Hi everyone-

3rd attempt and 3rd month I've joined. I went 32 days in August and since then Ive just had a hard time stringing more than a couple of weeks together. I havent had any disasters (yet) but given my past experiences they will come if I keep drinking.

I was out of work for a while and FINALLY got a new job- there will be travel and business dinners so I need to get it under control (stopped) before they really kick in so I make an ass of myself in front of clients.

3rd time is a charm and I am on day 3 for the LAST TIME. We can do this..

Count me in

I'm on day seven, but wasn't sure I really wanted to stop this time until now. It feels like the right choice at the right time!

Welcome all of you at the beginning of your sobriety! I am in the August 2015 class (stopped on August 2, so today I have three sober months.)

You can do this! You will find lots of help and support here -- any time you feel weak, post here instead, and someone will talk you through it. The early days can be difficult, but you can get through them!

I'd also recommend the 24-hour support thread (posting there every day helps me stay committed) and the Tuesday and Friday chat meetings.

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...part-85-a.html

Also, here is a post about "urge surfing" -- a technique that can help with cravings.

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...e-surfing.html

"If you're reading these words, perhaps it's because something has kicked open the door for you, and you're ready to embrace change. It isn't enough to appreciate change from afar, or only in the abstract, or as something that can happen to other people but not to you. We need to create change for ourselves, in a workable way, as part of our everyday lives." -- Sharon Salzberg

I had 3 weeks in October but blew it on Halloween. =( so not worth it. I ended up missing out on all the Halloween fun and ended up at the bar gambling . Lost $800. I was so depressed yesterday I thought about drinking away my hangover like my husband did. But seeing how I can't go back and change anything, I decided to make November 1st my new day 1.
So here I am.
Day 2.

Sending Blessings <3

Day 2- still feeling weak physically even though I slept great. Probably the infamous 2 day hangover. I have meds if I need them and lots of reading to do today.
I'm supposed to be off work all week - but we'll see if that works out. I hope so because I really want to focus on getting better this week and avoid excessive stress. I'll have enough of that down the road.

So here I am, AGAIN, trying day 1. We still had 2 beers left in the fridge from Halloween, and I OF COURSE had to drink them while I made dinner last night, and fast enough so that I got a buzz. I swear, it was like they were screaming at me to drink them...my mind just wouldn't shut the hell up about it, so I broke down and drank them. I have no idea why I allowed myself to buy the alcohol in the first place. That stupid thinking of, "Oh, you can have one or two. You've given yourself a break, you deserve a little fun on Halloween...", blah, blah. I guess I still think that I can drink normally one day, knowing full well that if I have one then I'll want another, then another, and so the cycle begins. I'm beginning to realize that I'm probably going to have to give up alcohol forever, because I AM an alcoholic, and I CANNOT just drink one or two. Ugh. I have this hope inside, though, that I will be able to get through this. I realize I need to make a solid plan to avoid being able to think that I should buy some beer, because hey, it's better that wine! (not) Luckily I'm pretty busy today, and I have a class for work tonight, so I can't even be tempted to drink, but tomorrow's another day....will be on here a lot trying to distract myself and keep focused.

Ambuler, I have been thinking exactly the same way. I have a really hard time to accept that one or two is not an option for me either. And I know, once or twice I might pull it off, but it's really russian roulette. There is no telling which decision I will make after starting getting buzzed...it's increadibly hard to stop after two, and usually, I just continue.

Well, I am now on day 6 and feeling completely exhausted. I am sleeping better but I have no energy and feel weak. I am trying to eat well and have some exercise but today I am just crushed. Hopefully it's just a dip.

Count me in. I had yet another appalling day yesterday which included narrowly avoiding getting arrested, drink driving and sex with a stranger. I have a therapy session tomorrow where I will be telling my counsellor exactly what's going on (I've not told her about my drinking) and am hopeful that this time I'll have the strength to see this thing through. I actually can't afford to hit rock bottom. I need to stop before I get there.

OK, I'm going to join in too. I was originally in November 2014 and still keep checking in there but, as I just broke my latest run after a week, I'm making it yet another Day 1. I managed over 7 months from last November up to May this year but then made the mistake of thinking I could be like a 'normal' person. I should know by now. Anyway, on my journey starting last November, I came across many pearls of wisdom, the most inspiring of which was the very simple, 'No-one ever regretted not drinking' - that wasn't mine; I found it on Nov '14. So now it's that plus my 90-day-no-surrender plan - another interesting piece of wisdom I found on the site last year was that it takes 90 days to break any kind of habit, so that's what I'm doing. I did do that last year and it amazed me by getting so much easier as the days were chalked off. Nice to meet all these new classmates. Here goes.

I've been away so I'll just jump in here - glad to see so many in this thread already
I had many many MANY day ones - with each one, I think I moved closer and closer to never wanting to drink again - and being willing to do everything in my power not to - and one day in 07 the day 1 stuck.

don't give up hope

Pixie, nice to see you again - I was also in class of november 14!

Long story short: Good times, bad times, worse times...time to start over. Better to come back than giving up!

Day 2! Went to the gym for a bit - haven't been eating much the past week do to a sport injury..wiped out on ice and needed stitches on my mouth...anyhoo, finally back into a rhythm hopefully. Made the most delicious chicken pot pie soup, sipping tea, and marking student assignments with music... enjoy your Monday evening!

Sounds great, Soulpower! I also find that exercise really helps me to stay motivated.

I am cutting myself some slack these early days and give myself only two obligations:

1. No matter what happens, do not drink.
2. Go to the gym, no excuses.
