Hi Vanaprastha - I was on Day 18 when I went to a concert with my husband, sister and brother-in-law. I fell for the AV that said "you've done so well, one or two drinks won't hurt you!" I ended up having four - five glasses of wine plus three of those stadium large beers and could barely walk back to the car. I don't have an "off" switch once I start. A recon trip to the doctor to ask for help is what helped kick start me this time to really get serious and recognize my triggers. Also, to always have a plan! Thanks for asking...hope you're having a great weekend!

Here's my boys.

They're not usually that polite and calm. They're just waiting for a treat.

Things are going well here. Ended up having 4 cans of beer last night, so am going to see if I can go at least a full week without a single drink now. I want to try to continuously lengthen the periods of sobriety until I finally quit for good.

It's going good though. I'm staying very mindful of the slippery slope I'm on, and I know full well I'm playing with fire. However, I also know from past experience if I put myself under that psychological stress of "I'm an alcoholic, never again a drink, etc.", I'll just snap and grab a bottle of whiskey, and off to the races I go. That's 100 times worse than a few beers once or twice a week.

Anyway, hope everything is doing well. Back to work for me.

If you're going to challenge yourself, why not aim for a decent challenge Troy - a month?

Here at 2am at the vacation resort. Its strange to not be drunk and see the parents of children pouring drinks back by the ton. Of course drinks are outrageously priced so it's double crazy to the alcoholic mind that drinks for "bang for the buck" like I've become. I saw the vodka bottles on the multiple bars shelves from WAY far off. I started this weekend Friday, with the usual self defeat, but poured it out. I'm hurting a lot from water slides beating me up, and ibuprofen isn't doing it for me. Ouch !
I've been doing 3 day weekend binges for months now and although this is a staggering halfhearted victory, at least I've gone on a vacation and not had any booze incidents, that would normally occur. I also see that I'm reflecting and noticing that I never post before I drink. I don't even think I think about posting. This support gift I've been given, I don't use except to post and beat myself up about being a failure at staying abstinent.
Oh I've come a long long way, and actually got another good lab blood test back. I was drinking myself to death and it showed. I forget that part.
I've got to beat this first week falloff. It's so bad to live in detox pains repeatedly. Mental anguish and ups/downs are the horrible norm, unfortunately.
Thanks for the ear.
Sober on sat night /Sunday morning....
Almost amazing !

They are such handsome boys Troy. I won't give you any speeches you are well aware how easily this could go wrong. I don't think of forever I think of today. Whenever I do fancy a drink I remember it really does dull pleasure and make pain harder to bare.

Your doing great JL keep it up.

So good to see so many moving forward. hugs to all.

Having an extremely hard time. I am literally counting down the hours until the stores open so I can buy some wine. This alcoholic narcissist man recently came back into my life (over the phone and via video chat as we live in separate states). He recently went through a very traumatic crisis and I held his hand, talked him off the ledge, listened to his drunken drivel for hours and days through it all, thus losing precious sleep, my sanity and my pride. Sure enough just as he was all better, bam! He went back back to his emotionally abusive caustic self and then suddenly bolted. Disappeared, won't answer his phone, won't respond to my emails. The guy is in his forties. I can't believe I let him to do this to me AGAIN. I am shaking I am so angry and there is nothing I can do.

Thanks DD. I am already on the other path, in the process of making a huge meal for myself and I'm sure I'll feel differently by the time I wake up. But the seed has been planted, I just hope it doesn't sprout by tomorrow. It is going to take alot of will power not to ring him kicking and screaming (he's done this before and his disappearance is nothing major but usually just another woman after getting 'bored' of me). This is going to take weeks to get over. He did sonething similar four years ago and he's about to turn 45. I should have known better.

Morning time here. Really bad night sleep wise. Up for hours with one of the kids. So tired and I'm pretty run down. STILL not well with sinuses. Suffering pretty bad with headaches. Have a horrible ulcer on my gum making it hard to eat. I could do with a few good night's sleep.
Drank plenty of coffee this morning but not working.
I have had no actual challenges yet with drinking. No nights out or events. It worries me how I will handle such challenges.
Day 16 now.

Oh something I meant to ask. How do people feel when they see people drinking on tv/movies? I get a little pang sometimes if I see someone pour wine and think not fair. Everyone can do it but me. Or I imagine how it would taste. Does this stop after time I wonder?

It doesn't bother me at all anymore, it did though.

I sometimes wish that I could be one of those guys who could sit down and enjoy a glass of high end bourbon, or sometime it makes me sad that if I ever do get married, I won't be able to sit down and have a glass of wine with my wife.

But, I have learned to accept that being sober is a part of who I am, and and wonderful part at that.

Definitely DD. Facebook is particularly bad. Lots of updates of people having a drink. Nights out. I'm also in a couple of groups and there is do much " need to open some wine " etc. It is so widely accepted. But what I keep having to remind myself of is all these people probably do have one or two and leave it there. I don't do that. So its not the same situation.
