'll definitely look into the option you mentioned.

Gosh, I can't wait unto my next group, Thursday night.

Welcome back Tnt44. I waited 6 months to take it seriously again. I was waiting until I got "into the zone" to try again. Of course I kept putting it off. I just started reading more and more on here. The more I read, the more I was interested in people's progress. It was only yesterday that I FINALLY joined a class. It's excellent that you posted here and the people here will make you feel better. Let's start our new lives!

Sunflower - my husband too doesn't really understand. Just don't drink so much!!! He is definitely happy when I am sober, but he doesn't understand the hold alcohol has on me. And certainly has NO idea how much I drink in private. Although, he has more than seen the consequences. I haven't spoken to him yet about my plan. He comes up with different plans like no alcohol in the house, or only drink til 9pm etc. I just want a few days behind me so I can get my mind around it all. He will be supportive but he won't understand that alcohol is off the table for good!
I'm jumping the gun a bit it's only day 2!! For today I will not drink!
Gotta go to work.
Take care all

SandyO - Are we so good at hiding our solitary drinking and the evidence that it's no wonder our DH's don't get it? I think so in my case.
Glad your DH will be supportive. Good for you on day 2!

Tnt44, welcome aboard. There are many repeat relapsers in this group, so you’ll fit right end. The common goal, end this abuse, permanently!

Nic, crazy that dry-drunk hangover, huh? Don’t worry, it usually lasts only a day, but it may reoccur periodically over the next couple of months. I think this is what is referred to as a healing crisis.

SH, you sound good today, I’m glad your program is working for you!

I hope everyone else is doing well today. Any day sober is a day well done!

Strongbird and Thumpalumpacus I'm in the same boat re therapy, if we can deal with our underlying issues I think we will all be much stronger. I wonder why I hesitate so much to do the things that will help me the most....

Silly Human walking is fantastic exercise, acknowledge to yourself that your are already exercising!

Gypsy tears there is a youtube comedy series called Namaste B's (insert word for female dog) Its very funny and irreverent about yoga teaching.

Welcome Tnt and everyone else.

At the gym a female instructor said hi and that she had noticed I am there almost every day and how well I am doing , like it was a good thing, and not like i'm a total loser. Oh my goodness, it is a good thing.... The silly things I tell myself....
