a kind grim reaper

she lost interest
in food and that was the last
signal it was time

my warm hand on her
chest while i asked did her heart
stop wait that's my pulse

a former ball of
pain and nerves unraveled as
she sank into peace

such a sweet being
so stoic and loyal and
loving and now gone

i wrapped her up in
flannel clouds and sheep a blue
sky soft cotton shroud

we rolled her into
the oven and that was that
just an urn of ash

memories and gratitude
