Would love to hear your voice. I'm pretty good at NZ accents. Can't remember if I've told you this before, but my parents and I were host to a foreign exchange student from KiwiLand, so I came to recognize the accent, distinctly different from the Aussie accent.

Years later I found myself cooling my heels outside a girl's apartment along with another guy (waiting for the same girl). We talked and I asked him what part of NZ he was from. He was mightily impressed that I knew he was from NZ because most people assumed he was from Australia. We became fast friends.

Oh yes, that would really impress a New Zealander. We don't like getting confused with Australians. I think because we are a small country we fight a bit too hard to be recognised. Some kind of insecurity going on there....'small country disease'.

Nest, I have been remiss on not having congratulating you on the length of you sobriety. Over two years!

How long did it take you to get 'straight' after quitting booze?

Darn! Link didn't work for me. If I remember correctly you need to find a link under the 'share' thingy.

I know you guys are having fun - but keep in mind a lot of folks like to keep their anonymity on a site like this.

Once you put something out there it's out there for good.
We don't delete links - and anyone can read or listen on SR including non-members.

Sending personal links by PM may be a better option if you're concerned about security now on in future.

I tried to get into the hospital for detox, but they wouldn't take me. Then some wiseas* told me to go back and tell the hospital I was suicidal (which I was). They admitted me, but all they did was lock me in a room until I was sober enough to (they said) not be a danger to myself. So I had to self-detox, which was too horrible to even describe.

I've lost all my "so-called" friends, too. They are all booze hounds and I won't even answer my phone when they call. I'm sure they think I'm a jerk, but that's my price for sobriety. And also why I feel so isolated. My only 'friends' were big time boozers who could keep up with me,

As far as feeling 'normal', I hope I get there soon.

Dee, what are we doing that might compromise anonymity?
