You are quite right TS, unfortunately moderating is not for the likes of us.

There have been some anti gentrification protests in my borough. They are misguided but I understand the resentment. I was lucky to get my flat when the area was still poor

Missed last night's blood moon, unusually it was cloud free so I could have seen it but couldn't stay awake which is a bit of a shame. Looks good in the pics

Hi, all --

My meager attempts at photographing the super moon yielded crummy shots. But I did have a pleasant evening. There is a large cathedral on a hill where I live and went to watch it there, wondering if anyone else would have the same idea. About 100 people did!

In the Newcomers Forum, there is a good article posted by one of our fellow journeyers, EndGameNYC. He's a good friend to this community -- when he speaks, I listen. You may have seen it, but I'll share here just in case.

Thanks, Ven. That was a great article - lots of insights to be had.

Having a 'get things done' day today. Dropsie, who is fairly new to posting (been lurking for a while) has started a thread on procrastination down in the Alcoholism section for anyone who suffers from it and wants some support. One hypothesis that the instant gratification that addicts typically crave is connected to putting things off. We hope to understand ourselves better and keep checking in with how we are going.

Love to all xxx

Evening everyone,

Beautiful day today weather wise.

I would love to know how it is that with all this technology and gizmos I and seemingly most other people seem to be working harder and harder. When I was a teenager in the late 1970s I read an article under the headline "Thank god its Thursday" which was about how computers and machines would lead to a shorter working week. How wrong was whoever wrote that

Very wrong! I can understand why they might have thought it, but it didn't eventuate that's for sure. Nothing is ever enough in our culture. Has the AV settled down, Sao? Does it bother you very often?

Nesty, I didn't read your post properly yesterday....Ms Pepe has a new pal!!! Great idea having two so Mz Pepe has some company. How cute. I love the names :-) Is there a chance they could fight if you put them together too quickly?

Yes thanks Shabby - it's nagging but from the back seat, not right in my ear.

I expect MzPepe and La Pew they will be OK together. Do they usually live in packs?

I didn't quite catch that either, Nest. You have two critters together?

The AV. It is a patient beast. But it is also one that grows increasingly weak -- proportionate, I think, to time. For me, the cravings are mainly gone. It's been a long time since I've even given much thought to it.

And I think that therein lies the solution. It's not just that we don't think about it much after time goes by, but that we don't give it power. With time, you begin to increasingly see yourself as someone who simply doesn't drink. It's not just that drinking was a problem, which it was, but that it is no longer part of our lives.

I found that helped considerably.

Time? It works with us and against us. I started to realize I had more of it on my hands because, well, I had wasted so much of it. Being wasted, sadly.

I started a pretty strong commitment to exercise, which I think has proven essential. Not only does it fill time, but I am convinced it has a good impact on our brains. The more I exercised, the less I wanted to drink. I just felt better. And, with time, I began to look better. I'm down about 4 dress sizes since I went sober. Would still like to shed about 15 more pounds. Twenty, if I really work at it. I don't know that I'll ever be my college size again, but I'm close.

None of this is easy, guys.

But the alternative? It is so much harder. So much worse.

Yes, I think that is the direction I need to head in. I am a non-drinker. I didn't drink at all throughout my 20's. Never thought about it. It's the fantasy of being able to moderate that keeps coming back and biting me. I have to ditch it once and for all so I don't waste more years to this insane merry-go-round. My first taste of alcohol it was like a duck to water. Got rotten drunk when I was 12 years old. It was like something in me 'knew' "Ahhh....there you are. You're just what I've been looking for." The more, more, more beast was there right from the start.

Once I gain a bit more physical strength I'm going to start exercising. 4 dress sizes is amazing!!

Wow! 4 dress sizes Venecia, that's some serious downsizing - congratulations

I first started walking and then jogging to try to counteract the imsomnia I had when I quit. It has mostly worked too. Losing a few pounds was a bonus but it must be good for me as I have a sedentary job.

Luckily I have the Regents Canal nearby which is not only flat but traffic free, apart from pushbikes

Wherefore art thou, Nesty? We miss you!

Just started raining in Auckland. Been lovely for a few days, so the change is kind of nice. It's so annoying, Sao, all of the rugby is on at times that are way too early to watch it. Bah humbug. I'm thinking I might pop over to my brother's (he has Sky) to watch England versus Australia though, even if it starts at 8.00am on Sunday morning, in the vain hope that England might give them a good thrashing. I'm a Kiwi through and through when it comes to sport and we're ridiculously competitive with Australia. Bit sad, really. Plus, I love the English.

Venecia, I've settled upon my 'mantra': "I can't drink." It makes me feel secure and it sums it up perfectly. "I don't drink" doesn't cut it. "I *can't* drink" tells the story of all the misery it causes me, and the fact that I can't drink as such, only guzzle. I'm going to stick close to this mantra and hope it serves me well.

Nesty, please check in! How are Mz Pepe and La Pew? How are you?

Jen, how are you too?

Sounds like a good mantra, Shabby.

Another good one is "Clooney, you shall be mine." No. Wait. Never mind.

Nesty, how are you doing?

Good one, Venecia :-)

Hope you enjoy your golf, Sao. Can't do any worse than Tiger Woods!

I feel excited and happy about being sober. This is a first. Here's hoping.....

Shabby, that's a good development. There is a point when it becomes exciting. And I'm excited for you.

I had to sit in my boss's office for two hours straight, seated at the table where a bottle of Lemoncello that was given to her earlier in the week for her birthday was front and center. Probably the longest exposure to booze in such close proximity I've had since I quit. It was a weird feeling. But you do reach a point where it is nothing more than a mildly unsettling recollection that some bottles contain contents that are bad for me. No desire, just a reminder to be vigilant and continue seeking the company and support of fellow journeyers.

You really do reach that point.

That sole British Kit Kat in my freezer, though. Ahhh ... it hovers in my mind. I did kinda go hog wild on them and need to mind my Ps and Qs, lest I lose hard-earned ground. Britain and food did remind me that I had meant to look up suya. I did and wow -- it looked intricate. I'm afraid my half-Norwegian genetics kicked in -- anything with a Scotch Bonnet is out of my league. But I hope it turned out well, Sao. Or was the semi-freddy (freddo) needed to put out the mouth fire?

Hi everyone Sorry I haven't been on .. Been busy had an old childhood GF come to visit for a few days from out of state . Had a good time , she likes the autumn here so we drove around a lot looking at the leafs . We get many tourists that come this time of year with the beautiful tree's turning color. It's called "Leaf Pepping "
I also joined a couple rat forums , it's amazing all the new things I've learnt since I last owned my first pair . Well 20 years ago I didn't have internet !
Mz Pepe's roomie's name got changed to "Trouble" she's 2 weeks younger & is a big pest to Pepe . Wakes her up , steals her food , changes the furniture around after Pepe gets it just right
Yes I'm obsessed keeps my mind occupied - that's a good thing .. Baby's still doing ok . Good & bad days with pain .
I'll pop in from time to time , but my anxiety seems to go up & I get stressed out with reading others threads here . That's why I had enjoyed posting here on Franks Thread . Was upbeat & I laughed a lot . I need that in my life already had too much sadness .
Take care all . I will try to come back as often as my busy life / anxiety allows
