Class of March 2011 Part 24
Thanks guys and gals! Had a good day, went out for a nice meal with the hubs. He got me a card and a candle, very sweet. I was looking forward to this one. Actually I've had a number of drinking dreams lately, probably cuz this day was around the bend. Maybe my mind will settle a bit now.
Sorry you were ill, Dee, glad you're feeling better. Thanks for the shout out on my thread, made me smile. You've been such a constant support and influence, I appreciate it so much. You all feel like actual friends, I'm grateful for you.

H ey ! thanks for all the well wishes.
Had a really rough time yesterday---don't know why---
I cannot figure it out to save my soul. The cravings are gone this morning
but, whoa it was a tough one . I could not get the thought of getting high off
booze out of my brain. I ate everything under the sun and there was that AV on my shoulder every time I turned around. Ugh. But, very thankful to be sober and ready for today---Have a meeting at Noon today and that pleases me a lot.

Hey Babs, sorry you had a rough go yesterday. Glad you made it through, I bet that meeting today will make you feel stronger and more positive. I know 2 people who've had cataract surgery in the last couple months and they loved the results. I'm sure it'll go great!
Not much going on here, just enjoying summer with the kiddos! Hope you're all enjoying your week! Let us know how your meeting goes, Babs!

Congratulations, Mirage!!!! You're AWESOME!!! I was talking about you the other day in a meeting. Remember how you used to refer to your sobriety like it was a cute little pet? And you said that you needed to care for it, protect it, feed it, and all that? Yep, I shared that. I think about it often. It reminds me to not feel guilty about the self-care that's required to keep me sober, which includes getting the rest I need, eating well, and nurturing my emotional well-being.
Babs, you asked why you get those, and there's someone in my meeting who gave me an answer once that totally makes sense. We get those cravings because we're alcoholics. So, when they come on, I can smack my forehead and say, "Doh! I really am an alcoholic!" Normies don't get them ... normies don't have obsessive thoughts about drinking. It's just as easy for a normie to choose a slice of cake as it is for them to choose a drink. The very fact that we get them is simply further proof of this disease in us. When I think of it that way, those cravings actually STRENGTHEN me instead of weakening me. Just a thought.
We're getting ready for our yearly family vacation up north. I remember when that was such a trigger time for me, but it isn't anymore. Now that I've had a few years up there without alcohol, it's not scary to consider it. In fact, if I compare the years I did drink up there to the years I didn't, I enjoyed the ones without it MORE. That's a helpful thing to know! It reminds me a bit of the article on this site today about 4 misconceptions about recovery. (btw, Dee, those articles are SO GOOD! I love reading them!)
Hugs all around!

ohhh PBC THANK YOU soooo much ----I feel so much better and I completely understand what you are saying and believe me it really makes sense. Yes, I'm an alcoholic and that's why I think about the darn stuff so much. DUHHHH ! I just needed to hear it from someone else and now it makes sense. Anyway ---you got through to me.
Going to an AA meeting today and going early. I have met a gal that sends cards to those that have been there for a long time that have gotten sick or heart attack, and etc. anyway I use to work for a card company and I have quite a few get well cards, thinking of you , and etc cards so, I'm going to take her a small stack so, she can use them as needed.
Anyway---stay in the AC where it is cool and hugs to all of you !
