Bob, you are in my thoughts and prayers! I hope that you stick with us. It is only one day, all is not lost.

Congrats, on 2 months Tokidoki!

Upwardspiral, I hope you feel better soon. Take care of yourself.

Today marks 2 months for me, my son got the lead role in the senior play at school, and I was named "teacher of the month". All around a good day, except for the pain that I am in.

Thank you toki, letitgo, BBB, Holds, Tooshabby, Up, angd, and Dee! I’m glad to be back! I feel good except my pride is a little dinged. I guess if this was easy there’d be no need for groups or supports. So I am thankful to you all for being there when I fell.

Letitgo you summarized the Carr material, actually, better than he did.

Tooshabby, thank you so much. So weird that being HAPPY can be a trigger. Never in my life have I tried so hard to do the right thing as here in this place. Even when I was a counselor in a psych hospital I never really shared that much. We did have to keep a professional distance. But I also did psychodrama where you delve deep. I always held back. Not here and that’s good.

Congrats angd and thank you.

I felt pretty crummy today actually. I know my AV is having a good laugh. I’m making certain to plan out the next 3 or 4 days carefully. That old “failure to plan…” truth came back and got me. I had no plan and that really was the biggest part of it.

I got complacent again and I’ve been wishing I could “ease up” so to speak with my constant vigilance. Maybe in a year…….I need to be patient.

I’ve bent your ear enough so have a great evening folks and talk to you tomorrow.

I have picked an AA meeting I would like to attend tomorrow evening. It's a young people's group. (I'm 33, not sure if that applies to me really...) but I think this could be a good way for me to start building more community for myself. I like being alone but I like it a little too much. I haven't been very productive in my solitude lately, it's time to challenge myself a little bit. It's going to be hard but it can't kill me

FWIW i have been a handful of AA meetings.
I really enjoyed being with others that understood. I think its good you found a group in your age range. There is many AA meeting groups so you can always check out a different one. Some people are really opionated about aa being like a cult. Just go in with an open mind.

I think its good to.have a sponsor. Someone you can call 24 hours if you feel like drinking.
Also i was surprised how mamy people in there 20-30s were in AA already also. It helped make me feel more comfortable with people in my age range.

Hello Julyers,

I hope you've all had a good start to the weekend.

Angd- That's great news! All of it. You don't have the big C, you have been recognized by (your peers?) many for your hard work, and your son is doing well. *So* happy for you.

Upwardspiral- Young people's group at AA sounds like a very good idea. I haven't done AA myself, but have nothing but good feelings for it. Take what you want and leave the rest, as they say.

About AA: I was recently reading a blog on some news site. A woman was writing about how she and her partner had recently moved from the east to west coast. They were having a hard time meeting potential friends. She described looking outside and seeing a group of AAers having brunch at a Mexican place across the street. She thought wistfully "If only we were alcoholics..." So yeah, "Sober is the new black."

Off to yoga soon. I need a lot of practice in living in the moment.

Hello everyone, sorry for not being around so much. Still not drank. Think I'm on day 11 or something now (must check! :-) )

AngD - so glad to hear you are ok - ish! I too have problems in that area and will be having blood work in the next couple of weeks. Nothing to suggest it is the big C, hopefully just dietary etc. Anyway, congrats on the good news!

BBF - Good on you for coming straight back after the slip. I did something very similar that restarted my run, but after checking back in here the day after, I've kept on the straight and narrow. Best of luck with getting back on track.

Everybody else - sorry I haven't had a real chance to look over your posts. I've been a bit under the weather physically here, and with my daughter and work I've just not had time to keep up with things. Fortunately, my last foray with the booze put it back on the naughty chair, and I've no intention of letting it back off. Hopefully everyone here is managing in a similar vein.

Best of luck for the week ahead. I'll try and keep tabs on the page, but I'm always here with you in spirit, if not in person.

Much love x

Hi all :-)

I've come up with a good idea. I'm going to write a list of questions that I have to read and answer out loud to myself anytime I feel tempted to drink.

E.g. "Do I want to set a bad example to my son?"
"Do I want to feel hungover with no energy tomorrow?"
"Do I want to do further damage to my liver"
"Do I want to 'check out' and not be there for my partner?"
"Do I want to feel down on myself tomorrow?"

Etc.....I feel hopeful this may be an effective measure. Part of my new planning skills!

Good evening all. Had a good day today with no cravings or AV. I'm focusing on planning the period from 4pm to 7pm very carefully each morning. Another very good running day where my knee felt great and thankfully had no urge to "celebrate". Funny, the word "celebrate" is an oxymoron to me. Drinking poison for a good outcome does not make a lot of sense.

Good night and early eve.

Sigh just a drop by. So that I can think, "Oh, I'm in the July thread and it's September, I didn't drink away the last 8 weeks".

Eh.

Morning all.

Day 53 today.

I'm just about to head off for Sunday lunch so a quick check in.

For once on a Sunday um not worried about going to work tomorrow. I'm so used to being hungover on a Sunday and then just carrying on drinking throughout the day. Looking back, it was such a miserable existence. I certainly wouldn't have been socialising with my family back then.

It's a beautiful, sunny day here and I am grateful to be sober.

Gah! Well I didn't expect to be doing this again any time soon.

Had to take my daughter to the hospital last night after she started to choke and wasn't breathing properly for about half an hour. Today she's absolutely fine, and she was by the time we got home last night too, but once we got her home and settled I drank two beers. There was me trying to convince myself that it was just to calm myself down. I threw the other two that came in the pack away so that I didn't kickstart anything even worse.

Annoyed at myself for being weak when I should have been trying to be even stronger. Annoyed for not just coming here and keeping my focus. In the scheme of things I'm just delighted that my daughter is fine, but I should have stepped up and kept my head

Thanks, TS. I shouldn't have bought them in the first place though. Was a dumb thing to do. I hate that I've had to mentally restart all over again. NOTHING should have made me drink.
