Welcome Help! I felt the same way...intimidated by all the activity. The more the merrier! Congrats on 10 days! How've you been doing it? I love hearing peoples approach to recovery.

Welcome back FBL. I'm glad you're stepping right back in and not uselessly beating yourself up. Its good to look at what happened and think of ways to keep from relapsing, but in a healthy positive way, not that wasteful shameful stuff....like I always do

Good morning class

Day....? I dunno. Over 100 I think but I don't feel like counting. Things are good. Going to yoga this morning...back will feel better for a few hours after that. I have a meeting for a volunteer opp with a conservation group today at 1. Silly but I'm kinda nervous. And we're going to go for a walk for the interview. Hope my back isn't too tight but it should actually help...I hope. I'll be fine. I reviewed the website and all the people that run the organization have pictures of themselves in rafts, kayaks etc (yes its for river conservation). I'm not doing this because I'm an avid river rafter, kayaker person. Just love Idaho's natural water resources and want to volunteer. I'll just be honest. If I have to all activist-y it won't be for me. Well at least I'm doing something. Do something, something happens.

Welcome all the new people. For anyone that is struggling, never stop trying. Hope is always there...just grab it.

FABL - I was thinking about you yesterday and wondering how you were doing. Glad you're back. Can I ask what happened?

Faithful - Glad you're still here with us

This made me laugh. After I make it through today I will have beat the hell out of September too. Not one drink throughout the entire month. I am ecstatic about that, esp b/c some days were so incredibly difficult and I had many close calls. Next my goal will be to make it through the month of October sober.

I'm not in danger of going back to drinking for that reason, but just trying to sort it all out. I should just go to bed. Things will seem better in the morning (and with no hangover!)
Juno, how are you today? I'm behind in reading posts, and missed your post last night. Ironically, I stepped on the scale and thought the same thing, gosh, I've gained weight. On the one hand, I want to stay on top of it: I worked very hard to lose 25 pounds two years ago. Yet, on the other, I'm going to try to cut myself a bit of slack until I get more sober time under my belt. Upping the exercise would probably be my best approach now too.

Hope you have a great day!

This is OUTSTANDING Sleepy. I started 8/31, but unfortunately had two false starts. I'm hanging in there since 9/7 though. We all graduated. YAY!

Good morning, all:

Kinzoku, Cameron--you are doing great!! Helpimalive, welcome!

FF and FBL, how are you this morning? Thinking about you and sending you support and positive thoughts.

Ironically, I'm sleeping better than I have for months, but due to some deadlines, I'm getting less sleep, it seems, then ever. (At least the circles under my eyes would intimate that). Oh well. I can't imagine pushing at work like this feel hungover. It will only be a few more weeks and then I can pause. Meeting a good friend for a weekend getaway in October. We are old friends and in the past getting together, especially without our partners, has meant drinking ourselves silly. I've already told him I'm not drinking and, much to my surprise, he said he isn't either!

Have a terrific day, all!!

Depressed and feeling down. I think I have too much free time on my hands. Down time allows my mind to wonder, and that never ends well.

Feeling pretty bad today, and I kinda want to continue on the self pity train but I know it's not productive so I'll get myself together and get back on track.

Your right FF. Self pity never leads to anything good. Just remember that these feelings will pass. Do something good for yourself right now.

Hi FF
I understand the too much time thing. Tonight my daughter goes to her Dad's for 3 nights. I'm all by myself....its very hard. And its very depressing....tend to start focusing on what I don't have vs what I do. I'm trying to find things to fill up the time. I joined some meetups revolving around meditation, refuge recovery, buddhism....haven't gone yet, but I know when they are. I am trying to get some volunteer work. Not just stuff at the local shelters but stuff that might train me for a new vocation once my daughter leaves for Uni. I walk the dogs, do my yoga, go to the gym....even head out to the local cafe and just read and drink some joe. But I completely relate. I've gone to AA too, and Smart. Just not real interested in that right now. Bottom line is, I have to keep moving forward...even if its small steps. Oh and I eat a lot! I made this stuff my daughter is calling power pudding (don't laugh): Avocado, dates, coconut butter, raspberries, unsweetened cacao, honey, vanilla...all wizzed up in the food processor. Totally amazing. Better than chocolate pudding...ok I'm babbling. Hang in there.

Again FF I can relate. Maybe try not to overthink today. You know the next few days are going to be the hardest. Get in the shower, take a walk, shop for good food. Show yourself some kindness. Have a no harm day.

Thanks everyone. Sleepydots- to answer your question- nothing really happened. It was Sunday, I was so proud to have made it through Friday and Saturday but I just felt blah. Dreading the workweek, lots of chores to be done. I mostly drink at home alone- hiding it as best I can from my two teenage daughters. So it was just a matter of thinking that a few beers would make me happier ... More productive? And not even giving myself a chance to reconsider.
My best defenses are SR, exercise, eating, or journaling. I chose not to utilize those tools. Dumb and lazy.

But today's a new day. Live and learn.

I based my approach on the SAMHSA guidelines to developing like a "wellness plan," which is linked in the thread at the top of the Newcomers forum. It involves developing plans of things you have to do daily, things to do when you're "triggered" to drink, and things to do when you feel yourself slipping closer to drinking.

Most important has been my list of daily activities, which includes reading and posting on here, exercise, and general upkeep of my life and health. I also spend time each day "anticipating" future stuff that will make me want to drink, and planning ahead of time what I'm going to do about it.

I'm also keeping a running "recovery to do list" which has anything I can think of that might help on it--researching different kinds of recovery, trying out different online meetings, writing up reminders for myself of different thought processes I sometimes need reminding of when I'm tempted to drink for one of my old trigger reasons, making various lists (reasons not to drink, things I'm learning about me in sobriety, et cetera)--so that any time I feel off I can go to my "recovery to do list" an do something on the list, instead of maybe getting to a place where I crave a drink.

It's working well so far, and through a few stressful situations even, but I can really only hope it keeps working like it has been.
