I am feeling better! Thanks for your pep talk & advice guys! As soon as I posted here, I forced myself to take my dog for a brisk walk & then made a snack and called my sponsor. :-)

I'm gonna just relax for the rest of the night & be try kind to myself. I'm good at being nice to other people but not too great at being nice to myself. :-/

Me too! I thought I would lose 5-10lbs not drinking but I'm 2 weeks in and I think I've probably only gained. :/ guess I'm going to have to work harder than I thought. I might challenge myself to seeing how much I can lose in December by just eating cleaner and watching portions. Starting Monday.

Be proud that you didn't pick up that drink, Kiki! I knew you could do it

And GoldenSands, my jeans don't fit me anymore either...but as long as the alcohol calories are off the table it can hopefully only get better for all of us. I'm working out again, but I guess nothing goes fast enough for people like us - used to the instant gratification of a buzz. Well, as long as we are healthy! This can only get better!

Wow! Reading people's posts shows common threads. We are beginners and seen to struggle with many of the same things. Does anyone know if there are phases to our recovery?

I've got my husband on my side. He ordered me a diet coke before I could even say anything. In retrospect I probably should have just stayed home. Will next time. AV was hitting hard on the way here but it's passed after I ate.

I'm glad - congrats BBF

I know it's hard to miss out on things, but I look back and I figure I missed out on way more things because I was drinking.

Hey Kiki, I was feeling somewhat the same as you earlier so I forced myself out of the house and ran a few errands, came home and made a big pot of pasta fagioli soup and garlic breadsticks. I picked up a couple bags of candy just in case cravings kick in.

Each day, getting on the scale, I am relieved to not be gaining weight what with all the Thanksgiving food and leftovers. I really need to start exercising though; I need to shed 20 pounds. I have a closet full of clothes that I can’t fit into!

I know I did a lot of damage to myself over the past year and have to be patient and let the healing progress at its own pace. I developed indigestion during that period, something I never experienced before. I hope it isn’t going to be a permanent reminder.

I hope everyone’s evening (or morning) is stress free and relaxing. Hugs to all!

Made it through the day. Getting ready to do some reading and have a cup of tea. I reached out today and asked for help with my drinking, in a big way. And I have found help, in a big way. I am grateful for this thread. I also attended an AA meeting (not sure if I am supposed to bring that up here?). My first meeting ever and it was really, really good. I won't talk about that in this thread, but I did want to say that reaching out for help has been impossible (or maybe I wasn't really serious, or maybe I thought I could do this by myself, or whatever myriad reasons I just didn't or couldn't ask for help). I think it will save my life. I am exhausted but hopeful.

I didn't drink but I ate a HUGE bowl of leftover mashed potatoes & gravy from Thanksgiving, a sub and chips & salsa! Now I need desert! Haha

I have a free iPhone App called RECOVERY ELEVATOR that calculates how long since my last drink, drinks not consumed, how much money I have saved and how many calories saved.

Here are the results for 13 days!!!
Sober days: 13.75
Drinks not consumed: 53
Money saved: $342.04
Calories saved: 5,248

Welcome Deniselarkin, this class is great, lots of people at various lengths of sobriety. I passed the time of the first couple of days reading through the posts and picked up a lot of useful information.

Don't forget to read the part about one of our classmates donating several thousand dollars to each of us. It's somewhere in the last 75 posts.
