Good morning, Undies!

16 months for me today - woohoo! I had despaired of ever getting this far. As far as I can tell, brain fog is totally gone :-)

Sas congrats on 16 months!
Quick check in before womp.

I went to a meeting yesterday morning and talked with one person after. I think I'll be trying to go back to that one regularly.

That sounds good, BFree! I know just how difficult this journey can be and I needed all the help I could find. The result is most definitely worthwhile :-)

Just saying hey. Have had a hectic work schedule so haven't been posting much but I just read through the thread and am so thankful this message board exists. I was just thinking--why can't there just be a meeting for people not doing the 12 steps to just share and support each other--then I thought oh yeah. SR.....:-) Gotta go get ready for work, Susan.

Hi undies

BoozeFree - I'm glad you're back. It's really encouraging to read that you're seeking additional support, so that you don't keep circling back to drinking.

Petals - It's so nice to see you here. Thanks for checking in. Acceptance is powerful. Let us know how it's going.

WWS - I love your perspective of making sobriety your top priority! You are just thriving in sobriety and I love hearing about the ways you're making life more peaceful.

KIR - Alcoholism and addiction are powerful. I think that addiction had me in its grips every time I drank after I promised I wouldn't, every time I rationalized that my drinking was no different than anyone else's, every time I told myself I deserved a break, or when I said I could stop if I wanted to. The fact for me, though, was that ultimately one drink was never enough, and my alcoholism progressed. It's ironic that something I first turned to it to soothe my problems ended up creating them without me realizing it. Looking back today I can see that alcohol was the common denominator in so many challenging situations in my life. There are some things that are obvious - like a fall or a DUI - but there are other things that it's taken me nearly two years to realize some of the smaller ways alcohol adversely affected my life.

Key - Hugs! I so get where you're coming from. Quitting drinking opened a can of worms in so many different areas of my life that I had been happy to keep hidden while I drank. It took me a long time to decide what I would and wouldn't tolerate after I stopped drinking, and what I was willing to change about myself.

It took me a while to get to Al Anon. I was over a year sober before I went to my first meeting. The chapter that I attend happens to have a lot of AA members in it, double winners, and the lessons there have played an integral role in my recovery, and have brought me tremendous clarity and peace. For me, Al Anon is where everything I heard about in AA clicked. The Friends and Family side of SR has played a significant role in my recovery as well.

Blue Fairy- I'm glad all is well and that you're finding some support here. I know I relied on Toots, Saskia, Carlos and all the other undies to listen when I was under a year sober.

There are as many different ways to recover as there are people! Keep sharing! Have a nice night!!

I don't think I would have made it this far without SR!

KIR, congrats. I remember being told that it gets easier. Well, not only did it get easier...it just keeps getting better.

BF, glad you found a meeting you like. Keep coming back.

Glee, I simply love the way you are working recovery. I'm certain that those promises and rewards are pouring in. Thanks for sharing the ride!

WWS, cool post about progress and lessening of the fog. Good stuff! I remember thinking about not much to report and not really understanding that concept. I felt lost and a great loss without chaos in my life. My alkie fog had convinced me that I did my best under pressure. BUNK, life in the middle lane has sooo many rewards in and of itself. I only knew high or low for so long that peace and serenity were foreign concepts. Not any more - the middle is my new high.

BF2 (Blue Fairy), yes, I agree, SR is a wonderful place to witness the miracle happening in a variety of ways, shapes and sizes. While I only realized it in retrospect...turning "I" into "WE" in this fight was such a blessing - and relief.

My best to all. Let's have a wonderful sober day - okay?

Carlos

Hey all!
Congratulations to Saskia on 16 months. A great achievement! I've just had a couple of days off and have been a little out of touch so just catching up with all you guys now. I was writing Christmas cards earlier and thought it was a shame that I could send a few to some of you guys on SR, but I'll just say hi from here.

All the best,
Adrian

KIR - Congrats on 30 days!!

Saskia - Way to go on 16 months.

Key - I hope you're doing well.

Amp - Merry Christmas!!

Site - You make a really good point about the way life presents itself in sobriety. I was surprised, shocked even, by my sober perspective on things. I expected that when I stopped drinking I'd lose a few pounds, get in good shape, and go on living the life I'd always lived. That's not the way my sobriety turned out for me. I gained weight, lost my job, and was unable to exercise regularly due to joint pain. I didn't know how to relate to family and friends. I was rankled that my sobriety didn't go as I had expected. There is a lot to learn from this. Sobriety and recovery give me the tools I need to walk through these lessons.

Carlos and I realized somewhere along the recovery path that we may have been separated at birth. Lol. I, too, felt lost without chaos created by my "alcoholic" choices. I refer to my overall toxic, messed up thinking that underlies my drinking. Without being fired up about something, I didn't know what to talk about with people. I found myself at parties standing there with nothing to say, while everyone wondered why I was suddenly so quiet.

The good news is that I don't feel awkward at parties anymore. Lol. I also don't feel fired up all that often anymore either. Life in the middle lane!

Hello everyone,

Just checking in to prove I'm still here and accountable to you all.

KIR - Well done on 30 days. That is massive. They were the toughest by far for me.

Saskia - congratulations. My admiration for you continues to grow !

I passed six months on Monday.

Still ridiculously tired, but otherwise solidly sober and a better man all round for this.

Go well

Fradley

Good job Fradley!

All this talk of life in the middle lane strikes a chord here too. None of the artificial euphoria that drinking would occasionally bring but also none of the lows and anxiety and hangovers that were such a constant for the old me. It is liberating in the extreme to live life on life's terms.

Have a good day, all!
