Now you're stuck with "nesty" cause I'm calling you that too. I'm so deeply sad that you have to face that decision. A close friend of mine just had to go through the same thing with her 12 1/2 year old best friend, a German Shepherd named Chico. As my sister (one of them) likes to say, there's no way out but through. We will all rally around you when the time comes. Be like Frank and just hang here and post every 5 minutes with whoever else is on his thread at the time.

Want to post a pic of your pooch? What's his name? How'd you come to own him (or to be owned by him)? I'm assuming gender and I guess I shouldn't do that, especially these days. Tell us about him.

I have a little budgie that I found who flies free around my house, I love him so much and worry about if he's happy or lonely because I work so much, I'd just die if I had to see him not well, I feel really bad for you, I've had dogs too and I know how much they mean to us xx

Just a skype with Irishman, he got his hair cut and he looks so handsome.
He wants me to come to Dublin for xmas break over school, but I'm just going to see how things go when he visits in november.
He thinks we are meant to be haha- we'll see.
He's really cool though, he's travelled all over the world, is so funny, has two physics degrees and he's crazy about me so I suppose I'll give it a whirl

The only other issue is that the love of my life is also Irish and in Ireland, we have always kind of hoped to get back together when we both finished university, I'd feel so guilty going to Ireland and not seeing him; but I can't bloody go there and divide my time between the two of them, that would be ludicrous and they'd both be devastated.
Maybe I shouldn't go, it helped to type that out.
It appears there's something about me and Irish guys, I don't even plan it, I just randomly meet them and begin romances.

I like birds Jen . My parents had a parotkie < spell ? It would get in the sink under water drips & fluff his feathers up .
That will need some deep thinking on your Irish man Do "Pro's & Con's " that's how I decide things Or listen to your gut - not your heart . Sometimes the heart doesn't always know best ... I ended up with getting my heart broke , but I had that feeling before I jumped . ( should have listened )

Nesty - as long as she is not in pain then I would let Baby soldier on. I expect you have given her a good life so if you do have to make that horrible decision then don't feel bad

sao Baby's hips have been failing since the beginning of summer . Sometimes she falls down & just lay's there . Finally after resting awhile she manages to get up . I've been lucky that happens just in the house . With it starting to get colder & winter approaching . If she falls outside I can't lift her I live alone . I'm trying to face the reality that it's best for her . If it she was getting around ok it would be different .

Darling Nesty. I feel your pain, I really do. This is slightly cosmic, but I was sleeping when you posted about Baby and was dreaming I was crying my eyes out about losing our dog Martin who we had to have put down two years ago. I've never dreamed that before. I think empathy was leaping over continents and between levels of consciousness. I am so sorry too. Yes, our furry friends are so special and important to our lives. (((hugs))) from me too. Like Jen said, stay close. Sao is right, if she is not in pain, that is the main thing. Our dog (Boo) had cancer so we had no option. We are with you.

I hope your Mum is okay, Frank. It so lovely to hear from you xxxx Amazing you have not been tempted. I'm so impressed! Yay!!!! Did you buy anything?

Whooaaa Jen! You are in a bit of a tight spot there! The new Irish guy sounds absolutely fabulous (that's for you, Sao), but the love of your life? ****! I don't know what to say or suggest. Do you think you know in your heart?

Hey Sao, you should be able to find urchins a plenty in London, right? "Got to pick a pocket or two......"

Sorry for your loss too Jen (( hug )) nothing can live forever it's life . But I know this is going to cause my AV to Explode , I felt it's pull the worse Baby gets .
It's selfish of me to hold onto her to keep my sobriety , cause I know that's a lot of it .
Enough of my pity party . If I fall - I will get back up

It's pretty much time then. Dog's rarely show pain but when it comes down to the point of refusing food, vomiting up the food you have been able to coax them to eat and all the heavy breathing and stuff, those are some unmistakable indicators of the end. She's suffering and she won't improve so why prolong it?

I know how hard it is to make that decision and to say "today is the day" but the hardest part is making the decision. I'm sure you will feel it was the right thing to do, and that it was the right time. And when you have given yourself some time to grieve, there's no shortage of loveable and lonely dogs that need a good mom.

When my little girl's time comes, I won't be able to go without another pet very long. Mine is 12 1/2 and sometimes leaks urine. Lots of fatty tumors and one rather bad looking tumor on her right hip that is round and very hard to the touch. I think it won't be long but I'm watching her very closely. Still a good appetite, still doing stairs okay, etc.

God bless you, sweetie. And Baby too.

Bolli darling, Bolli!!!!

Nesty, it's not selfish at all. You love her. No pity party here - just life, which is bloody hard sometimes.
