Good holiday morning to all the 'locals'......slept in until six. My gang was all away for the night and I've got the day to myself. To work or not to work?

V, I noticed that this past Sunday was Father's Day for Aussies. That was likely an emotional day for you. I hope you're feeling better.

To relax I often find myself working in the yard. Yesterday I put in these bright green plants. They keep their leaves all year according to the tag. That will look nice this winter.

Wishing everyone the best day.

Sorry you are not feeling well, V. I also thought of you when I learned it was Father's Day there. Hugs and get well soon.

Looks beautiful, Mark. Your yard puts my blank slate here to shame. Well, we have cultivated a good few beds full of weeds. I will need to hire pros to clean up in the spring. Our backs just cannot take the gardening. I imagined I would do so much of it, like my father did. It really is hard physical work!

Happy holiday everyone. Nice to have the day off. Also went out for ice cream with the family yesterday. Was nice.

Dry as a bone here. Haven't had rain in what feels like a month. Plants, trees, and lawns are all burning out and struggling.

Got a fun day planned with some swimming. Might be one of the last weekends for such.

Thinking of you V. Feel better.

Dry here too. With the water restrictions, for lawns blond is the new green. Around here you don't want to be the only a-hole on the block with a green lawn. My husband grieves because he paid handsomely for our lawn, but his new plan is a rock garden. They're all the rage right now.

Speaking of cheaters, I just started watching Mad Men. Smoking, drinking and cheating.

Briar, when I was a kid, my Dad couldn't get grass to grow in the front yard. He finally gave up and put down white stone with a statue in the middle.

Okay, it is 55 degrees outside right now, expected to reach 97 later. How is a parent supposed to dress their child, seriously?!

Good morning gang and happy Wednesday!

I hope the school year has gotten off to a good start for your kiddos phoebe.

Not much of interest to report from these parts.....just regular sober livin' and that's ok with me.

Wishing everyone the best day.

How are you feeling V? Any better?

Tomorrow I leave for my ladies weekend in Chicago. The one friend I will be with for all 4 days is a non drinker, another coming for two days is a very light drinker, one a day, maybe two on occasion. I think she would be fine not drinking if we do not. With one being a complete non drinker, I find it hard to imagine going to a bar. But, possible to go see some improv, theater or comedy. Second City had a fire and is closed for repairs for awhile. I am very disappointed about that. One concern I have is that some sorts of venues for comedy have drink minimums, no? I have not been for years and years! Does a diet soft drink count? LOL. I would just give a hefty tip on a sparkling water with lime if the server were ok with that.

Anyway, outside of wondering a bit about night life, I am not worried about drinking. Just about what to do at night that is very sober. I think my travel companion prefers that, and maybe even to stay in after dinner. She is not super high energy.

Busy day with errands, and making sure I tie up some loose ends for the kids and food for hubby and kids before I leave. I do not need to make meals, but since hubby will be trying work from home while doing puppy duty, and kid duty, I wan to make sure we have stuff around to prepare easily. I usually do all the food prep. But he can cope quite well. I do not need to tell him what to do or anything.

I will likely pop in, if I have free wifi!

Phoebe - drink minimums seem so unfair now. I get real irritated with events that push drinks like that.

But seriously, what if we want to see a comedy show and run into that? Non drinkers are not allowed, then? How does one deal? Probably wont happen, but want to be prepared. This friend is pretty low key. I don't see her as the night life type, other than theater, or movies or dinner, or a museum. All good choices anyway.

We all know one another through a different forum related to a health condition(our children or ourselves have it-one of my children does). We are a support group. I have met the one before, know the two others very well, online, for about 15 years and correspond almost daily with them. So, not internet strangers, lol. But first face to face with two of them, and 3rd time with one friend.

But glad two are total abstainers! That is part of why I am working on these friendships. Even though long distance, it is good to travel with non drinkers. And fun to get away with the gals!
