Marcher, that was the very sweetest thing to say, thank you!! Wow I never look forward to winter, but now I kinda am.

Sassy, glad the sleep is a little better. So cool you and gilmer are going to meet up!!

Toots, glad you are back safe and sound. Yeah it was really feeling fall-y in North Yorkshire too. Se of the leaves were even starting to change. Then we flew back to 92 degrees!

Well I'm back in the swing of things. Got a big work event I'm gearing up for. We looked at what might be the perfect house last night. Quiet street, woods, perfect kitchen. They a e the same taste as us, we wouldn't change a thing. They even alphabetized their spices like me! Price is high end of our range but totally doable. The catch? It's almost as far from work as j's house! I'm waffling between being firm on not doing that to myself and feeling bad and saying I'll suck it up. Looks like I need to pray on it.

Marcher, I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do about school. I haven't enjoyed anything anywhere near as much as I enjoyed the first class. I figure I'll at least finish the two Old Testament classes I've got left, then reevaluate.

We, no house ticks all the boxes, there is always something that isn't quite as you would have it. I guess you need to prioritise your needs and if the house itself is worth the commute I'd say go for it. If you decide to wait for something nearer, I'm sure it will happen as it is meant. There is always some compromise with buying a house, but I feel you need to be happy that the compromise you make is what you can be happy with long term.

Gilmer, Sass I will be with you both in spirit that day my friends, and wishing I could fate rash your meet.

Budd, shame you won't get to see the turtle again, but you have plenty else to look forward to. Don't worry about the bowling alleys plans - or lack of, - as of 30 September, it is no longer your problem, don't have a second of guilt. If they were better at their job, you would be working the hours you wanted and would not now be leaving. This is their situation to deal with. Leave with a clear conscience.

Marcher, I envy you coming into your summer months, it has been pretty drench here since we arrived back.

Hubby has a long weekend off at the start of October, so I have just booked a few days for us in Fort William on the west coast. It is the home of Ben Nevis ( no not a person you ignoramuses, -Britains highest mountain-
Of course, this time we are packing Molly too so lots of wet and windy walks. ( the scenery is fantastic - the weather not so much! )

Have a great weekend Marchers all

I hope you have a wonderful time on your weekend away, Toots.

I had a weekend away this weekend--the church ladies' retreat, as I mentioned--and it turned out excellent! I think it far exceeded everyone's expectations, and I know it exceeded mine!

I had planned for it and prayed for it--but at the same time, I was really dreading it. I have never really enjoyed being a community group leader; I would have stepped down long ago if it weren't for the fact that it is one of the most important things in my husband's life. He is very good at connecting with people and speaking into their lives in an intelligent way--me, not so much. I'm actually pretty cold.

I dread when the doorbell rings on Community Group nights! I am very awkward at preliminary chit-chat. My relationship with the ladies had never been very deep.

But once I finally propelled my butt out of the door, I shopped for excellent food for morning, noon, and night. I gave careful thought to which were the best carbonated beverages to buy! My daughter had cleaned the place earlier in the week, so it was inviting.

As each lady came in, she was so excited to be there! It felt like a B & B, and like they were on vacation! My itinerary turned out very good: there was structure to give them a point for being there, but there was also plenty of time to talk and bond. We all got along very well (at first one lady got on my nerves: she was "helping" me cook and was a total backseat driver--and I was messing up, and she was right on top of me witnessing it. But after dinner I got over it and all was well).

Even the four babies were exceptionally happy and good, and smiled a lot and played with one another.

My daughter selected an excellent book excerpt about suffering being the crucible of love. The only big bomb was my guitar playing. You'd never know I had practiced for a month! I totally choked! But the ladies didn't care--they enjoyed singing, anyway, and nobody shifted uncomfortably in their seats!

I really gave of my very best as I prepared the cold cut and veggie trays for lunch. I cut and rolled everything up with a great deal of care, and I felt no pressure: I was doing it to give to the ladies with every fiber of my being.

Dinner was made by four of the other guests, and it was great.

They helped me clean up, and they just now all packed and went home.

I'm really beat, so I'll go to bed in a few minutes.

But I was amazed how much I found myself emotionally invested in these ladies I had just a couple days ago been utterly indifferent to.

The lesson really affected me in an area where I really need to be affected. And I learned again that when you lay down your life for people--regardless of how you feel--you begin to actually care. "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Hmm--one other thing I forgot to mention, but I feel compelled to. (I actually forgot about it till now). I cooked shrimp scampi last night, and the sauce contains, butter, lemon, garlic, and white wine. I am not triggered by cooking with or eating wine in food.

But usually my husband buys the bottle, opens it, and even measures it out for me--then he dumps it. This time I bought the bottle, and poured it into the measuring cup. I saved the rest till dinner was actually served: then I put out my good wine glasses and served it to three of the ladies (one of them finished off the bottle).

I felt indifferent to the wine for myself, and felt genuine joy at being able to offer something that brought the ladies joy. No conscience pangs.

But for some reason I felt the need to check in about it with you guys!

I don't plan to do this often--I had to do a non-meat dish for a vegetarian in the group, so I thought shrimp scampi would be a nice solution.

It is only rarely that I use wine for cooking--but I will go back to the safe method of letting my husband handle it for me. It's just that he wasn't around this time.

Gilmer, I hate being watched over and 'advised' it always makes me make mistakes, I am glad you were able to let go your irritation at that particular lady, when a beginning like that could have. Made you feel antagonistic towards her all weekend. As for your guitar playing, I'm sure only you heard your mistakes!

Well done on the wine thing too, sounds like a natural progression to me, I notice hubby's open wine bottles these days only in a 'oh he's not got much left there' or ' I'd better out that in the fridge' way. I am indifferent to its contents. Sounds like you are at that stage too. I guess feeling the need to mention it is to get reassurance that you are not risking anything. And I don't get the feeling that you were messing with temptation so much as being aware of it s potential.
I am glad you enjoyed yourself so much.

Hi Marchers, it's the wrong time of day for me to check in but here I am.

Gilmer I cook with wine too, I think I mentioned it a while back? I'm not triggered by doing so and can serve wine to guests no problem, I just like to cook certain things the way they are meant to be. If I was tempted in any way I would ditch it.

I'm checking in at this unusual time for me because I need to simply say something that is on my mind, I was ok all day long but now that it's dark I'm a bit ... anxious.

When I was having a shower this morning I found a lump which made me stop and check again, and again. Definitely some sort of lump. I know full well that it may mean nothing, it could be a cyst, it could be fibrous tissue, it could be anything, but it was scary. After what happened after my car accident six weeks ago I don't want to say anything to Mr Marcher just yet, my closest friend is watching her older brother die from bowel cancer so at the moment I am keeping this to myself except for you dear peeps.

I have not written myself off and I'm sure I will be fine but I just needed to get it out. I'm two months overdue for my regular mammogram which I will fix tomorrow morning by phoning at 9am, I feel fine and I'm sure I am. My Dad and his family were predisposed to all sorts of cysts so that's likely what it is but my maternal grandmother died from breast cancer when I was seven so, you know, it's always in the background. But that was 1962.

Just putting this "out there" to all of you has calmed me. Yes, I will do all the right things, it was the keeping it in all day that was hard.

Marcher, positive thoughts can't hurt, regardless. Let's call it harmless until disproven.

Marcher, sending positive thoughts your way.

Gilmer, congrats on pulling off what sounds to have been a great retreat for you and the ladies.

Just got finished with my final Special Olympics Training, After they finished giving out the awards to the athletes the head of the area Special Olympics called me up to the front and gave me a special plaque for my help the last 10 years and had all the athletes come up and thank me. I think when I get up to Tennessee I will look their group up and see if I can help them.

I am sending my satellite receiver up north tomorrow, so I guess it's time to get busy with final preparations, no more TV slowing me down.

My landlord came by yesterday to show the place to someone, she let Jezabel out, then the little imp refused to go back inside, no matter what my landlord tried Jezz wasn't having any of it. I had to leave work for 10 minutes just to get her in the house.

I also offered the new tenant to make an offer on anything she will need, I was able to sell her all my furniture and my washer and dryer. I gave her a great price just so I dont have to move it around anymore.

Yesterday on Facebook I also saw that an old bowling friend from Chicago is living within 10 minutes of my night in Greenville SC so I'm hoping we can meet up and catch up on the last 25 years or so since I last bowled with him.

Hope everyone is enjoying the day!
