Glad you liked it and that I helped in some way. As I sit here and think about it I have known for quite sometime (years) that sobriety was what I was after. It just took a lot more time and understanding than initially anticipated.

Haha! We are trying our best to keep it clean since we will be paying for it for the next five years. First thing I told my wife to do was throw a large blanket down over the back seats. Those car seats alone mess them up.

I LOVE steamed dumplings Phoebe. Is that what you make? I've never attempted them as my husband and DD won't eat them. I will be doing a nice antipasto platter with meats, veggies, cheeses, fruits and olives. Spinach dip is always popular here and my family has to have Brie, no matter what. Bruschetta is also big. So many options for small plates.

I've used both ground turkey, or ground pork. Pork would be more traditional. I was initially taught by Chinese moms from ds's preschool. We have a very large Chinese community in town, a Chinese school, and lots of culture related to it. We made our won wrappers that day, and I did that once. But I now use purchases wrappers. Nasoya makes them, Round or square work just fine.

Sounds wonderful! We are usually just "us" on Christmas Eve. It used to be my family, but since my parents have died, my brother and I get together sometime between Christmas and New Year's. But, anyway, on Christmas Eve, we do appetizer dinner. The kids and I make mock-tails with seltzer and fruit slices, and we have crudites, shrimp cocktail, pigs in a blanket, and such. Last year, I went all out and fried popcorn chicken for the kids, and made french fries.

Back to my brother. Last year, we went to his home a few days after Christmas. He has a few older girls, the youngest is the same age as my oldest. Their kids are not very engaging to my(younger) kids. And, my brother drank so heavily, that even I, having drank alcoholically in my life, was very, very uncomfortable. We have yet to hear from them. And we only get together this one time every year, since my dad died. It seems it is my turn to reach out. I don't want to. It sounds sad, but my kids were uncomfortable. The puppy complicates things. They would welcome him, but he gets carsick. It's an hour drive. Their dog is old, and limits them. But, it is their turn to come here. Since we now have a dog, we could welcome theirs. That would allow them to travel for the day . But, you all get that it's complicated!

I am much more comfy if they come here. My house, and all.

I've never had that type dumplings. The version down here is decidedly different for sure. Good though if done right.

Little one got back a bit ago from basketball practice and I sent her straight away to shower while her mom got dinner. So what did she put on after her shower? The same sweaty tee she had worn at practice! I would have expected that from a boy,.....but my princess? WTH???

So with today's positive vibe from the team and the amusement provided by my daughter I am off to slumber and dream of far away places....nite all.

I hope that it works out okay, phoebe.

Will your brother drink heavily while he is a guest in your home?

LOL, Mark, now that is just sexist! Why do boys get to be grungy more than girls?? But, true, that is exactly what my son would do! I have to police his attire after he showers, lol. And, I find way too few undies in the laundry, and nag at both kids bout that! My daughter is a grunge girl. Totally into athletic garb, and not at all girly. No pierced ears, never mind anything else. But, both my kids need way to much policing of their bathing habits. Ugh.

No Chinese restaurants there, Mark? They would have dumplings. But the ones that are homemade are much lighter on dough, and better on filling. They can be steamed or fried. Mine are both. I steam then with a bit of olive oil, so as the water evaporates, they fry a bit. But much lighter than the restaurant versions.

Teenagers are in a world of their own. Their bodies are going through so much change that I think that their brains go wonky for a bit.

Less so than he did in his home. I will not have the smoky scotch he was having. Just hubby's beer selection, but he does roll in with his own cooler of beer. Who does that?? He does. His wife or older dd drives.

Even when actively drinking, his drinking has made me squirm.

Caching up on posts and yall are making me hungry! And I don't know how because we're still working on lasagna and cake leftovers.
The house is clear of guests, nice and quiet night here.

Here's my favorite holiday cookie site. The chocolate crinkles are amazing and super easy!

Yep, a bit sexist. I thought girls always breezed about smelling of jasmine on a spring day! Us guys are the stinky ones?!

I'm glad that you'll be on your turf for the gathering phoebe. When I see folks on tv that are beyond plastered it really bothers me. I don't like to see it. Maybe he'll eat more/drink less.

We've got plenty of Chinese restaurants around, I'm just never more adventurous than fried rice and sesame chicken. It's all too salty for me though. The way you described preparing your dumplings sounds really good....not sure that's what I'd get if I ordered them here. Varies I guess.

Gotta hit the ground running today....best to all and happy Tuesday.

Nice to hear from you Mrs. Cowboy! The cookie link looks great! I've bookmarked it.

Here is what my dumplings look like:

Update on my mixer troubles: They are sending replacements for the bowl and attachments, and gave me the choice of sending everything back. The customer service was excellent at Everything Kitchens, where I ordered it. Lets hope these items are clean of that stubborn residue.

Yes Phoebe. Dumplings look great! Would like that recipe when you get a chance. It's nice to have different options.

That's a shame about your brother. Hopefully things will be different this year since he's at your house. Looking back drinking on holiday is so silly. I couldn't possibly enjoy it with all that consumption. What a waste of precious time off. The American tradition of alcohol/holidays. Ugh...I see it now as no celebration.
