If I had my time again I'd be an archaeologist or a naturalist of some sort - collecting rocks and finding fossils. I love investigating the natural world. I love the thought of you, Tops, doing what you love. Perhaps we should all start doing more of what brings us joy whether it makes money or not.

Hope your day goes well too Mariah. Are those boys pulling their weight with the house hold chores yet?

Freein,
I should've said "meager living" ....instead of "decent living"
..... Drinking took all that away. My last commission was
for a local historic black church who needed more stained glass for their addition. I had done the original windows in the sanctuary years before, so I felt morally obligated. That was 11 years ago.
Commissioned windows for these local black churches was more of an honor than anything else. This place is swarming with millionaire retirees in gated communities, but the black population, ...the " locals " ( before the bridge was built in 56 ) ...they are just the opposite. Mostly poor.

Now I work this straight job nights at a time share resort. The upside is the guests are working class . Not sure I could stomach working at some resort like the local Westin. My clients were always pleasant,...many times wonderful people. Some, not so much, but I never thought about it one way or the other since they had the means to keep me working as much as I could.
As usual I kind of overdid it on that front for years,....would work 14-16 hour days for 100 days straight and take a half day off,....madness huh ?
Looking back , I could never have kept that kind of schedule without a passion for the work,....passion for the whole process.

Once the pain ( from the gluten , or wheat intolerence ) got to me with ever increasing boozing,.....I just walked away from it all in 2004. Dark days .

Just to clarify ,...I didn't want to give the impression of work being all hunky doory down here !?! lol

...except the freedom from booze !!! That's major hunky doory !

And figuring out not long ago I had an incredible intolerance to wheat ,..... for f,....
goodness sake.

Mariah, ....I'm curious along with Freein,..... them boyz listenin' ta their momma ?

Howdy Fools,
I'm still here, and didn't mean to be gone so long. I hope everyone is having a good day today.
Mariah, hanging out with that guy sounds like a bad idea, I'm glad you realized it in advance.
Things are good here. I'm starting to get ready for my holiday show season, and am still working on eradicating blackberries from my yard, so there's plenty to keep me busy. I just got back from a trip to Colorado, not long after getting back from visiting my grandmother in Florida, so as usual, I haven't been home much, but I think I'll be here for a solid month before I leave again.
As of last week I've been off of opiates for 18 months, which I feel pretty good about. I keep going back and forth with weed, though, and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Conflicted, I guess...
You Fools are often in my thoughts, even though I haven't been around in a while, I hope you are all well.

Glad to see you here Adna... your missed here. 18 months free of Opiates is awesome!! I was smoking too the last couple of months, but as I mentioned before, that only makes the anxiety worse, & another trigger to drink, I think, so feel the need to be free of both....is great to hit the 30 days today. Must feel good to be home for awhile.

I did talk to my young men about helping me out by cleaning up after themselves & they both say they will so we shall see.

I can see you poking around, exploring in the dirt Freein & think it good to explore those interests. TS...that is a real talent working with the glass & would have been special to see your work in the churches...awesome! My last sponsor has a stained glass bus & does beautiful work. I am not at all artistic that way, but seem to have a talent & enjoy the gardening. I had a counselor ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up ( was 35 at the time) & I told her a Las Vegas dancer & race car driver

Busy, busy days this week...have plan to work on 1st step with temp sponsor tomorrow...will be good to do before I start work Monday...also asked about meeting place in the town I'll be working in & sounds like there is a good one on road I'll be taking home & about the right time, so I can hit that one before I get home, as I know it would be hard to go back out, especially during winter months.

Hi Adna, great to hear you're home for a while. We always miss you when you're travelling.

Tops, are you still doing some stained glass work these days? I can imagine how satisfying it must be to look at a window (especially in a church) and think "I did that". That's quite a legacy.

Mariah, that's a great bonus, having a meeting close to your new job. It's like its all falling in to place perfectly for you!

Obo, is that anything like a Stratocaster? Sounds like you'll be having a great musical weekend, enjoy I wonder if Annie will take to a guitar when she's older?

UP, how's it going?

I have a free Saturday tomorrow, looking forward to a easy day.

I'm in for the Bargain.

Musicians, mad as cheese!

Makes me want to get back to my neglected piano. Maybe I will over the weekend.

Finished work for the week - looking forward to some beans on toast tonight, and tinned pears for afters, it's all in the presentation, there's really nothing to this gourmet malarkey, sprig of parsley on the top, fit for a king!

I love Fridays, it's a cooking free zone.

Hope everyone's had a great end to the week.

Freein,
Booze took that good life away 11 years ago,...

...now I do stuff like rake the yard, burn sticks, and paint the house and stuff. Normal stuff. One day soon will learn how to catch enough fish ,... for a party of 4 !

A guy's gotta dream, !?!

That sounds like a gift of a day, Mariah. These will be lovely memories for your grandson.

Tops, your "normal" day sounds very much like our "normal" day, except for the fishing, my challenge is to grow enough runner beans for a party of four! Unfortunately, we have a "no killing policy" in our garden so it's easy pickings for the resident slugs and snails - they come here for a cheap take away, Friday night's are rowdy!

The task for today is to mend the lawnmower, and also work out why the garage door is sticking, oh and one of the internal doors needs a bit planed off the bottom. I think the slugs and snails sabotage our mechanical things by way of a decoy, they're slippery little customers.

Anyway, have a great start to the weekend everyone.

Oh, and the bathroom sink needs unblocking, but to be fair that's been requiring some attention for a couple of weeks. Perhaps I'll just go and have a lay down, thinking about all these jobs is exhausting

I did major clean of living room yesterday....took down curtains & washed, cleaned all my glass, dusted & oiled furniture, there was enough dust to choke a horse. Today is total clean of kitchen/ dining room & car interior. It is still early though so I think I will follow your lead Freein & doze back off. Have a good day all!!!
