Thanks blondsober. I need a good night because if I am tired and stressed I tend to be at my weakest. However, now I have you all to cheer me on and keep me accountable so I will stay the course and hopefully get to bed early!

That's part of all this exercising I've been doing, getting up early and going to bed early means (a) I am tired so no time to drink and (b) more generally, just no time to drink.

Greetings to all classmates from Tuesday morning. Heading into a new month....Christmas not my favourite time of the year and has usually led to crazy drinking. Not this year.....just keep a good distance from it and cruise through into the New Year. Sober.

Family relationships have always been fairly distant and fractured so there's not that side of Christmas to be 'celebrated'....don't like the relentless commercial side of it either. Look forward to the time off from work, just treat the whole thing as an opportunity for rest and retreat this year.

Okay.....this has grown to be a huge class, I guess Dee will shift us over into the daily thread sometime in the next 24 hours. Following you all here and sure we can all finish out the Class of November sober and optimistic. Let's go out on a (natural) high....

All the best and thanks to you all for this group. See you all in the new thread.

I woke up shaky and anxious, probably overwhelmed with all the things I have to do this week. But no signs of depression so far today. I had a good night, that always helps

It helps me so much to come here and read the posts. Thank you so much for all the support.

Checking in on Day 15!

I think I am going to be fretting all week about my upcoming work Christmas party this Saturday. I don't think I will know how I want to handle it until Saturday. In the end I may just skip it. Which is ultimately the safest option. But I kind of want to go.

The last time I gave a somewhat serious attempt at kicking the wine habit (this past summer) I lasted 19 days. Ironically, this Saturday will be my Day 20. I have been waiting and waiting to reach Day 20 this time. Which is a great incentive to hold strong through this weekend, party or no party.

But wow, I cant stop thinking about this and I think I am making it into some big freaking dilemma in my head; it is only a party. There will be another one next year. I may drive myself crazy by the weekend.

Hi Pams, thank you for sharing your mixed feelings about the holiday party. It is clear from your post that if you attend the party you will put your sobriety in jeopardy. Is that something you are willing to risk? If you didn't go, what would you miss out on? A bunch of people getting drunk? That doesn't sound very exciting....

You can always use an excuse: a family emergency, you got sick, etc. then on Monday you'll get the low-down on who was a drunk mess at the party - and it won't be you!

Can you create a plan that will allow you to go and enjoy the event? For a drink you could try seltzer with cranberry. This looks like a cocktail but isn't. Or maybe instead of focusing on drinking you could focus on eating. Most holiday parties have a good spread. How about using the event as an experiment...the sober you studying your counterparts and their behavior as the event rolls on and more and more alcohol is consumed. Or how about being designated driver for your friends? Just trying to think of some ways you can go, stay sober, and still enjoy the event.

Thanks SwimKim. The part that I will feel badly about, and am struggling with is putting my husband in the position that he has to lie for me. We work at the same place, he is going, and will be questioned about why I am not there. *shrug*

Day 11.
I'm starting to feel much better and getting over my sinus headache. My AV tried to use my severe headache as an excuse to drink, but I knew better and happy I didn't give in. Never really came close, but the fact it was so strong after largely being gone is just a reminder I can't rest for a second. Work is stressful, but I got this!

Much love,
Nolan

Yes. I have been thinking of many different alternatives if I attend the event. Declaring myself designated driver is at the top of the list. There are a million different things that I can drink that look like a cocktail. I have also thought about a time limit to stay. Like 3 hours. I am pretty confident that I can commit to three hours and not mess up. If I have to, THAT is when my sudden illness happens and I have to go home.

Hi Pams, have you discussed the party with your husband yet? Perhaps he would be okay telling people you weren't feeling well and weren't really up to the party? (If you haven't already), can you let him know how important your sobriety is and how badly you want those 20 days?

Good to see you too, Noolan !
Been cutting back more and more instead of failed attempts at cold turkey. I'm done hopefully.
Got a better plan than before. - don't die from being a drunk.

My husband is a great supporter, but this will be one of his few times a year he will be drinking. He might get goofy. I know one of our employees wife is pregnant...I could hang with her....she wont be drinking.

No. I haven't discussed anything about the party with him yet. But I will.

I think the bottom line is that I am really terrified about the whole thing. Kind of like a fear of the unknown sort of thing.
