Hi, everybody! Thanks again for all the congrats. I felt strong and it was great. Glad it's over, none the less. Jen, you got this smoking thing. Even if you mess up and have one or two on a day you meant to have zero, you're still making lots of good progress. You can never succeed if you don't try.

I used to be a cig smoker too. I smoked all through my teen years, gave it up around 21, then picked it back up in my early 30's after beginning to work as a nurse. I would get led out to the smoking area with other new nurses on our breaks and I'd end up bumming one cause the shift was hair-raising. It escalated to me smoking all the time. Finally kicked it for good in 2001. It was HARD. Used patches and then the nicotine gum.

I think a pack of cigs goes for around $8 here in the States now. Could be more for some brands. I think it's absolutely ridiculous what they charge. It's 90% taxation. Just glad I don't smoke anymore. It's so worth the effort and the struggle to kick it to the curb. Do it, Jen! And Shabby, you might as well do it too. You're heart's not in it. Sorry your significant other is so into it though.

Venecia, your stats say you're in the Midwest but you sure sound like someone from across the pond. Where the heck are you? Am I the only one over here in the States?

I love the Stone's music too. Not a groupie by any means but it's classic stuff that will never die.

So, day #8 is in the bag now. Let the good times roll.

Yay Cissy!!! Day 8 and family occasion like water off a duck's back!!

The last packet of tobacco I bought cost about $75 and that only lasts about 4-5 days....ridiculous paying money to ruin your health. You get nothing out of it at all. The madness has to stop!

I'm in Canada cissy, so I'm at least on the same continent.
Cigs here are $13.50 a pack, its getting very expensive to kill myself.

I love the stones too.

Yay for day 8 cissy!!

Thanks for the encouragement everyone

I also haven't had ANY sugar in days, I feel like a petulant child who wants its sweeties.

I've been taking - omega 3 fish oil, vitamin b, c, d, magnesium and raw garlic, drinking hot water with lemon and ginger, 2 tablespoons of raw apple cider vinegar and two tablespoons of coconut oil everyday.

I feel good in the body, but the brain is one walking addict haha
Oh my.....

Does anyone else take supplements etc?

Wow! Good for you, Jen. You're trying very hard to improve your health. I take vitamins but I'm not one to believe in a lot of that stuff. I have the apple cider vinegar with the mother in it but don't use it, have chia seeds but rarely take them, that sort of thing. Think I have some CoQ10 and stuff laying around. I have trouble buying into stuff of that nature. Feel like a chump.

Go for it on the ciggies, Jsbodhi! You can do it. You, too, Shabby. I try to be better about supplementing my admittedly inadequate diet -- women's vitamins, Vitamin D and fish oil. Your post is a good reminder for me to regulate myself better along those lines.

Shabby, I hear you. If I had to identify the No. 1 stressor in my life, it would definitely be my job. I tend to like it, but there is a boss who can be best described as "high maintenance." And needlessly so. I wish I had some brilliant words to share with you to help you persevere. The only thing I can say is that we cannot drink away work tensions.

Sao, here's a little-known secret about Americans and their purported love affair with "Downton": We've grown weary of it! It had so much promise but the lazy writing (redundant plots, poorly developed characters) has worn thin. But, yes, I'll watch the final episodes, I know. My friends in England actually don't care for it.

Cissy, what can I say! What you see is what you get. The way I write is largely the way I speak. But I'm a Yank, through and through. Born and reared in Wisconsin, though in Minnesota now for many years. And while Sao may think we talk the way they do in "Fargo" -- perhaps the movie, not so sure about the TV show -- we don't. Well, not much, don't ya know.

Not currently taking vitamins but have taken many supplements over the years...all sorts. Astaxanthin is a good one. I do raw apple cider vinegar with the mother in salad dressings. Love coconut products.

Yes, I liked Downton a lot when it first came out but now it's become pretty boring. If you are going to do a soap opera - albeit great looking - you have to write more drama in it than they have been doing of late. Bummer. Maggie Smith is hilarious though.

Jen - I just didn't check my phone when I got home from work. Didn't get home until 7.30 pm, made and ate dinner. I'd had a stressful day at work which didn't help but I'm a bit useless sometimes with checking my phone. I'm not consistent enough and can miss a day or night here and there because I still haven't quite got the 'it has to be an appendage all the time' thing. It's impt with my job though so it's not okay. I just have to improve, and develop the habit. I dunno, sometimes life seems to just be about developing or quitting bloody habits!!

Jsbodhi, it looks like you've got a new prime minister with an old last name.

Congrats!

Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

I am old enough to remember Margaret Trudeau hanging out with Ronnie Wood - he got about that boy

Yes! I'm very pleased! I liked his dad and I like Justin so far too

Cissy- I don't know how I feel about the supplements and stuff too, but I'm doing it anyway. I'll let you know of my results as time goes on.

I have an exam in a couple hours, just taking a study break.
I have premade meals for each day, but because I've been sitting here studying all day I've eaten them all by 1 pm :/
Now I don't know what I'll have for dinner- a piece of kale maybe......

Shabby I agree, it sometimes feels as if life is correcting and developing new habits, I wonder what the hell I'll do when I'm done with the ones I have, maybe I'll have to take up heroin just to have a new issue to fix

Hi, everyone. Not too talkative today but wanted to let you know all is fine here. Day 9? I'm beginning to miscount but I remember Sunday was 7. I may stop counting now and just put the date in my stats to the left. Counting is pointless if you are staying on point anyway.

Have an excellent day and I'll bbl maybe, or tomorrow at worst.

Good luck, Jen!! Lol....I think you should have two pieces of kale for dinner, what the heck....three!!

Glad all is fine with you, Cissy. Stuff counting, eh?

Thanks for the education guys...I knew nothing about the Trudeaus. I looked up the Ronnie Wood Margaret Trudeau thing...interesting. Looks like the media slaughtered her back in the day . Typical. I watched a doco a few years back on Abraham Lincoln and learned his wife had Bipolar Disorder. He may not have been a Catholic but that guy was a saint!

Yes Tooshabby I think you're right about the media going for her - no idea what her supposed crime was but they (the press) don't really need a reason

Congratulations on Day 10 Cissy

No, the media sure as heck don't need a reason other than making lots of money out of someone else's misery (the ones that lack integrity, anyway).

Manic couple of days here work-wise. Feeling positive though, and a lot of that has to do with not drinking. More energy and confidence.

Great, Cissy! Double digits!! How are you feeling for it?

Hope the giving up smoking is going okay, Jen. I'm not ready yet, but it's right at the top of my 'to be tackled' list. Hope your exams are going okay.

Sao, do you know anything about Audi TT's? (about 2003/2004). We like the look of them but don't know much about cars, except that our two pieces of rubbish really need to go! (to the junk yard)

Hmm, never owned an Audi Tooshabby so i'm not sure if my opinion particularly valid. I do own a VW which is a sort of "non designer" Audi I suppose

I completely agree that they look really good and Audi have a good reputation for build quality. They share a platform/ components from cheaper VW models which means they are not to costly to own and run (but still more than say a Ford or Toyota)

Three main engine types:-

1.8L 180bhp
1.8L 225bhp
3.2L 4 wheel drive

The 3.2L is a lot more expensive to own and run and not much quicker than the 1.8L 225. Only really worth buying if you do a lot of long distance driving, otherwise ignore

I prefer the 1.8L 225bhp as it is quicker and not massively more expensive than the 180bhp but either is fine

As with any car go for one with a good service history

Oh, I forgot Shabby. Make sure 2 seats is enough as the back seats are useless for adults

Great, thanks Sao. We had been thinking the 1.8....it's good to know about the distinction between the two. Hmmm....the two seats only thing could be an issue. It's nice to be able to ferry people around occasionally. Will have to ponder this, as our other car is a tiny Toyota.

Mr TS used to have one of those old saabs....I can't remember the model now, but you probably know the ones I'm talking about. It was like driving a tank - so heavy. Gorgeous car though - such a cool shape. The problem with older European cars is that they cost so much to fix. Well, they do over here anyway.
