Class of September 2015
Good morning September!
Ahh...afternoon.
I'm seeing posts today that reminds me of a huge turning point in my mentality towards sobriety.
It became very clear that everyone in my class of April, was experiencing the same things I was. A whole bunch of similarities. Even to this day, 4 months later, we seem to be crossing the same bridge at the same time.
That's when I KNEW I could do this for good. Totally abstain from alcohol.
It was EASY to see people who have been clean for a long time be happy. Excited about their decision. I was able to see people totally change their lives for the better. My he thought of losing all they have gained for one drink is out of the question.
THATS WHAT I WANT. So...just don't drink. The action and steer where my life is heading.
It was also VERY EASY to see what would happen if I had just one. Or if I tried to moderate. There's plenty of living examples.
The more I recognized the similarities amongst my class, the more I watched those ahead of me!

Hey all! Prisoners is a great movie! Night Crawler is another good movie with our boy Jake in it. I've also been watching season 2 of Penny Dreadful, I recommend it for fans of American Horror Story.
I have been sleeping like a baby! I'm out as soon as my head hits the pillow. But I feel for all you people who can't sleep, my son has insomnia and it's awful for him. He takes melatonin and I also have him do sleep meditations which seem to help.
I briefly thought about picking up beers on my way home from work since it's Friday and typically my big drinking night. I think it was more of a habit thought than an actual craving. I thought about it yesterday too. Most of the time I'm trying not to think about both drinking and not drinking. Banish those thoughts. Sometimes I find that the obsession to not drink can be as bad as the obsession to drink! I'd really rather just move on with my life and leave all these thoughts behind me. Not sure if that's possible although it would be ideal.
Think I'll have a wee nap before the kids get home from school..... it's been a long week and I've fighting a cold to go with working lots of over time. I've got a bunch of kids coming here tonight for a sleep over. Plus the house is a big mess, we've been away the last few weekends so it hasn't been cleaned and it shows. But what's the saying? House work won't kill you, but why take the chance?! lol

I hate housework! Just loaded my second load of dishes...that's all of them. It's amazing how much they accumulate. Doing laundry right now. I try to do a little cleaning everyday so I don't have to spend a whole day cleaning, but the last few days have been really hard.

Me too! It's not too bad if you keep up with it but I'm see a whole day of it in my future this weekend! I also see my bf mysteriously getting very very busy all of the sudden and having to be somewhere else on that day...... He never has any time when it comes to chores, he's always running out of it, but infinite time for video games and napping (and drinking)

Hi class, on day 12 now AV is pretty quiet today after shouting and screaming at me all week but I've got the total blahs! Not motivated and feeling bored overall, I know I've got a bit of a pity party going on but at least it's a sober pity party
What's everyone got planned for the weekend? It's best to keep as busy as possible I find but for the life of me I can't think of anything to do! Oh apart from hiking, I'm planning on doing some of that as long as the weather holds.
Peace X

My fellow April cohort, Incontrol, speaks the truth. All of you September peeps are now and will continue to go through the same temptations, pressures, insomnia, and depression that many of you have been expressing on this thread. Hang together! There is strength in numbers. Cheer each other on! Be there when times are tough. My April board still is my non drinking family probably for life. Your are making friends here with people who will know you better than your spouse does. Trust me. Things will slowly get better for all of you. Looking back at four months, things are so much better NOT drinking than they were drinking every day!

Saturday and day 7.
Add me to the sleeping-poorly-squad. I was up around 3. Tried reading a book but eventually gave up around 5 and made some breakfast. Feeling really strong about today, confident that I won't be tempted.
I have quite a busy, but mundane day ahead. Previously, ie last week, such a dull day on the horizon would have tweaked my laziness fibres, now though, I'm already in Duracell energiser bunny mode and quite up for it. The busier the better for the time being I feel.
Have a successful weekend everyone.

Hi all! Just checking in. Still afternoon here on the west coast of the u.s. Things are going well. My heart still feels a little fluttery from anxiety, but seems to be simmering down. Got an hour and a half in on a project that I've been putting off since it makes me feel anxious. That felt good. My new mantra when I feel anxiety about work now is, what action can you take? Before I would waddle in paralysis (and drown in wine) vs doing something, which always makes me feel better.
Lol on the housework. I feel the same way. A few years back my partner and I broke down and got a house cleaner once a week. We both like a clean house, but neither of us live to clean after long days at work. And with two dogs, the place gets messy. It has been a relationship saver

Hi everyone, it's 6:00 ish on the east coast and I'm through Day 5. I had some wicked wine cravings from about 4:00 to 5:30 or so. I had to push through them. I had to do a lot of driving and I was hot and tired and hungry and the sky was so blue and I was just craving a cold glass of wine. I pushed through it and went to McDonald's instead and got food. Not the healthiest, I know, but I had to do what I had to do tonight to get through this. Now I'm going to pamper myself with a hot bubble bath and watch some tennis on TV or a movie. Day 5 in the bag and I hope those cravings stay away. That really sucked.
Oh, by the way, I have no problems sleeping. In fact, my main problem is that my kids don't allow me to get as much sleep as I want/need. The only times when I have crappy sleep is when I drink, so that just shows what alcohol does to the body!!!

I currently have 7 13 year old boys upstairs in my living room for my sons birthday party. The din is unreal! And the dog just vomited all over the carpet and for some reason I have managed to step in the wet spot from cleaning it up three times, ugh sooooo gross. Party time! I'm hiding in my bedroom lol
My bf is drinking. I am not. Even if I wanted to (and I don't) I can't when I have this many kids here.
Matilda I would love to hire a cleaner. We have talked about it, perhaps I will with the money I save from not drinking! It sure would be nice to not have to spend one of my hard earned days off cleaning.

Hello September friends. I'm back after a useless waste of a few nights drinking. I bought a notebook and tonight I am creating my "toolbox". I need a Go-to, no excuses plan for these cravings to keep me from going on automatic pilot. I feel ridiculous with this back and forth nonsense.
Juno- I am like you as far as sleep. Sleep is one of the first things alcohol robs from me. When I don't drink, I sleep like a baby. Even if I don't get enough, as long as I'm sober, it's fine.
Drinking sucks...all there is to it.
I'm tired of breaking my own promises. I'm just doing it. One day at a time. One craving at a time. The only way I can.

Zenchaser - I have a 12 year old (boy) and a 14 year old (boy) and a 16 year old (girl). My house is really busy. I also have an adorable dog who throws up now and then and gets lovely doggie diarrhea Oh the joys! I do have a great housekeeper who comes every 2 weeks. She's a life saver.
Forabetter life - I can so relate to your sleep comment. Yes, that is is so true... "even if I don't get enough, as long as I'm sober it's fine." Yep. I hope your notebook helps you out. I like going to AC Moore and picking out new journals and ideas for "projects." I love to journal and write things out, too. Good luck breaking through. I've been really good at breaking my own promises as well - time to change that.

I think that is a great idea to take the money and put it towards a cleaner. Might be especially motivating if you got a jar or container and plunked the money in there every day. A great way to say to yourself, I'm not depriving myself by foregoing alcohol; instead I'm putting it towards something that is really self care.
Just finishing up at work and heading into my witching hour. Partner wanted to take me to dinner at one of our favorite places, but I declined: afraid it would be too tempting. Making crab cakes instead. Yum!
Day 5. Lots of things happening today and tomorrow that would make my inclined to guzzle vodka but I'm handling it fine. Mainly dealing my moodiness and mild depression which I can't shake and it's bothering me. And I'm eating. Too much.
I'm trying on wedding dresses tomorrow AM so at least I won't be hungover. Or drunk. But I'm not feeling all too happy either. Just rolling along.....
