Good morning, friends. Did you see the 60 Minutes piece on the new Drug Czar? AMAZING story! The guy is one of us, and he talks about the stigma associated with being in recovery. He is also a gay man, and he said in the past 17 years, it has been easier to tell people he is gay than it has been saying he is in recovery. REALLY??? I know it is true. I tried to be open with a few close friends , and I became the "whisper about" person, and my ladies Bible study group would treat me like I was some fragile flower.

Fragile flower??? Heck, I'm stronger than many of them. ANYBODY who does what we do on a daily basis is a super hero! Am I right?

Oh my word, it was soooo cool to hear this man talk about our disorder and orders treatment instead of imprisonment. Also, what other disease/disorder do they order only counseling/AA? Yes, we need the community and the counseling of others, BUT it is a biochemical issue, too, and it needs biological intervention as well. Imagine a cancer patient being sent to counseling and their support group, but not treated physically for the cancer. Yeah, it is like that and this guy gets it and he is the new leader of how this is handled in the US. I'm thrilled!

If you didn't catch it, google it. When he talks about getting into recovery, it is moving. Truly moving. So grateful for this man and for being a champion for us and all those joining our ranks.

It will be something special. No raisins though. I was worried about the raisin cake yesterday since people either love or hate raisins, but the cake looked tasty.
