I have always wondered what the woman in Leigh's avatar is carrying.

Hope you have a nice evening Mark. ♥

It's called Sunshine Umbrella.

I chose it because it appears the woman is either (a) walking away from a storm and no longer needs her umbrella or (b) is leaving behind a darkness and walking towards a brightness so intense she needs to put up her umbrella. Either way, it appears that she is walking in the right direction.

It reminded me of what happens in recovery.

The picture, in full size, looks quite different; I liked it in miniature form (as it was when I found it) as it makes you wonder.

I'll try to find the larger version; the woman in the picture is likely a teenager.

Oh thank you!!!!

And I love your interpretation Leigh....to me it seems that she is putting away the umbrella as she no longer needs it...she is walking into the sunshine of her life.

Very nice Leigh! In the miniature shot I hadn't figured out that it was an umbrella....now I can see it. I had thought she was throwing off a jacket or something she didn't need anymore. I like all the interpretations.

Nice Leigh. Thanks for the interpretation. I always liked your avatar. Smaller it looks old timey. I thought maybe she was swooshing her dress or something. Or she was holding a sheet flapping away in the breeze. Anyway you look at it the best part is it strikes imagination.

I just may continue to change mine up often like Briar. Whatever strikes a chord...

Someone once asked me if the woman was swinging a child.

Love it, Leigh! It's certainly a happy picture.
(Sometimes my happy face gets on my nerves. Lol. I made need to change it up...)

Company coming over so I need to be quick, but I can't leave yall for the night without commenting on Briar's post. So much of my recovery efforts stem from fear... Fear of illness, fear of losing all the good things and people in my life. I let go of the fear about a month ago and slipped. I recognize it and use it now as another tool in the toolkit. If that's what keeps me moving closer to my goals, then I'll embrace that healthy fear.... Just my two little cents.

The jewelry is pretty Phoebe. That's something I have not done. I used to do a lot of needlepoint, crewel and counted cross stitch but have not in a long time. I am burning one of my candles at the moment and just cut a batch of kitchen soap-citrus and pine and put a batch of lavender to bed-it's all wrapped up in a quilt for the night. Often smells great in here.

When my DD got bigger she only came to our bed when she needed comforting and she would move so much her Dad would leave and get in her bed.

Y'all are a talented bunch. You ladies can make so much through crafting and Arbor's musical talent.

Anyone around here remember the macrame' wall hangings of the 70s?

No smacking the smiley please. I quite like it.

I remember macramé; there was a macramé owl that used to hang in my parent's house.

I think that once we start to get our sober perspective it's to be expected that we recoil a bit when we see our former selves in the light of sobriety. The contrast is stark for me and I'm frankly repulsed by some of my past. It haunts me at times but I try to remember the phrase "look back but don't stare". And like Conquest said we can frame the past as a tool to keep us walking in the right direction.

I shake my head in disbelief sometimes when I think about my alcoholic time. One good thing about each day of our sober 'present' is that it soon becomes part of the past - a past we can be proud of.

Yes. I like the "soon" part cause it's true. It doesn't take long. I've already collected a ton of sober memories. One of my fondest was Christmas sober for the first time. I still think back to being here with ya'll and the conversations we were having. "I made it! Made it sober through the holidays!" I'm looking forward to that once again.
