One thing I have recoiled from has been the catch-cry "Have you got a plan?" As I said in my July class, I prefer to make a mess of my life; bit of a "plan schmann" kind of person. I can see now that's been mistaken. Apart from the practical help it will provide me, designing and having a plan will remind myself I'm serious about quitting. Sobriety is not just some preference I have, but is essential for a truly meaningful and rewarding life.

The idea of being grateful has recently got under my skin. I too used to find it a bit syrupy, but now it warms my heart and makes me feel good about life.

Those flowers are beautiful! I love the smell of eucalyptus :-)
I usually just " wing it" in life as well, but having a plan seems to work with stating sober- I've always been a fan of the grateful thing, I find it calms me

Nice car S!

Thanks for all the kind words everyone, I didn't have insomnia and slept really well :-)

Just heading off to work, then to the university for a short time for an errand, hanging out with my non drinking Irishman tonight, he goes back to Ireland in the morning.
He's one of those people that drank heavily, then out of the blue one day decided to stop ( with no problem) and start working out and being healthy- lucky guy!!!
Anyway, he looks great, its motivating!
What's everyone else up to today?

Have to work today. Also have to go to my Mum's to get a prozac pill as I can't get into the doctor's until tomorrow and I've run out (poor planning, again). Should do a bit of housework....we'll see. I know what I haven't done yet.....coffee!!! How's that for procrastination? It really does have to be done though, to be fair.

Have a great last night with your Irishman, Jsbodhi. I bet he is going to miss you.

Saoutchik, I've heard exercise is good for insomnia. I must get back into it. Have got a gym membership and never blimmin' go - typical!

Still missing you, Frank.....

Sorry not to be responding to some very thoughtful posts. I'm just in a very dark place right now. I so hate to whine and I wanted this thread to be upbeat.

Just where I am right now.

I wouldn't worry so much about what you wanted the thread to be. It has been upbeat and will be again, I've no doubt.

Right now, let the thread be what it needs to be: People supporting one another.

Hi Frank! I was off reading Dee's recovery story. Amazing. It's in the Stories of Recovery' section. You should read it. Inspiring stuff :-)

Don't worry about not responding or being upbeat. Please, please don't. Nobody expects anything of you, but I'm pretty sure they would want you to be honest, for your own sake.

I don't think the SSRI has had enough time to kick in yet. You probably had a couple of good days and thought/hoped you were out of the woods, but it's likely it will take 3 or 4 more weeks. That probably feels like an eternity, but it will pass. Just binge on movies and tele. Have you seen Sideways? One of my all time favourite movies. Really funny and very touching :-)

And I so much appreciate the support here. Trying to be chatty and not so withdrawn. The only good news about my mood right now is that I'm not tempted to drink. Go figure. I know it would be a great (temporary) escape from the place I am.

You can be yourself with your friends here. We go through many ups & downs as we heal. Proud of you for not thinking of drinking.

I expect me to be upbeat. Without that I can't survive. The world is too dark otherwise.

Maybe SSRI hasn't had enough time, but not exactly encouraging right now.

I liked 'Sideways'. Other movie recs?

Thank you, Hevyn. But it is becoming more of a temptation. Not today, but I fear tomorrow. I want some kind of relief.

There are times when we wish we could do more.

But we can do this: Remind you that you, too, are precious to us, Frank. And I mean that.

I'm glad that you don't want to drink. That in and of itself is a victory.

Shabby, I also take great strength in Dee's story. He really did come back from the brink.

I'll be around for a bit, but must head up to the Genius Bar (that's really what it's called) at the nearby Apple Store. Long story. Also a rather stupid one.

The only thing drinking does reliably well is make everything worse.

Do you get outside, Frank? Exercise? Both proved immensely valuable for me.

I liked "Sideways" but it is a movie about wine. That would be a bad one for me.

When I need to smile, "Waiting for Guffman" and "Best in Show" are the best Rx for me.

OK. Auntie Venecia is childless. Or childfree, depending on how you look at it.

But I have a niece and nephew I adore. Got a new iPhone a couple months ago. Lovely Niece (LN) is 13. She asked if she could have my old iPhone to use as an iPod. Basically everything but the phone.

So I charged it up and was ready to give it to her when she and my brother stopped by on their way to the State Fair on Saturday. But then I entered my Apple password in the old phone. And voila! It is a phone again. It also has all of my email, including messages that are private (e.g., SB PM notifications that I never deleted).

When my phone rings (not that it does all that much), the tone is the theme from "The Pink Panther." I realized what I'd done when all of the sudden, I was hearing two Pink Panther themes.

So now I have to go have someone half my age figure out something that is probably very simple. For them. Not for me.

Okay, here's a few in no particular order.....

Away From Her (Canadian); The Station Agent; The Piano; Secretary (that one is really saucy); The Royal Tannenbaums; Little Miss Sunshine (favourite line: "Are we winners, or are we losers?!"; Beasts of the Southern Wild; Big Night; Fargo. God, there's so many great movies. I like all the David Lynch movies, and Wes Anderson's. 'Moon' was cool, if you are into sci fi. Any favourite genres? Or just something you feel like right now?
