Frank the thing that I didn't understand for a Long time . Was those words you just said : quote - I'm sure they think I'm a jerk, but that's my price for sobriety .
I too felt like a jerk or cold hearted , but I came to realize . I had to take care of me - I was number one . I had to worry & think of my health not them .
Just a little longer Frank you've come this far , did all the hard work . Soon you will be able to get out & make new sober friends . Sorry you had to go through that Crap at the start . Some Dr's have no clue over these matters , if one isn't helpful Always look for another till you feel comfortable ..

Yay!!! I made something techno work!!

I have can do it Nest, you surely can :-)

Might post some later down the track. It's amazing how we can do these things these days. I'll always be a hillbilly at heart that can't get over things like dish washing machines, mobiles, and half the things out that now that I've never heard of or have no idea what they do.

I understand entirely, Dee, and I want to zealously protect my anonymity as well as others. But I still don't understand your post. Are we doing something on this thread to compromise anonymity? If we (or I) am doing that I will certainly cease that activity.

Thanks Dee, for the word of caution. I think I managed to keep my sound cloud 'private' so it will only be shared on SR. I will make sure I don't ever say anything I would rather people not hear. Does that sound kosher? Please advice if you see further risks.

I do understand what you mean Dee .After I wrote my Where were you thread . I felt uncomfortable that it was out there for all to see . In the end I knew I did it to help others , that's another Big reason I joined SR . For me anyways what I've said here is the truth . No sugar coating , If someone wants to slam me in the future ( friends - family ) I will own up to it cause , that was & is my life . That's my thoughts on the matter . I've had things come back & bite me before . I will deal with it if it happens .
The Truth Will Set You FREE .. thanks Dee for a heads up on that rule

Hey guys --

Not that I'd ever presume to speak for Dee or Anna, but I was about to log in and say ... well, pretty much what Dee just explained. I've seen it a few times in my time here -- either photos or people using their own names as their user names, etc. Anyway ...

Hope all are well. I'm kind of exhausted -- mentally and emotionally -- right now and thus not posting much. Nothing bad -- and nothing that threatens my sobriety -- just two days away from a much-needed week away from work. Definitely needed.

I think that the early phases of sobriety are a reminder that rebuilding is underway. It can seem daunting. Lonely, especially when former friendships must necessarily recede into the past. Even existing friendships. One of the realities of my sobriety has been that woman I've considered my closest friend and I don't spend as much time together as we used to. Ol' Venecia, minus the wine, has not had as many social invitations. I can live with that but sometimes it's still hard.

On the other hand, there are things worse than rebuilding. Like our old lives.

I don't know anything about soundcloud or its security settings TooShabby sorry.

I do know I tried to access the link when I was logged out here and couldn't.
That's encouraging

That may change if I had a soundcloud account, I dunno

Frank
I've had people ask me to delete entire accounts because they think family members, employers, spouses or someone they were friends with at school may be able to identify them from their posts.

A voice recording is pretty identifying.

I'm sure it's great fun and you think it's a great idea to get to know one another.

I'm not really sure what else I could say to help you better understand why this may not be a great idea for everyone Frank?

I just wanted to leave a little heads up, not take over the thread

Lets leave it there

Hokay, Dee. Good advice, I reluctantly agree. I don't think there is anything on SoundCloud that identifies the name of the recorder, but I understand that voices are unique and could identify the person.

So I'll stay mute, and not encourage others to record.

Darn!

I won't come out with the hackneyed cliche "they were never true friends then". Life isn't that simplistic. Of course it is still difficult.

As yes, our old lives are ridiculous compared to the sublime experience of building our new ones ;-)

Venecia I know what you mean , before I quit one of my oldest friends would come stay the weekend sometimes . After I told them I had stopped drinking , they asked if they could . I said "sorry no' Conversation got cold & they said " ok I'll call you another time to see how your doing ".... That was 2 years ago

It's definitely changed the friendship with her. It's funny how you can get to a certain age and still it feels like you're "not one of the cool kids anymore." (I don't know that I ever was that cool.)

When I told her, it was in a heart-to-heart conversation with her and another friend. Her response was "well, I suppose if you think you have a problem." It was a let down. I've had to avoid the temptation not to read more into it -- including thoughts about her own drinking volume and frequency -- which I've done successfully sometimes. Sometimes not.

I've pretty much come to peace with it. We still do things together and have a nice time. It's just a little hard to see the occasional post of her with others (and drinks) on a FB post. Part of that, too, is that once she remarried she also became one half of a couple that chooses to spend much of their times with other "smug marrieds" (remember "Bridget Jones Diary"?). It is what it is. Sigh.

Hmmmm...I have never isolated my single friends throughout my long-term relationship. That's a bit ******, in my book. I have had the opposite experience though....being left out from social events as if it were 'singles only night'. Funny creatures, us humans.
