Have a wonderful sober Saturday October class! Be strong, fight through the urges and triggers. One minute at a time if you have to. Dee has lots of links to huge toolboxes and if you ask he will gladly point you to where they are. Trust me, they will and do help! ((Hug)) to everybody!

Hi guys, I'm not new to this site. I've tried recovery off and on for the last year or so. I did a few weeks earlier this year. It always gradually creeps back though. I would like to try again, if you guys will have me, I'd love to join in here?

Just checking in, I've had a crazy busy week and then woke up yesterday morning with an awful cold/flu - whatever it is. I couldn't call out of work so I had a miserable day. Feeling a little better today but not 100% I was planning on starting an exercise and diet plan commitment yesterday but it's just gonna have to wait until I feel better

I often notice that I get sick (though usually not this bad) when I stop drinking. Wonder if there's an explanation for that ?

Glad to see many of you are plugging along. Things are finally settling down for me now that birthdays are over etc, so I'm looking forward to having some time to focus on me and working on myself

Happy sober Saturday. I'm never too confident, even when sick, I can find a way to rationalize drinking.

Find a Meeting

Thanks, Dee. Absolutely right on. It may take some traveling and I believe my Alcoholic Voice was just waiting for a time to pounce.

I talked to a friend who said the meeting moderator should have kept things under control, but he was actually fueling the fire. You see, they are all part of the "Sally" group - they live, or have lived at Salvation Army (quasi-military christian organization in the States, as you probably already know). I I think this is a good organization, but the crew currently living there is pretty rough. And...since this Sally guy heads the Friday meetings, then I will know to find another meeting on Fridays! Problem solved! In fact, the friend I told about this dilemma has invited me to some women's meetings with her.

So good DID come out of it!!!

My theory is we're really battered about as drinkers but the hit of alcohol we get often makes us oblivious to just how beat up we are (that stopped working for me though...).

When we stop drinking that artificial boost is removed and everything hits is full force.

Hope you feel better soon

I'm really glad other options are opening up TL - and yeah we have the 'Salvos' here too

Welcome SansaS! You will find a great group of people in this class.
Looking4 and Dobie...Day 7 for us all!! This will mark the end of a full week. I feel so good about that and I hope you do too!!
Forabetterlife, I have seen that other people have said that they get sick (colds etc) . when they stop drinking. I would say don't worry about diet plan right now. Take care of your body. The diet can follow when you are well.
TL, glad you have a plan for a new meeting! That other one sounded a bit scary.
Last night was a bit strange...went to the cinema with my husband. It was weird to just get popcorn and coke. The weirdest, and I guess hardest part, was walking past the pub on our way out. We both sort of slowed down as we passed lol, but we made it past! After that it was OK.
Looking forward to a nice Saturday. Son's soccer game, then probably getting a few things done around the house, then movie at home with the kids!
Have a great Sober Saturday everyone! We can do this.

Got up early on this Saturday morning to catch up on everyone's posts. This forum is such a shot in the arm. There is so much hope and strength here.

And Dee - kudos to you. You stay so on top of all the posts. I don't know how you do it. But I like that you tell it like it is...no sugar-coating. And you give alternatives, which is also a great help.

In sticking with the good advice of "having a plan" to avoid drinking, my husband and I are going bike-riding this morning, and then to a movie theater tonite - one that serves food! Sunday we will get together with family (some of whom are also recovering), so temptation is not a concern. Plus, I will fit my meetings in.

Have a wonderful weekend, October friends.

Home from my night out. I'm still sober, more by luck than design. Not sure how I feel at present.

I went out at 7 and was home by 10:30. I went to the bar really unsure of what would happen. I knew there was an evens chance that I might drink. I decided to order a water first and see what happened. I then got a bit of bad news by email (annoying bad not serious bad) and I felt like this was to sign to give up and drink, out of spite really. I didn't though. In fact I didn't drink anything else.

We went to another bar and I continued with another water. By now the night was beginning to drag and I was getting tired. Had I been drinking I would have been buzzing at this time, tonight though I was just waiting to get home.

I'm sure I'll feel better tomorrow but I feel a little depressed just now. Tomorrow will be my 50th day and the fact that I didn't drink tonight will make it harder for me to drink again.

Sitting at home as I type binging on chocolate, marshmallows and popcorn.

Have any of you had to do this? If so, how have you explained it? You just need to be alone, make up activities, say you're busy... ?

Enjoy your sober weekend everyone -
Hi 60 and Beyond,

I have had to make a LOT of changes in my life. I used to be an extrovert and would say "yes" to every social invitation that came my way and would get lots of them. Lately I have had to change my whole life around. I have 3 teenage kids who require a lot of my attention. So on my weekends with my kids (my ex has them every other) I have started saying "no" to lots of stuff, just to focus on and be with my kids. It has been a good decision. On the other weekends, when I'm by myself, I have had to really look at the invitation and ask myself, "Is this really what I want to be doing with my precious spare time?" Many times the answer is no, and that what I really want to be doing is resting or hanging out with my dog, or watching a movie on Netflix, or doing an organizing project around my house. Now I'm starting to get fewer social invitations, but this is good. I need the time for ME and giving up alcohol and getting my act together. The social stuff will come back when I'm ready, or maybe I really don't need as much as I thought I did

Midton - I'm happy for you that you did not drink but sorry you're feeling a little down. I hope the boost of having 50 days alchohol free tomorrow cheers you. Glad you posted after the event!

Hi everyone - I'm good! It's Saturday and I love Saturdays!!! Such a relief from the daily grind.

I'm on Day 14!!!

I opted not to do the early morning hot power yoga. Good decision. I needed the extra rest after recovering from my cold. ForABetterLife - I hope you feel better soon. It's cold season and there's a lot going around!

My plan is to work on some projects, relax, take my son to an appointment, and then maybe do the treadmill.

I have two big events coming up: Tomorrow, Oct. 25th is when my Facebook account (that I recently created and have abused by using only when drunk) is gone for good. They make you wait 14 days after you decision to get rid of it for good. And tomorrow is the day. I think it's a milestone and will celebrate getting rid of this albatross in some way (non-alcoholic, of course!)

On Monday the 26th, I have an appointment with a new psychiatrist. I will discuss the idea of using medications to stay sober. It's a big decision for me. I'm doing well, but when I have weak moments like I did on Thursday night, it becomes easy to see me caving into drinking. Things to discuss with the new doctor - on Monday.

Have a wonderful day all - I will be around and checking in!

This is AWESOME!!! First, I'm totally envious of your hike and watching the sun set. That is something I'll never get to do without some serious traveling. And way to be strong with the booze. Great way to end the week!
