In for 24. Headed to lunch with a girlfriend and she just text me she needs some adult beverages . Ughhhhh I hate this! Can't back out now but I could use some encouragement

Alynn--first off, you can back out if necessary. Putting your own recovery first is always an option. But it's ok if you choose to go to the lunch. Just remember that you don't drink anymore. No matter what. Keep your phone close and don't be afraid to a) run on here and ask for help/vent if necessary, or b) cut the lunch short if you need to. Like I said, put your own recovery first--drinks at lunch on a Thursday usually don't lead to wonderful Thursday evenings.

Thank you! Ok went to lunch but I knew this was my opportunity to tell her about my struggles. She felt bad for the one margarita she had. She was very glad I told her. I wasn't tempted to drink and just didn't want those thoughts of pitying myself for not ever being able to again. She actually opened up about her and her husbands bad drinking habits. It was ok in the end. (Her drink was full of fruit flies). lol she realized and had it switched but it was a nice sign to me that I was doing right thing
